A first glimpse of what the inside of the bellltower looks like . The steel frame replaced the rotten timber one and two additional bells were added in 1911.

This month we celebrate the life of The Revd. Augustus Morgan
This year is the 150th anniversary of his retirement as the longest-serving Rector of the Parish of Machen. He died on the 5th of September 1875 and now 148 years on, his legacy is largely overlooked. Lower Machen Church is open to visitors every Sunday afternoon in September from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. where a selection of photographs from the Machen Remembered archive is on display.

This time we would be happy to help with any genealogy questions as the registers of baptisms, marriages and burials in the Machen Parish will be on display.

Our friends at OXFORD HOUSE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE SOCIETY (Risca Museum) are doing a MACHEN Walk this Friday 16th of June.

2 mile walk to Machen Forge past Machen Old Pit and brickworks, then on to Machen Viaduct and up the tramroad link to the Rumney Railway which became the B&MR and the 3 bridges over Dranllwyn Lane.

Mostly flat but rough ground around the forge, viaduct and tramroad.

and we are a popular destination for walkers.
We are open to visitors from 2.00 to 5.00 pm on Easter Day and then every Sunday until the end of September.
Bring your smartphone for the best digital experience and find out about our 900-year history and the Morgans of Machen, Ruperra and Tredegar. This important Welsh family are closely associated with the church and many are buried here. Tablets are available for self-guided tours of the building.
You can also research your family tree in the parish records which we now have available going back to 1670.
On selected Sundays, we will be doing history talks and guided tours of the church. These can also be arranged for visitors or groups at other times by emailing [email protected].
