Great training reference videos for the Pinan Kata - some very minor differences for the way we practice, but these are excellent and good for using outside the dojo training

Northampton Wado Ryu members gave a demonstration of Karate at the official opening of Rectory Farm Community Centre.

The club demonstrated kicking, punching and kata, finishing up with some roundhouse kicks against a pad to show the power behind their techniques.

Watching on was the guest of honour, Mr Andrew Lewer MBE MP,
Member of Parliament for Northampton South (pictured with club members after the demonstration).

Anyone who would like to learn karate is welcome to come along to train in the wonderful new facilities at Rectory Farm.

Consider this Wado Wheel as a way to remember key principles and concepts when faced with an attack. Can you apply it to challenges in your life? Smile and enjoy.

Dear Members,

We want to bring you up to speed with the latest 'return to training' guidance and rules as agreed with DCMS and Sport England

Essentially, there is a four-step programme that will eventually lead to full training and competition. This message covers the first two steps. We expect all EKF Associations and clubs to abide by the steps and guidance as laid out.

STEP ONE,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, from March 29th Outdoor training may resume for all ages and all groups. There are no limits on participation numbers providing the training is officially organised and part of the NGB guidance.

Under 18's can return to normal training which includes CONTACT training. That means partner work is permissible.

Adults must maintain socially distanced training as per EKF guidance. However, pad work is allowed (subject to cleaning protocols). It advised that the person holding the pads wears mask/face covering.

As training is outdoors you must ensure a full risk assessment is in place, considering the surface, age groups, participants footwear and (obviously) the weather!

Please check with your insurance company that you are covered for outdoor training and for any conditions they might set.

STEP TWO (no earlier than 12th April)

Under 18s to return to indoor training. Contact training and partner work is allowed. However, class size should be limited to 15 people.

Adults: Can return to indoor training but on a one-to-one basis. Adults may train in the same room at the same time as an under 18 group providing that social distance is maintained and it is not the same instructor running both sessions.

Also, the date for Step two is an indicative date and is subject to change. We have been advised that the EKF will be informed one week in advance whether the next step can go ahead. The EKF will message through usual channels when we have been given the formal go ahead.

In regards socialising and communing before and after sessions, these are determined by the prevailing government advice which all members are obliged to follow.

More information to follow shortly.

EKF President

WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

Today, 21st March 2021, the world celebrates World Down Syndrome Day with the theme 'We decide'. This is the day advocates of the condition showcase that effective and meaningful participation of persons with Down Syndrome can be attained through accessible information and communication, good support and inclusive consultation. With minor adaptations, karate can be an enjoyable and beneficial form of exercise for those with Down Syndrome. Stay tuned for a coaches guide that has been produced by the EKF in conjunction with National Disability Sports Organisation, DS Active.

Well done to Northampton Wado Ryu members who took part in todays BIKO online Kata Competition.

Everyone performed exceptionally well and were a credit to the club.

Congratulations to:

Laura - 2nd place in 16yrs+, 4th Kyu and above
Mikey - 4th place in 13-15yrs, 4th Kyu and above
Oliver - 6th place in 10-12yrs, 4thy Kyu and above

Everyone had tough categories, now competing in the senior grade sections for their age groups.

Mikey was extremely close to making the Final round in his category, missing out by just 0.1 of a mark.

Oliver performed what was the best kata we've seen from him and, as the youngest and lowest graded in his section, should be really proud of placing so highly.

Well done everyone!
