What happened in parliament on Tuesday is a disgrace to this country! Labour the party of social democracy voted to keep a Tory austerity policy that affects 1.6M children in the UK

if you voted for Labour in the last election - hold them to account

below is a letter sent tonight to my local MP Alan Campbell for Tynemouth

SUBJECT: Party before country - party before North Tyneside

Dear Alan,

Sadly I have not heard from you since my last email on 5 July even though I know you get funding to support a staff of administrators – could you not have sent me an acknowledgement?

Labour’s ideology is apparently social democracy – but the vote that took place on Tuesday was despicable: the two child benefit cap was introduced by a Tory government in 2017, why will Labour not abolish this disgusting austerity measure? It currently affects 1.6M children in the UK.

One of Labour’s 5 stated missions on your website is to “break down barriers to opportunity” – lifting the 2 child ban would take 300k children out of poverty & certainly address immediate barriers to opportunity.

The Resolution Foundation thinktank says the number of families affected by the policy has increased from 70,000 to 450,000 in the past six years & that a third of its impact is yet to come.
The Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) says the two-child limit can cost households up to £3,455 a year – a massive hit to family budgets. Child poverty is at its highest ever level, & Labour says it has “an ambitious strategy” for reducing it. What is the ambitious strategy??
No other single measure the government could take would be as cost-effective in reducing the number of children living below the breadline.

King Charles has just been given a pay rise to the tune of £45M
Why are Labour supporting the rich getting richer?

The 2 child ban would cost £1.7bn this is a tiny sum in the context of a £2.7tn economy, and there are plenty of ways the chancellor, Rachel Reeves, could find it without any difficulty. As the tax expert Richard Murphy has shown, taxing capital gains at the same rate as income would net the Treasury £12bn a year. Removing the losses the Bank of England makes on its gilt holdings from the way the government’s debt rule is calculated would raise an estimated £20bn, according to the consultancy Oxford Economics.

I am personally appalled that you voted to maintain such a disgusting measure particularly given your local constituency - North Tyneside is classed as one of the 7 most deprived areas in the North East. North Tyneside 50.6% of homes in deprivation Chirton: 64% of households were deprived in at least one dimension. Given your background in teaching it may be particularly poignant for you to note that according to the Child Poverty Action Group: 9 out of 30 children are living in poverty in the average class of pupils – let that sink in for a minute………
Just as shocking 7 out of 10 children living in poverty have at least one parent in paid work.

I am very keen to hear from you on your justification for such a disgraceful position.

Letter sent to Keir Starmer & a version also sent to Alan Campbell for Tynemouth today following their success at booting the Tories out.

Dear Keir,

First of all congratulations on booting the Tories out.

You mentioned in your speech how you’re a party for all, even those who didn’t vote for you.

I am one of those who didn’t vote for you. Having previously been a member of the Labour party, I resigned because of your failure to stand up for humanity & the disgusting genocide taking place in Gaza.

According to Declassified in Feb 2024 Labour MPs accepted a whopping £280,000 from the Israel Lobby.
Also according to Declassified just 3 days ago – a pro-israel tycoon gave Labour half a million pounds

You said in your speech you will serve all people in this country –
In serving me I request that you call for an immediate ceasefire & halt all ammunition & arms supplies to Israel, further I request that you & the Labour party no longer receive one penny from Israel lobbies or tycoons. As long as you receive such dirty money you are controlled by your funders & not standing for your electorate or making the best decisions for this country.

Be on the right side of history & stand up for humanity. Particularly given your background as a human rights lawyer.

Closer to home: 29% of all UK children are in Poverty that is 350,000
In 2024 surely this has to be a top priority for you – ending the 2 child ban on benefits would be a step towards ending this.
Shockingly 71% of poor children live in working families according to the Child Poverty Action Group

The gap between the rich & the poor MUST be massively reduced. In recent decades the rich get richer & the poor more poverty stricken. If you haven’t already done so I urge you to read the book Vulture Capitalism by Grace Blakeley We MUST stop political parties being funded by other countries or commercial corporations with their own self interests

These are the deal breakers for me & I welcome your response.

Karen

We need to know who is really behind the main parties and whose interests they really serve

26/06/2024

Over recent weeks we’ve met a lot of people at the door & on the street within the Tynemouth constituency - people don’t know who to vote for as Tory & Labour are increasingly inseparable in their policies. Our community is looking for an alternative that is not the usual yo-yo national party politics.
Towing a party line does not represent the needs of local communities!!

Mustaque Rahman from My NT Community Independents is a real alternative voice for our community - Labour MP Alan Campbell has been our representative for 27 years - what’s he done for our community lately?

This is what the Labour party is about these days big business

As Richard Murphy tweeted, “That seems like a near-perfect summary of Keir Starmer's Labour Party - in which the only thing left to indicate its origins is the name.”

Tories and Labour on course for lowest share of the vote since 1945 16/06/2024

This is the major concern of our first past the post system. We are probably going to land up with a majority government which only a fracrion of the population voted for . We need propional representation PR system that truly represents the electorate.

Tories and Labour on course for lowest share of the vote since 1945 Poll reveals historically low support for the big two, with smaller parties up by five points

Refugees are people forced to leave their own country and seek safety in another country. Contrary to what is said in some of the media they make up less than half a percent of the total population of the UK.

None of us knows what may happen to us in the future and as a society we need to help those in need. Events like these show we have more in common than that which divides us

Next week is Refugee Week across the country and as a Council, we're once again showing our support.

On Tuesday 18 June, we'll have an event outside the Working Well Hub, in the Beacon Centre, North Shields, between 10am and 2pm.

It's a completely free event. It'll have activities for children and adults, opportunities to get creative and delicious foods from different cultures!

Pop along on Tuesday and join us!

Labour Deletes ‘The NHS Is Not up for Sale’ From Its Manifesto | Novara Media 13/06/2024

Nye Bevan's vision for the NHS was free health care for all everyone regardless of your status. He had seen first hand what happens when you don't put the health of the nation first and foremost.
Labour will win the next election but at what cost. The leadership have sold their souls for power to corporate interests. We the people must hold them to account. The NHS must be preserved and health must come before wealth.

Labour Deletes ‘The NHS Is Not up for Sale’ From Its Manifesto | Novara Media The party’s 2024 manifesto has removed the clause agreed upon at the last conference. Is soon-to-be health secretary Wes Streeting trying to tell us something? Rivkah Brown reports.
