Then (2014) and now 😲😲😲
I can't believe this was 10 years ago!!

These Mugs are inspired by Egyptian Papyrus, which is still made today using an ancient handmade process, which I had the opportunity to learn about when I was there. I fell in love with the unique texture of papyrus and wanted to apply it to functional ceramics.

These Mugs have been individually handmade using slab building techniques imprinted with the texture of papyrus. The colour of the clay I have chosen relates to the two different colors of papyrus.

This work received funding from University of Atypical’s Deaf, Disabled and Neurodivergent Artist Fund made possible by the National Lottery Arts Council of Northern Ireland funds.

Buy NOW on our website, these are limited edition and won't last long.

PAPER.... in CLAY? 01/02/2023

Our New Blog, please have a wee read and let me know what other ceramic thing you want to know more about!

PAPER.... in CLAY? Why on earth would you put paper into clay? And What even would I use that for? Well let me tell you. (Here is one I made earlier) When you add paper pulp to a clay body, it changes the structure of the clay on a microscopic level, (yup, it's super scientific!) so ... when I add the pulp to the clay...

Alexandra McCalmont - Glazed Earthenware.

Gray Matters

My work has been created to raise awareness of invisible disability and neuro-diversity, sometimes the only way to tell what is going on in someone's life is through MRI scans and investigations. I wanted to visualize this in a 3D MRI like form, that invites the viewer to come closer and investigate for themselves what they think could be the issue or maybe there isn't even one to be found as frequently and frustratingly is the case for neuro-divergents. I have chosen a black glaze with white crystal to use on my brain forms to mimic the MRI imagery of white spots showing on a scan that could mean lesions, tumors or even the presences of Multiple Sclerosis as in my own case

Thank you
For your support.
