A couple of weeks ago, I shared the exciting news about launching a new fitness studio in Northampton.

Every Monday, I’m sharing weekly updates on the progress of the fitness studio exclusively with our waiting list.

Our new fitness studio will be at BizSpace KG House, right next to Kings Heath Industrial Estate!
You might be wondering, why only 50 spots? 🤔
Well, our studio will focus on semi-private personal training with personalised nutrition.
This isn’t just another gym where you pop in twice a month and blend into the background.
It’s a place where you’ll be welcomed into a tight-knit community, transform your body, and experience a modern approach to fitness.
For those who know me, you’ll know that BizSpace KG House is where my current 1-2-1 studio is located, where I’ve had the pleasure of working with amazing clients over the past few years.
After a successful few years of building the business, I’m now at the point where I need a bigger space to help even more people get fitter, stronger, healthier, and happier.
Our next step is to rethink our branding, particularly our logo.
That’s why I’m giving our waiting list members the chance to vote on their favourite logo next week...

An online coach calling online coaching a scam? 🤔
This morning, while relaxing in the gym’s whirlpool bath, I overheard a conversation between two women.
“She promised me a personalised nutrition plan, but all I got was a generic meal plan,” one of them complained.
My ears perked up immediately. 👂
The woman continued, saying she signed up with an online coach two weeks ago.
She felt let down because she was given two or three generic meal plans and then left to figure things out on her own.
“I don’t feel I’m getting what I paid for,” she said.
Her friend asked how much she paid.
“Sheepishly, she replied, “£1050 for a three-month block, so it’s £350 per month.”
Her friend’s (and my) jaw dropped in disbelief! 😲
Sadly, this kind of experience isn’t uncommon in the fitness industry. It’s no wonder people are becoming wary of online coaching.
If I paid that amount and received a generic meal plan with no ongoing support or accountability, I’d think online coaching was a scam too!
If all someone needs is a meal plan or a workout routine, they can find those for free with a quick Google search. What people really need help with is the implementation of a plan.
For instance, meal plans can be effective, but often they don’t work on their own.
What if someone is very busy and doesn’t have time to prepare the meals on the plan? They need strategies for efficient meal prep or quick, healthy alternatives.
What if someone has an extremely stressful day and ends up demolishing a whole pack of biscuits for comfort? This requires a compassionate approach and strategies for managing emotional eating.
These challenges require coaching that involves spending time with the client, whether through messages, calls, or in-person sessions. Simply handing someone a PDF and asking them to check in each week is NOT coaching.
Fortunately, there are good coaches out there who provide a hands-on, personalised approach that supports you in achieving the results you deserve. And they won’t charge you an arm and a leg!

Social pressures when eating out 🍔
Finding balance between your health goals and your social life can be a real juggling act for many
Choosing something “healthy” in a world of burgers and fries can make you feel like the odd one out.
Here are three handy tips to help overcome social pressures...
1️⃣ Plan ahead: Check the menu in advance to help you stick true to your choice.
2️⃣ Order first, reducing the pressure and possibly inspiring others to follow your lead.
3️⃣ Prepare responses: Politely say no to dessert if it doesn’t align with your goals. Your approach should reflect your values, not others’.
🤷♂️ If you value indulgence all the time, go for it. But if social pressures are making it tough, these tips can help you navigate.
Save and follow for more practical weight loss advice. 💪

The pressure of social media…
I never thought that being active on social media would cause stress and mental strain
I used to enjoy scrolling the apps, watching silly cat videos and seeing what my friends & family were up to
But the ‘fun’ of social media recently disappeared when I used it to grow my business.
I got busy working with many amazing clients and mentally occupied with the tasks of moving house.
Nothing to complain about by any means
I couldn’t keep up and the longer I’ve gone without posting, the more I’ve noticed the negative effects on my mental health. 🧠
Constantly getting distracted watching endless videos, comparing myself to others in the industry and checking the number of likes and reach
As a ‘content creator’ (I use this term loosely 😂), you honestly spend hours recording content, writing scripts, drafting captions and scheduling posts. All that time spent for some posts to reach 10 fake accounts & to get trolled saying I look older than Eddie Abbew… 👀
It gets pretty demotivating…
In today’s day & age, content is the best it’s ever been. TikTok transitions, filters and AI make it all quite hard to stay trendy (really sounding my age here)
I’m watching other PTs, other coaches, and other nutritionists, post great content daily and it leaves me questioning ‘Why can’t I do that’
Running my own business was the best decision I ever made, but it doesn’t come without strains. You have to learn new skills, some you pick up easily & some you don’t. For me, the powers of social media and everything you need to get a blue tick is not something I am naturally gifted at 🤣
Thinking ahead, I’m going to start getting back into the rhythm of posting but posting more simplified content that I enjoy making, but also valuable to you guys.

I’ve never really been one for long-distance running or endurance events, so taking on the Tough Mudder 10-mile challenge was a whole new ball game for me.
I can honestly say, although it was a tough slog (no surprises there 😂), I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I’m seriously considering making endurance events an annual thing from now on. Who knows, maybe I’ll extend the invitation to clients next time around! 👀🤣
But for the time being, I’m looking forward to getting back into some solid bodybuilding and strength training. Got some fresh goals to smash!

Weekend arrives... Why do you always fall off the wagon?

Having worked with 100's of clients on their nutrition and as someone who personally struggled with staying on track over weekends, the reason for it usually comes down to these three things...
1️⃣ Social Pressures
Weekends often involve social events, parties, or meals out. These are usually accompanied by tempting, indulgent foods & peer pressure to fit in with the norm.
2️⃣ Mindset Shift
If you're working the 9-5 or general corporate life, the weekends are your breaks. It's a time to relax & loosen up. Unfortunately, this mindset shift can spill over into your eating habits.
3️⃣ Lack of structure & more spare time
The weekends usually mean you have a lot more spare time on your hands & the weekday routines go out the window. This makes it easier to eat mindlessly at irregular times.
So how do you tackle this, I hear you ask?
Just like you would likely prep & plan your meals in the week, you should try to do the same at the weekend.
This doesn't need to be perfect, but a rough plan of what meals you will have & ensuring you have the right foods easily available can prevent impulsive mindless choices.
Your mindset goes a long way too. Try adopting what's known as the "dimmer switch" mindset. 💡
Instead of completely turning the switch off & binging everything in sight, you simply turn it down a little. This encourages moderation, leading to you making better food choices.
We also use more specific strategies like our "Reverse Engineer Meal Out" strategy, which is ideal for those who track nutrition quite closely for weight loss purposes but need some flexibility for a meal out with friends & family.

Hi, my name’s Tristan 👋

Then, my knees decided to play up – multiple dislocations (yep grim). By the time I hit 18, I was a tall skinny guy who was a bit lost & low in confidence. However, that's when I found the gym, and it genuinely transformed my life, both physically and mentally.
Outside of work, I'm either in the gym, indulging in food, or playing golf. 🏌️♂️🍔
I'm a foodie at heart, love soaking up the sun, and enjoy the occasional music festival or night out, though recovery isn't as swift as it used to be! 👴🏻

Happy Pancake Day. I wanted to use today to make the point that when making a food choice there are many things at play which influence which is the right choice personally for you.
For example, protein pancakes are generally more nutritious than standard pancakes, but do you prefer the taste & texture of standard pancakes?
Protein pancakes on paper should help keep you fuller for longer due to protein & fibre, but are they going to satisfy you? Satiety & Satisfaction are different things.
If you are concerned with the lack of nutrients in standard pancakes what’s to stop you from adding a more nutritious topping/side?
Here are some non-nutrition examples…
If you have protein pancakes & the rest of your family is eating standard pancakes are you going to enjoy the social occasion as much?
What about the cost & convenience factors of the ingredients?
Remember that a healthy diet isn’t decided by one meal or ingredient that you eat, it’s what your diet looks like over many days, weeks, months & years.
And sometimes making a less nutritious food choice may mean you’re supporting another area of your total health such as social or economic health.
Enjoy your pancakes whichever they are 🥞
Let's talk about the scale – that thing that you step on & get frustrated (or excited) because of a number it shows).
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀? 🤨
The issue lies with daily fluctuations. Your total body weight weight can jump up and down like a yo-yo, thanks to factors like water retention, digestion, and multiple other things!
And these fluctuations happen regardless of whether you are losing fat or not.
This means that the number you see on the scale on any given day is actually a terrible way of measuring progress.
𝗦𝗼, 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹? 🤷
Well, it becomes more valuable to measure progress the longer you go on.
If you weigh yourself under the same conditions (same time of day, clothing, etc.), you can observe trends over weeks and months.
And if over a few weeks or more the general trend is down you can be pretty dam confident that you’re losing fat. 📉
👉 But here's what’s even better: Don't rely solely on the scale. Use it in combination with other measures like photos, measurements, how your clothes fit, and how you feel. 📸👖
These offer a more complete picture of your journey & can help you take the number on the scale off its pedestal.
The scale is a bit of a head f**k, but it can still be a useful tool.
Become aware of how bodyweight works in the real world, stay consistent, and remember – it's just one piece of your progress. 💪

Take your mind back a second. Where were you on NYE? Can you recall? (Maybe not, depending on how much you'd had to drink).
Think back to your headspace then. Around New Year, many of us set goals, aiming to leave 2023 behind and stride into the new year with fresh, big goals!
🎯 Maybe it's dropping a stone to feel confident in your favourite outfits again.
🎯 Perhaps you're keen on starting to eat healthier, setting a good example for your kids.
🎯 Or like many, you're committing to hitting the gym X times a week to increase your fitness and tone up.
When we set these goals, our intentions are real. Sadly, come February, reality hits...
Life creeps back in, and last year's barriers rear their ugly heads.
Because it's not just about the goals we set—it's about the approach we take.
Loads of busy 9-5ers miss the mark on their weight loss and fitness goals because they're stuck in the endless cycle: kick-off & go hard in January, lose steam by February, fade out in March 🙁
