The first 2022 winter lecture was a stellar success. Thanks all for supporting the club and giving so generously to The National Park Mountain Rescue. Andy’s talk was fantastic full of anecdote, incredible images and laughter. Afterwards Andy spoke of his work as patron of the Jonathan Conville Memorial Trust who provide subsidised courses for 18-30yr olds to get into the mountains. Please look them up!
County Climber Autumn 2022 🍁 -
Anna Taylor, renowned hard trad soloist will be speaking at the Brinkburn Brewery as part of our Winter Lecture series. We wanted a focus on professional women climbers who are currently making a name for themselves and successfully carving out a niche in what is still a male dominated world. Anna will talk about her route into climbing and what inspires her to do hard solo ascents and go on expeditions to break new ground and explore. Recently she has completed an epic home grown challenge to cycle, walk and run over 2000km while climbing all the routes in the boom Mountain Rock. Join us to meet Anna and hear the stories behind the headlines. Why not combine with a climb across the road and some lovely food at the venue. All for free! Donations to the regional Mountain Rescue teams.

This International Women's Day we're remembering all the incredible women who helped found the NMC! The fact that these women were founding members of our climbing club more than 75 years ago, in a sport that, like many others, still suffers from under-representation of women - is a source of constant awe and inspiration for me.
Unfortunately the remaining founding members of the NMC passed away in 2019. Why not find out more about these inspiring women of the NMC by reading our article with Joan and Muriel here: stories.thenmc.org.uk/muriel-and-joan or our remembrances of Peggie, Lily and Muriel's in the Winter 2019 edition of County Climber: www.thenmc.org.uk/CountyClimber/
Thank you to all the amazing women in the NMC and further afield - keep climbing!
Ciara, NMC President
