🚍 We have some really great news to share…
You can now visit Stanwick Lakes by public transport for the first time, thanks to the newly expanded Village Hopper bus service! With mid-morning and afternoon stops - every Saturday year-round - and daily services during school holidays - it's the perfect time to hop on board and explore the nature and heritage found here.
This brilliant new service has been made possible by the fantastic efforts of Cogenhoe and Whiston Parish Council, with support from North Northamptonshire Council. The team at Stanwick Lakes would like to extend special thanks to all involved for making this happen.
Billie Passchier, Trust Director, says, “We are absolutely delighted that for the first time, people will be able to visit us by bus. It means we’ll now be able to welcome people who may not have been able to visit us before [...] We’d like to thank all those involved who have worked hard to make this bus service happen, allowing improved access and enabling more people to make the most of this special place.”
A consortium of rural parishes will operate the 16-seater minibus service. You can find more details and view the timetable here: www.cogenhoeandwhiston-pc.gov.uk/village-hopper-bus

At long last, the sun has decided to come out! Here are a few ways that may help you stay cool in the heat, and enjoy the sun before it disappears again:
- Try to avoid going out in the sun at midday when it is hottest. If possible, limit outdoor activities to early morning or early evening when temperatures are likely to be cooler.
- Make sure you keep well hydrated. Your brain is 78 per cent water so its performance will quickly be affected by lack of water. Keep a supply of water with you wherever you go.
- Where possible, stay cool in an air-conditioned room or use a fan to keep air circulating.
- Closing curtains and blinds can help to keep a room cool. Keep windows and curtains open early in the morning when the air is cooler. But as the temperature rises, shut doors and windows and close curtains so that the hot air does not heat the air indoors.
- Wear cool, light-coloured clothing that won’t absorb the heat.
- Listen to your own body. If you are feeling weak, dizzy or over-heated, take a break and find somewhere shady to relax. Tell a friend or family member how you are feeling.
- Keep your epilepsy medication in a cool place, out of direct sun and make sure you take as prescribed.
- Cooling off in the pool is always refreshing but remember to follow all the usual precautions – don’t swim alone; swim with a friend or family member; tell the lifeguard you have epilepsy; don’t swim in open water where there is no lifeguard; even a paddling pool can pose a danger if you have epilepsy – always cool off with a friend, never alone.

Driving is an important part of our everyday life and we (Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance (NSRA)) are keen to help to keep mature drivers driving safer for longer.

Our lovely partnership with our friends at Abington Library means that we have a great space to deliver our gardening sessions. Evidence suggests that gardening can help improve our wellbeing in many ways, helping us to relax, reducing stress and anxiety, providing us with a sense of purpose and achievement and boosting self-esteem. Spending time in nature can also be positive for mental health and the physical activity associated with gardening is also beneficial
Just caught a section on BBC Morning Live where they were discussing falls prevention and demonstrating some exercises that can help - just a few of the exercises that feature as part of the Get Up & Go program. We discussed having a commitment to showing up to a group being a great motivator at our session earlier this week, so why not find a group and connect with others to get yourself moving?
Get Up & Go sessions are part of a recognised county-wide falls prevention programme providing strength and balance exercise classes for older adults, those who have a fear of falling, had a fall or are at risk of falling.
Join us and other younger stroke survivors at our twice-monthly virtual meetings on Zoom.
They're held via Zoom and you can get all the information you need about them at
