Farewell to Samantha Todd the Liverpool University Veterinary student who has spent the last week working with the poultry and cattle here at Glebe Farm. Wishing her all the best with her studies to become a farm vet.

Our 3 alpacas called Mumford, Popinjay and Lionheart are a visitor favourite. They originally were guards for our hens keeping foxes and other predators away but seem to now also enjoy meet and greet with visitors to Glebe Farm Cottage while still doing their original job. They also love to watch what everyone is doing. Real characters and will soon be getting their fleece shorn for the summer just like sheep.

French guests last week, Danish farm visitors this week and French technicians next week. Good job I can speak the lingo. 🤔🤩

[DISTILLERY TOURS!] With the cold dark days drawing in, a distillery tour is the one activity that is sure to warm you up. Hinch Distillery, just 30 minutes south of Belfast at the Killaney Estate, is offering a choice of two tours (Classic and Premium) for whiskey lovers, plus a ‘Irish Coffee/ Hot Toddy Masterclass’ as well as a Gin School Experience.

While Hinch Distillery Visitor Centre & Cafe is a new distillery on the scene, firing up its stills in 2020 and opening the visitor centre as recently as 2021, it is already winning awards and its gins and whiskeys are exported to more than 35 countries around the world!

The distillery is open Wednesday to Sunday, and bookings are made online. For the designated driver the distillery offers a lower cost ‘Driver's Dram’ ticket, which includes a soft drink at the end of your tour but you get to take home a 50ml sample of Hinch’s Five Year Double Wood Whiskey!

If you are thinking of Christmas, a tour ticket would certainly make a great gift for the whiskey lover in your life. You could also buy a bottle or two of Hinch whiskey/gin at the online store and have yourself your own home whiskey experience!

What’s happening from the 12th September. Can we ask all visitors and competitors to be respectful of estate openings times - only committee and helpers will be permitted entry to Gill Hall Estate on Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th AM. When the gates open to everyone on Tuesday at 12, we will be selling 4 day event admission tickets (for those who have not purchased in advance), in an attempt to reduce queuing times each morning, we will have 3 entry lanes with an express lane for ticket holders. The preferred method is to purchase tickets in advance via ticketSource.co.uk but we will also take cash & card payment at the gate each day. A reminder that ISDS membership does not include entry to the World Trials. Admission charges are: Adults £10 per day or you can purchase a 4 Day pass for £30. 16& under have free admission. Just back from a wonderful week staying with my friend, Norma, at Glebe Farm Cottage. Our hosts, David and Sharon, greeted us warmly with fabulous information about the area and recommendations for shopping and dining out. They checked in a couple of times to ensure we had all we needed whilst working their organic farm.

Looking out at 12,000 little brown hens, 3 horses, 3 alpacas, each with an individual hairstyle, and countless rabbits, was a joy. The surrounding fields held sheep and cows which my young dogs were initially barking at but finally accepting.

The cottage has everything you need for a staycation and is perfectly located for exploring the Kingdom of Mourne and beyond. We covered 520 miles in the week and enjoyed every moment.

We wish David and Sharon continued success hosting their holiday cottage and I can thoroughly recommend it.
