As much as we are sad to hear of the passing of Queen Elizabeth yesterday, today we remember our friend James Quinton.
Today will mark 10 years since he left this world for a better one.
James was our friend and mentor through producing our "Series 2" of audio adventures, most written by him or a pen name of his (have fun looking and guessing which ones!) and in fact, series two wasn't intended to be our show at all. It was conceived as a series that was to star another late friend, Mark Bruzee, as the Doctor. The story "The Eyes Have It" even has recordings of Mark in the Doctor role. However, Mark's continued commitment to his Darker Projects work prevented him from taking the TARDIS controls.
Thus the series was handed to me (David Nagel) in its present to produce as another series of the David Nagel Doctor under our banner.
Not a day goes past that James doesn't cross my mind; about
food, nonsense and whether the Doctor's companions should die sooner or later! James had penned a few more stories, mainly in extended synopsises, that will see the light of day and dedicated in his name.
James Quinton, you are missed. RIP.
17 years! ago this month, our series one story "Arlington Hall" concluded with act four. Written by David Nagel and starring David Nagel with Michael Maher and a menagerie of guest stars - including some regulars you might have heard before!
The full short can be heard at http://doctorwho.damproductions.co.uk/2001/02/arlington-hall.html
This story plays along with the concept of the board game "Cluedo" and sees the Doctor and Mike attempt to solve a murder mystery at the grand hall of Arlington. "The butler did it" is always whats said, but is that the case here?
18 years! ago, our short trip "Monkey Hangers" was released. Written by Charles Lambert and starring David Nagel and Michael Maher, with guest star Kenny James.
Keen name spotters will know Kenny James is actually the voice of Bowser from Nintendo's series of Super Mario games since 2009.
The full short can be heard at http://doctorwho.damproductions.co.uk/2001/03/monkey-hangers.html
"Monkey Hangers" was followed up by another short in the same vein, entitled "Clowning Around".
13 years ago this month, our audio book adventure "It Ends Where It Began" was released. Narrated by Tegan Harris (who plays Alice in the full cast audios), Alice meets a future Doctor while investigating a deadly new gas.
The story can be heard at http://doctorwho.damproductions.co.uk/2001/08/it-ends-where-it-began.html
Written by Eric C Johnson with music by Tony Diana.
19 years ago this month, our first fan film "Chimera" hit the internet. Starring David Nagel and Matthew Chambers, whom met for the first time at Longleat where episode one is set, feature as two Doctors brought together and pitted against the creature known as the Chimera.
The film can be watched and downloaded from http://doctorwho.damproductions.co.uk/2001/03/chimera.html
The Chimera character was devised by The Battered Suitcase Theatre Company and originally appeared in a Doctor Who stage production way back in 2000. The Chimera costume was repurposed and used in our film, written by Matthew Chambers and heavily edited by David Nagel (because David likes a good laugh). Most of the story was shot at Longleat (originally the home of the only Doctor Who exhibition at the time) and includes appearances by members of the Project Dalek group.
This film continues to be well overdue for release on DVD; where a new soundtrack has been composed, a new edit completed and a whole bunch of new "special features" that haven't seen the light of day for 10 years. This is still, regrettably, in the pipeline - but not forgotten!
to our long time collaborator and voice of Alice Morgan, Tegan Harris!
