We are supporting a brilliant project as part of 'WARM' by Create North and looking for 12 individuals to take part! Lead by recently relocated Ukrainian artists, project participants will work alongside Ukrainian dancers to learn a brief choreographic sequence, which will be expertly captured by Ukrainian photographers and filmmakers as the body interprets and articulates movement, emotion, and the joy of self-expression amid North East backdrops.

Move: In Progress (Newcastle, 2024) | Images of Eve Walker's work-in-development "For Steve"
PERFORMER: Eve Walker
MUSICIAN: Fin Hewitswan
ABOUT THE WORK: An improvisation between Musician and Dancer influenced by the work of Steve Paxton and the principles of Contact Improvisation. Through ongoing collaboration with NE Musician Fin, Eve has been exploring ideas of how two art forms can improvise simultaneously in the context of one piece of work. We are asking questions rooted in Contact improvisation principles: When are we in contact? How are we in contact? Is the physical the only form of contact? The work offers opportunities to delve into these questions and unpick these principles in real time.

PERFORMER: Lila Naruse
ABOUT THE WORK: This research is predominantly discovered and led by following the body’s curiosities and finding liberation through movement. It is inspired by the notion of giving freedom in order to receive freedom. This solo explores some ideas which will be re-envisaged to create into a duet, touching on themes of women’s strength.

PERFORMER: Sarah Dobbs
ABOUT THE WORK: This piece is a semi-autobiographical exploration of ‘journeys’ on an aerial spiral. It incorporates conversations with Sarah's mother, the daughter of a Chinese immigrant, her curious embarrassment of her own history, as well as projected imagery and lighting that lends a different perspective to work on the spiral.

PERFORMERS: Orla Hardie and Daisy Dancer
ABOUT THE WORK: Building on research from previous work ‘SKUMO’, Orla and Daisy continue to explore the contrast between humour and the uncanny through new characters…the LoonHeads. The LoonHeads are a mysterious yet comedic characters. Although disturbingly striking in appearance, they are strangely loveable. And what they lack in human appearance they make up for in tangible human qualities.
