🍁 Clinic update 🍁
Still half a shed, a door.... and a few unwanted spiders 🥴
But exciting things are coming...
• I'm starting a course to become a homepath specialising in fertility 👩🏼🎓 (I'll post more about this soon)
• Rebranding - I'll be focusing on fertility and paediatric appointments in the future 👶
• And on a personal note...baby no.3 is on the way 🤰, so unfortunately I've decided to wait until after this next maternity leave to return to working from home. By that stage the clinic will be fully finished, I'll have finished my course and will be ready to get back to normal 🥳
Finally, sorry to everyone who's been wanting appointments recently and thanks for everyone who's travelled down to ardee!
I'll be continuing to work from Ardee until feb 2024.
We're Moving 📦🏡
Thought it was time I updated you all... as most of you know I'm in the process of moving house (just a tad stressed atm 😅)
I am back from maternity leave, however I'm only working in Ardee until later in the year, when I'll be based just outside bessbrook (New house 🏠).
I'll share some photos of the new clinic soon ... for now its just half a shed but the potential is there! 😂

🥴 Osteoarthritis 🥴
Osteoarthritis is a very common condition, but can be helped by bringing movement back to the joint 🙌.
Osteopathic treatment, involving hands on treatment and exercise, has been proven to reduce pain and improve function 💪. Improving function in the affected joint is important for reducing similar problems elsewhere as a direct result of compensation for the arthritic joint.

🤰 Pelvic girdle pain 😣
Around 1 in 4 women experience PGP in pregnancy. The true cause of it is unknown but it is thought to be caused by a combination of factors; hormone and postural changes, baby's position, traumatic and degenerative issues can all contribute.
Thankfully PGP is treatable, and the sooner treated the better 🙌 Treatment will include education and advice, exercises and hands on treatment. Below are some of the top tips for my patients with PGP.
🌿Self Care Tips:
•Pillow between knees, calves and ankles and one under bump when you are sleeping
•Sit down when getting dressed/ putting on socks and shoes.
•Get out of bed/ car with two feet on the ground and knees together (plastic bag on car seat helps swivel...do not drive sitting on bag, and use door handle as support)
• Avoid sitting with legs crossed and don't sit with your hips below your knees
• Any exercise that causes pain....stop immediately.

😕Joints That Move Too Much 😕

🤸 Hypermobility is a very common problem in people. It is essentially what it says… too much movement.
You'd think that being super flexible is a good thing right?
NO! ...

When your joints have too much flexibility the muscles and ligaments that attach onto them can get tight and you can get pain and clicking of your joints within the socket.
Hypermobility predisposes you to sprains and strains and possible early onset arthritis ☹️

TMJ pain- who has it? 🙋🏽♀️
TMJ disorders (also called temporomandibular disorders, or TMD) can cause many problems ....
😓 Pain in neck, jaw or face
🤯 Headaches
👂 Dizziness, ringing in ears
🦷 Problems chewing or biting
💥 Clicking, popping or grinding in the ears when jaw is moving
🤐 Locking of the jaw

Self care is one of the most under utilised tools we have for maintaining physical, mental and emotional health!
We all need to get better at looking after ourselves 🤗...So here are 5 simple things you can do to improve your self care.
🏃 Regular exercise (30 mins, 3 times a week)
⌚ Schedule time for yourself (once a week)
🧘♀️ Meditation or breathing exercises (once daily)
😴 Get good quality sleep for at least 8 hours/night
📵 Take a break from social media
Remember self care ISN’T selfish!!
🥶 Frozen shoulder 🥶

Frozen shoulder is known clinically as adhesive capsulitis and describes a cascade of stiffening of the shoulder capsule/joint/surrounding musculature.

Frozen shoulder has 3️⃣ phases:
-
1️⃣ Freezing: Gradual onset of pain in the shoulder at rest and sharp pain at end ranges, pain is worse at night and often interrupts sleep, shoulder ROM (range of movement) progressively gets worse. This phase lasts up to 3 - 9 months 😥.

2️⃣ Frozen: Pain starts to reduce, shoulder ROM is significantly reduced in all directions and pain only develops at end ranges. This phase can last from 4 - 12 months 😔.

3️⃣ Thawing: No pain and spontaneous improvement of shoulder ROM returning. It can take 1-3.5 years for full shoulder ROM to return 🤨.

Osteopathy can be beneficial in all phases as it can help speed up return to form and function 🙌.

⚡ Sciatica ⚡
🌿 Pain in the distribution of the sciatic nerve, which typically presents as a clear line of pain down the back of the leg 🦵.
🌿 Sciatica is often caused by an intervertebral disc pressing on or pinching the sciatic nerve... however, there are many other causes.
🌿 Some patients are told that it’s something they “have to live with” and that their only source of pain relief will be medication. Depending on the cause, this may not be the case.

🤦🏼♀️PAIN IN THE NECK🤦🏼
Most common causes of neck pain:
1. Muscle tightness – there are a whole host of muscles that connect to your neck from your upper back. If these get tight they can pull on your neck and cause pain.
2. Sleeping awkwardly – we’ve all done it. We can all sleep a bit funny and as a consequence our mucles can go into spasm in the morning. This can last a few hours to a few days and be excruciating.
3. Whiplash – if you fall, or are in a car accident then the mechanism of the way in which your head can move can cause the muscles to go into spasm and cause pain in the area.
4. Desk workers – if your set up at work isn’t correct, then many people often lean into their screen in order to concentrate or see the screen. By putting your head anteriorly this can increase the pressure through the area and predispose to pain.
5. The Gym – quite often placement of your head when doing barbell work can cause neck pain. E.g back squats or front squats. Watch the position of your head and breath. .

🌿 KNEE PAIN 🦵

So so common! But why?
Our knees take a LOT of pressure through them, our weight should be distributed evenly between both legs to help spread out the load. Just like carrying two bags of shopping instead of one.
.
When there are muscle imbalances eg. really tight hamstrings or quads then this can pull on areas around the joint making it weak or predisposed to injury.
The great thing is, that knees love to react quickly to the correct treatment! And with the correct advice and rehab plan your knees will be ready to take on anything you throw at them. You just have to take the time and be patient...
