Show up day after day. It's not about the fancy sessions or supplements, it's about the daily hard work to get the results that have eluded you before. Thats why many people fail.

When you've got big goals in mind and a structure in place, drop some tasty tests along the way. This allows you to know where you're at and then you can fix things IF they go wrong.

BUT, if you do the above, they go wrong less then they go right. We dropped in the Pennine Journey Ultra in the plan, the Montane Lakeland 50 too, and all came out better than expected. Almost a sub 14 when we had a conservative sub 16 in mind. No need to break things early.

Whats happening on the nutrition front....?

I thought this might be useful to share. Something that I do with every client, probabaly the first thing we do. Whether thats for a Premier league referee, endurance athlete or a weight loss client, create a model for the individual to see what their daily calorific need is. Super simple, nothing fancy but get down to the individuals basic need.

Knowing what you need to eat day to day, whether that is numbers (kcals) or on the table (example menu) can put you in contol of your journey. No guess work, no fads, plain and simple fact.

For me, without this, we're guessing. Opens your eyes, allows me to create a tangible plan for you.

Sports Therapy Appointments in Jesmond.

We are booking up very quickly at the moment as Jon is covering Sophies clinic while she is on maternity leave and as such, time is limited.

We have limited appointments prior to September 19th. Then we will be taking appointments for the 6th November onward.

We have some availability on the following dates;
28/08 pm, 05/09 am, 11/9 pm, 12/9 am, 18/9 pm and 19/9 am.

Am hours are 08:00. 09:00, 10:00 and 11:00.
Pm hours are 14:00, 15:00, 16:00, 17:00.

We're back in business...

Jon is back in clinic post paternity leave and taking on new clients once again. We've been working with our existing clients this last week or so but normal service has now resumed.

A little bit late one this one, but do have a good excuse!

I’ll be on paternity leave for the next few weeks. 🙏

The last few have been manic to get groups ready for pre-season camps, up coming races and generally keeping things spinning so there’ll be no drama while I’m off.

If you’re a new client, I’ll be replying to your emails as I have been this last few days but bookings will be made for mid next week onwards.

This is where the plan really takes hold. Consistency and the ability to set a plan which incorporates the family as a whole. Long term planning and periodisation in your plan, especially with the upcoming Championship and Premier league season, we're almost at pre-season fixtures already!

Diet wise... Nobody wants to be the one sitting at the end of the table eating bland, boring food. It is short lived and becomes the elephant in the room. You can eat well, create an excellent base of health to preform from, WHILE enjoying what you eat, eating to your needs (which we continually set/explain/walk you through), and the family can join in, learn and enjoy it with you.

Food first, but not food only is what we practise. You'd be surprised how little 'pills and powders' you need when you have structure and thought within your meal plan. There is room for those, just when you need them though and not instead of.

Don't wander through it aimlessly, regardless of your needs. I work with weight loss, sedentary patients all the way through to athletes currently at the Euro's as we speak. We all need a healthy lifestyle, regardless of what we may think.

We can increase your sleep, improve and increase daily energy, skin and hair quality, recovery from and readiness to exercise, remove bloating and gastro issues in sport and day to day, and integrate the interventions to hit the above into your lifestyle while enjoying a fantastic meal plan week to week.

I worked with Jon on my nutrition throughout my summer racing months and he taught me skills that will last me a lifetime. I now know how to fuel myself for performance sufficiently during large training blocks and leading up to race day, something that I did struggle with in the past.

Being a researcher interested in lifestyle and nutrition, and someone that has been an athlete since I was very young, I thought that I knew how to fuel to support my training. Little did I know I was under-fuelling.

I am now able to confidently maintain high levels of intensity for longer periods of time in the knowledge that I have filled the tank. I am eternally grateful for the support Jon provides.

TEAM EA......

Monday Motivation.

We've had a little jump in new members this last few weeks but we are ready to welcome a few more. It's been mentioned by a few people recently that they thought you had to be a client in some way, and as such joined other clubs.

Not at all and many on the club aren't clients! We're open to all but we do have a few rules and regs but thats all....

- We have no rules and regs.
- A positive vibe
- No pressure to perform or race
- No really structure - we plan via our WhatsApp group to suit.
- No 3/4 length tights.... Tommy Gun broke this rule last week, 🤷 See attached pic.

Currently, members are racing TT's (we're affiliated to the RTTC), racing on the road, gravel and off-road (Affiliated with BC) and also a few of us are racing BMCR too (40+ vets racing).

A good few of the guys don't race too and just want to be involved. There is no pressure to do so.

We've a growing group of girls too, the plan is to get a regular ride up ASAP too with a view to some racing and generally creating a good vibe on that front.

Finally, possibly THE best looking kit around too(?!) We've a kit order going in soon, so get in touch if you need kit also.....

A Performance Nutrition Program - What actually is it?

It’s been a pleasure to work with Hannah over the past year. The results have been just as I’d hoped but probably surpassed what Hannah thought might have been possible. This is what Hannah had to say of the process.

Age is no barrier……

Neil came to me a good few years ago now. He wanted to slow the decline as he aged, turning 60 was coming and he still wanted to ride and get the most out of himself into retirement.

As we went through his data over the last few years ai though we couldn’t slow the decline, I had a feeling we had more in the tank and a change in his style of training would be fruitful.

Over the last four years we’ve consistently hit power PB’s each season. Training has changed alongside this to allow for more recovery at times. Nutrition has played a part, as has the considered use of supplements at times to give us some free gains.

A few days ago he cleared up on another test climb. 2024 looks to be heading in the right direction once again.

Auguriiii nonnooo!

An absolute banger of a and homemade for a birthday eve dinner. Photo obviously doesn’t come close, but that’s because I took it 😂

A few hours in the making and sourcing, thanks to .farm for the produce, including flour, carrots, onion, eggs, beautiful lamb mince and celery.

The smell coming from each individual ingredient was a joy, you can still source fantastic food if you know where to look.

Washed down with a deep Valpolicella, Fridays don’t come much better than this!

A shame everyone couldn’t be here from around the world but the thoughts are all there 👌👌👌

Hi, thanks for checking out our page ‘The Endurance Academy’ the new rebrand of ‘Bateman Sports Therapy. We're still working away in the background, so expect lots more to come from the site in the future.

So who are we? We are a close knit group of sports scientists and coaches (Jon Bateman & Alan Copland) who work with competitive and recreational athletes of all levels to ensure they surpass their goals. Working across Northern England and Central Italy, we offer a number of services that we feel are integral when supporting you guys.

So what can we offer you? A training program which can include cycling, swimming, running and strength work. A nutritional plan which will assess your current eating habits and help you lose that fat mass while keeping that much wanted lean mass! A top class sports massage service service to keep those aches and pains away, allowing you to stay consistent in your exercise routine. Consistency is key! Finally, our mentoring service.
