I finally got out for a much need walk the other day with Andy, we visited the East Dart falls only for the heavens to open when we got there, although photography wasnt the main goal i did manage to grab a few frames before we decided to make the very wet and soggy walk back.
Great Crested Grebe enjoying an nice early swim in the morning mist.
I'm not often one to shoot black and white, but I thought this old derelict barn was really suited for it.
The European Nightjar is often heard and not seen and are mostly nocturnal. During dawn and dusk you can hear the nightjar's song which is a sustained churring trill and their flight is very graceful. In the daytime they generally rest on branches or low down on the ground in shady areas and are fairly difficult to spot due to their superb bark like camouflage. Today I found this one resting on a branch.
I popped up to this famous tree back in the winter and it was quite sad to see that yet another few branches had come off it, it is almost unrecognisable compared to its glory days.
The Northern Gannet is a beautiful large sea bird and can measure up to a metre in lenght and have a wingspan of up to 6 feet! watching them dive is an experience as they can dive from heights of about 30 metres and they can hit the water at speeds of up to 60mph, they certainly make thud and a splash!
Who doesnt love a cute little Long Tailed Tit!
I spent the day down at the River Plym, a location Ive been meaning to return to for a while. I have been here loads in the past but it was nice to look at it with some fresh eyes
Its always a joy to see the red arrows, even though I have seen them a lot over the years, I still end up rattling loads of photos of them!
'Moggy' makes an entrance at the Teignmouth Airshow 2024
The display aircraft, Typhoon FGR4 ZJ913 is dressed up in her new livery to mark this year’s 80th Anniversary of the historic D-Day landings.
Whilst on the way back to the car after photographing the cuckoos at Emsworthy the other month, I made a quick pit stop to photograph Saddle Tor as the sun started to set
Siskin I took a while ago, I have never been happy with my previous attempts but I finally got a shot I like
The Valley Of Worship.
It's always nice coming to this location when there is a bit of mist about!
The Cuckoo, photographed last month.
Castle Drogo standing aloft the mist on this very pleasant morning.
A few weeks back we passed this very obliging light coloured buzzard. It was happy enough for us to grab a few photos of it!
Away from all the Aurora photographs, here is a shot from the day before when we have a lovely cloud inversion...
I spent just as much time watching the aurora as I did taking photos! This will probably be my last aurora post for a while as im sure you are sick of your feeds being full of photos of it!
As the Northern lights started to fade a bit, we decided it was time to head back as we both Andy and I had work later on that morning and as it was approaching 2am that ment not getting much sleep! However, on the way round to Haytor I noticed a few beams again, we got to this stretch of the road, which I have wanted to photograph for a while but was never happy with the results until of course having the Aurora above the tor!
With the alerts going mentle last night it would of been rude not to pop out and grab a few pics of the Aurora, what nobody expected was just how awesome it was going to be, I decided to pop back to Bowermans with Andy in hope to repeat and improve up on last years shot. Last year the light rays were near the horizon but last night it stretched right over head and more visiable to the naked eye, It was pretty special to see! Round 2 tonight..?
The Worship Of Dreams
You dont often get mist in front of this church on Dartmoor, it usually lies behind it, so as I was driving to this location and seeing the mist surrounding it, I couldnt wait to stop the car and get the camera set up on the tripod. I have been many times over the years and finally got a shot I have wanted for some time!
I have finally got around to producing some test prints after building a new Pc rig. One of the prints was of this Buzzard printed at 15x10 inches and everything looks spot on which is great! If you would like to purchase any prints or this print, feel free to DM me, my website is currently down at the moment so that will be next job to get up and running soon..!
I popped out to Dartmoor earlier today and grabbed a quick shot of the Willow Warbler.
It wont be long now untill we start hearing these lovely birds in our heathlands
The humble Nuthatch, always a pleasure to see these birds
Tonight's photo is of another tiny bird and generally the loudest song in the woods! The Wren.
The lovely little Firecrest, a member of the Kinglet family and very similar to and often mistaken for a Goldcrest and/or vice versa. The Firecrest call is very distinctive along with it's bronze shoulders and black eye stripe.
Since there has been a single Waxwing found in Exeter, I thought it would be only fitting to post another from earlier in the year when we was treated to 11 of them.
Peek-A-Boo!
The lovely little Goldcrest.
