Exhibitions, news, work in progress and shop updates
Gorgeous shimmering fabric - painted with my shimmer paints and then stitched with Madeira rayon thread. Part of this months machine artistry sessions
I’m not mixing the shimmers any more - just ran out of time 😳 But there are some left - I’ve updated the website shop with all that are - look under bespoke paints
We also still have some 100 ml bottles of unbranded jacquard lumiere in the clearance section of the shop.
Once these are all gone - they are gone. It’s all beautiful shimmering/metallic paint xx

A lovely tipped in page in my sketchbook. I just love doing these. This one opens out to 4 x A4 landscape ❤️❤️
This sketchbook is filling up with designs based on another antique quilt in the Quilt Association collection. The Viewpoints group are making lots of new work ready for The Festival of Quilts next year. We have a gallery very close to my stand - so it’s going to be very exciting. We will be taking lots of the design work and sketchbooks too, as I know visitors love to look at these, and understand how the work has evolved from its starting point.
The show is running from 31 July to 3 August in 2025 - so please out those dates in your diary. And come and visit us 😃😃❤️
The joy of these just goes on and on!! Woven, painted papers this time - part of the current session in machine artistry. In October we will be looking what we can do with these, together with our shimmering cling film
This course starts a new run in a couple of months for anyone interested # # #
The machine artistry course isn't all just stitching. Although you can create beuaiful work using just stitch (think thread sketching, or thread painting - both of which are thrioroughly covered too), we also look at lots of ways to create surfaces to then enhance with stitching. One of which is painting and weaving fabrics and paper. These ones are all quite gentle on fabric .. so many possibilities here. I'll also share the ones on paper - much more vibrant I think. Next session we will be looking at ways to take these further with the addition os machine stitching. Totally hapopy things to do.
If you missed the course this time,. it is re-running starting early December. Your deposit payment covers the first 3 months - so if you sign up now, your next payment wont be due untilend of Feb 2025! Heres a link if you are inetrested # # #

Some shimmer and glitz from the latest machine artistry sessions - to perk up what is turning into a very wet Sunday afternoon !! Xx
Is Newport near the sea? Well … yes! This is the view from Bassaleg Dog Walking Field - and that’s England on the other side!! 🐶🐶🐾🐾. 🌊 ❤️❤️
🐶🐶❤️
A few action shots and stills!! Did I say Dylan didn’t get as dirty ?? Wrong !! Both absolutely filthy - they got introduced to the doggy washing area I’m afraid. In the age old tradition of the countryside - I have an old quilt covering the car seat. It’s in the wash too. Happy times 🐶🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️
I suspect they can both hear the other so think they are on to something 😂😂🐾🐾❤️❤️
Bassaleg Dog Walking Field
We are starting to work towards the The Festival of Quilts gallery now - and plan to add a lot of new work to the heritage textiles exhibtion. This is some starter design work inspired by a completely new quilt - an old velvet one. Excited already here !! # # #
Zoomed!! Now chilling out before supper 🐶🐶🐾🐾❤️❤️
We are off to the zoomie zone at Bassaleg Dog Walking Field ❤️ Milo’s brought his gilet incase it rains - Dylan’s brought his favourite cushion to add to the boat 😂😂🐶🐶🐾🐾❤️❤️
The vermicelli kid is at it again😳😳 Weird the effect a couple of operations can have on you 😂❤️
Luckily I haven’t lost these two - which go with the one I was stitching yesterday. So it’s on with them today ❤️
I’ve found photos of these fabrics I was printing with new rubber stamps from my collections, in my demos at the NEC in March. Lots of leaves, pebbles, starfish and seed pods I absolutely love them and really want to make something with them. BUT - I still haven’t found what I did with them 😳😳 Obviously I got them home as I took the photo! But then what? Saw consultant and the world all went c**k eyed for a while. I’ll keep looking 😃
Most of the stamps sold out at the show - but we do have more in stock now if you are interested # # #

I’m starting to create new work with my next exhibition in mind. This piece was laid out a while ago - I think it was a sample for mip 2019 in their final year. I was taking inspiration from some of my collection of mid century fabrics, and using photo transfer paper to move a sketchbook image onto fabric. I also designed a stitching plan using tracing paper which is a really good way of trying out ideas. And it’s made this super easy to pick up a couple of years later to complete. Often I stray away from the plan, but as you can see on the back here - I’m more or less on track so far!! 😃❤️
In my bra this morning : two nectarines, tissue, iPhone and a packet of progesterone pills (plus two bosoms of course) 😳😃 A rare advantage of big b***s 😂😂❤️❤️
Walking in to see this lot makes me very happy. More shimmery stuff for machine artistry ❤️
It’s my first sessions back with the ongoing learning group - and we are starting design work with a new heritage quilt. This has been such a wonderful theme and we would like to add more new work to the Honouring the Past exhibition when it goes to The Festival of Quilts next year.
Ongoing learning does not mean learning loads of new techniques… it means using what we know and further developing it. I’ve loved foam stamps right from the word go, as a great way to explore a new subject. And this is my newly cut stash for our new quilt - a beautiful antique velvet one.
I can’t wait to get playing with these !! # # #
And some fabric printed with the larger versions of the stencils, using the herb garden paint set 🪴❤️
Some sketchbook pages also printed during demos at the NEC show in March. These are using the new herbs and pots stencils, plus some background patterning using my rubber stamps 🪴 ❤️❤️
We are looking at creating surfaces to stitch this week in machine artistry. Starting with some transparent shimmering ones ❤️❤️
Some more fabric from the March show. Another mid century stencil - this time a bowl, filled with happy leaves. The leaf stencil can also be used to create all over patterns (it comes in two sizes) The patterned versions have procion dye or very watered down fabric paint added to colour the background. The latter technique means you don’t have to use dyes at all. Background for the bowl is done with a yellow stencil and a grid patterned stamp.
Fabric paint colours look like turquoise, poppy, pumpkin, lavender, lilac and white. Dyes look like lime and lavender. When I find the cloths I can be certain!! Xx
I don’t know of if I ever shared images of the fabrics I made using new stencils and blocks at the NEC show in the spring,? .. I came back, saw the consultant and then fell off the log for a few months. So I’ll share now just in case, as there are some stonkers. This one uses mid century pot stencils, plus tulip and leaf fillers. Some of the pattern stamps create a sort of interior feel I think.
Now I just need to find what on earth I did with them all!! 😂❤️
