I used to spend so long experimenting with makeup, in an attempt to make my eyes look more rounded. I truly thought that if I could I would be more beautiful. I refused to embrace my Asian heritage and I cultivated skill sets to morph my facial features into those of a different race. Into the shape of the eyes of the girls that I thought got more attention, into the images of the women I would see in magazine articles or on the screens in movie theatres. I was stuck in a cycle of wasting time and energy to earn my beauty, and in turn damaging my soul even more, instead of getting to know and embracing the design and inherent beauty I had been made with.
Nearly a decade later and a lot has changed. I’ve worked through the past pains and hurts of my life experience, and I am now wildly in love with all of my features, and also my heritage. Competition and pride has laid down to a realisation of the sacredness of diversity in each and every human, including myself. My inner critic lost its power as the voice of the Creator took His place.
We’re all invited onto a journey of understanding and experiencing love of how we have been made. Competition should never be given the loudest voice, don’t let it steal the joy you were made for. I hope today you tune in to the voice of Love, loving yourself and loving others equally. I’ve discovered that it is the most powerful thing we have on this earth.
