Shopjacket
What do we do? We have a selection of shops to choose from, depending upon what your area really needs. What makes Shopjacket special is our attention to detail.
Local authorities, shopping centres and landlords are discovering how image dressing and consultancy from Shopjacket can help the regeneration of declining retail environments - improving the appearance of empty shops and attracting new tenants. We help your high street by offering the following services:

This is an interesting read - with surprisingly few ex-Woolworths stores vacant and in need of a Shopjacket treatment, a decade after their closure.
" - Ten Years On: What Has Become of Woolworths’ Former Stores?"
Download our fascinating research report by Graham Soult as a free PDF at https://www.cannyinsights.com/2018/12/31/nine-out-of-ten-ex-woolworths-sites-remain-in-active-retail-use-a-decade-after-closure/, ten years after Woolworths' final stores disappeared from the high street on 6 January 2009.
Part of us is sad to see our vinyl being ripped off the windows of this property in , but we're pleased to see it reopening as a shop after several years vacant!
Merry Christmas everyone! We hope you all have a lovely day 🎄
This is a constructive piece at Essex Live, not just moaning about empty shops in but coming up with plausible suggestions of what they could become.
None look terrible, but there's certainly room to brighten up some of those blank frontages in an effort to secure new lettings and reduce the negative impact on the street scene.

How do you solve a problem like the 13 empty shops in Chelmsford right now? Some of the empty units are huge
We're in the Midlands today, where this Sutton in Ashfield shop is just the kind of unit that would benefit from a Shopjacket treatment - reducing blight, and helping secure a new occupant.
That aside, how *do* they always get those circus posters up inside empty shops? 🤔
See, it's not all gloom and doom on the high street! Lovely in has welcomed a host of new retailers to its town centre before Christmas, with at least one other business on the way https://www.timesandstar.co.uk/news/17299700.cockermouth-welcomes-three-new-businesses/
Town welcomes three new businesses THREE new businesses have started up in Cockermouth town centre, a pub has reopened and plans have been submitted for another new enterprise -…
We love it when our Shopjackets get removed quickly, when a property that we've dressed is let and reoccupied - but we make sure the quality is robust enough for them to last much longer if needed. This one in still looks in tip-top condition!
Here's another before and after, this time featuring a new Shopjacket that we installed on a prominent vacant shop in Market Place last week, working with Hambleton District Council and the letting agents GVA.
As ever, it's not just a case of applying our Shopjacket to the building as it is - the whole frontage has been given a clean and tidy first, to make the maximum positive impact.
Fingers crossed that the eye-catching new look and accompanying marketing campaign gets this important unit let!
sounds like it's doing the right things this Christmas, with festive events, promoting more mixed uses, and an active BID in Make it Bournemouth. But it's right to also highlight the negative impact that empty units like the one pictured can cause, and, where possible, to encourage the property owner to address the problem.
https://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/news/17289383.empty-shops-in-bournemouth/
"Desolation boulevard": What is the solution to Bournemouth's empty shop units? IT's a strange mix of circumstances. Or is it?
Our Shopjackets don't just improve the appearance of empty shops - we know that they help secure new occupants for vacant premises, too.
One of our favourite examples is from High Street, back in 2014.
Before we got involved, the property had been empty for three years, with no enquiries at all.
But after our Shopjacket treatment was applied, there were 27 enquiries and the property was let within three months.
Now that's what you call a turnaround!
Thanks to Phil Pinder on Twitter for highlighting Indie York - a website and printed map that showcases and locates independent shops and other businesses in . A great idea! https://www.indieyork.co.uk/
This is a worthwhile read by Sarah Todd in the Yorkshire Post. She's quite right to highlight that for many places, like , retail parks are as much of a threat to the high street - or even more of a threat - than online shopping.
https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/opinion/sarah-todd-how-out-of-town-retail-parks-are-turning-york-into-a-ghost-town-and-why-the-rest-of-the-high-street-should-be-worried-1-9482873
Sarah Todd: How out-of-town retail parks are turning York into a ghost town – and why the rest of the high street should be worried RETAIL giants have this week been blaming the internet for the demise of the high street.
Last month we spent some time at the busy Crossgates Shopping Centre in , where we were delighted to install the first of several Shopjackets in the mall.
With 60 shops, cafes and restaurants, the Crossgates centre has been an important community hub on the east side of Leeds for the last half century.
Featuring distinctive local independents alongside big names like Wilko, Iceland and Home Bargains, Crossgates remains a popular retail centre, with few voids. Nevertheless, like any UK shopping mall, there is always an element of retailers coming and going.
This small unit is in a good spot next to Peacocks, but looked unappealing with its dark interior and old fascia still in place.
Applying our eye-catching graphics to the door and windows has given the unit an immediate lift, while a new mock-fascia, with a clear call to action, makes it easy for potential occupants to take the next step.
What looked like a shop that someone had just vacated now looks like a shop that is ready to be occupied again.
If you think *your* business could trade from this location, contact the Crossgates centre management or the letting agent Rawstron Johnson for more information.
Looks like a case for Shopjacket here! A town can have much to offer, and push that with positive messages, but it's undermined if inaction by a few property owners blights the streetscape. Always happy to chat, Barrow in Furness Borough Council and Barrow BID!

Celebrities told to stop slating town Councillors say Barrow is "wonderful" and they are "fed up" with it being criticised.
Some interesting observations and quotes about town centre in this recent Newcastle Chronicle article. Good points about the need to offer variety, tackle empty shops, and give customers what they can't get online https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/life-in-wallsend-town-centre-15466004
Too many takeaways? - traders on life in Wallsend town centre We took a trip down Wallsend High Street and spoke to people about the town centre and what it has to offer - this is what they told us
Another empty shop as M&S shuts its store in tomorrow. Retailers like Boyes have snapped up former M&S sites in the North and Midlands, but the first task is to keep the building clean and tidy to minimise the negative impact on its neighbours https://www.eadt.co.uk/business/empty-retail-premises-in-clacton-on-sea-1-5793139
As one flagship Marks and Spencer store moves out, what next for the empty town centre retail space? On Tuesday, a town centre will lose its biggest store and it is unknown what, if anything, will ever move in in its place.
Do you remember that letter we shared earlier this week, where a West Sussex County Times reader (https://www.wscountytimes.co.uk/news/your-say/empty-shops-drag-area-down-in-horsham-1-8707093) had complained about the blighting effect of an empty shop in Queen Street, ?
To make the point about how simple it can be to address that negative impact on the surrounding area, we've quickly mocked up a Shopjacket to demonstrate what can be achieved with some quality graphics, a bit of a clean-up, and a positive call to action.
Imagine if that treatment were implemented, just how much more appealing would this unit be to a potential new occupant?
This reader is right to say "I cannot believe a landlord can let a property get into such a state - no wonder no-one wants to rent it!"
After a decade of creating our Shopjackets, we know that a cared-for property, with a strong call to action to potential occupants, prevents blight and is more likely to be let.

Empty shops drag area down in Horsham I have submitted a picture of a shop in Queen Street, Horsham, that has been empty for as long as I can remember.
This is an interesting situation in . We can't recall seeing a shop with "Closing Down... Subject to Landlord Negotiation" posters before. A sign of the times, as retailers warn they'll exit unless landlords are prepared to be flexible? https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton/peacocks-closure-uttoxeter-2236736
Major clothes shop looks set to close, 'subject to landlord negotiation' Shoppers say closure would be a huge loss to town centre
This is worth a listen! We can all point out what is wrong about our high streets, but it's refreshing to hear a group of local traders and influencers highlighting the positives of their town and talking constructively about what they can to do to celebrate and enhance those strengths.
