Solid paint lines require solid wall prep…

Great end to the week working on this lovely kitchen to create a whole new look!

The walls and corners were not in the best condition so after plenty of sanding, sculpting, filling and more sanding, the angles and corners are looking a lot sharper now, essential when painting with dark colours!

The ceiling edge above the window has a curved transition into the wall, so a new line of its own was needed with the customer wanting to stick with a white ceiling. Definitely the right choice and it really makes the green pop! 🔥

Always an absolute joy working for this customer, they make it a real pleasure to come to work and I always feel so welcome! Thank you!!

Looking forward to heading back in a few weeks time to decorate the lounge! 😀

Earthborne’s Polka Dot (walls) and the subtle Sandy Castle (woodwork) the fantastic mix of colours in this beautiful little bathroom this week and may I say what fine colour choices too from my customers who ALWAYS seem to get it right every time!

Both mixed in to durable moisture resistant finishes that are built to last in these high humidity areas!

A problem chalky wall stripped right back and stabilised prior to the colour going on and the little sink unit had a makeover to match in with the rest of the woodwork.

Can’t wait to see pictures once their new bright yellow flooring goes down!

Always a pleasure working for these lovely regular customers! Can’t wait for the next visit and the next colour explosion! 👌🏼

Out in nature this week!

And what a lovely week it was, working for lovely people who spoilt me rotten I tell you!

A spruce up and colour change to windows, french doors, facias and guttering was the task at hand. A beautiful home set in a beautiful location… add to that some beautiful weather and some cute pets that made each day a joy! The sun cream was a must, though I forgot on the last day and I’m paying the price now!

Few before and afters…

Thank you as always to my customers for trusting me to carry out the work on their stunning home! 🏠☀️

So I just stumbled across this photo today from last summer and with it being Father’s Day too I felt the urge to share…

I had the pleasure of working for a new customer last year painting their outside. Obviously you get chatting about one thing or another and before long he’d worked out that I was the grandson of Arthur (my dad’s dad) who was a carpenter from Kelsall whom he knew very well!

He took me round to the front of his house and showed me this… a bird box my late grandad had built over 40 years previous.

My grandad passed away when I was a young teenager, but my brother and I have amazing memories of hanging out with our grandad on summer holidays in his work shed making peg guns and swords and watching as he built these beautiful bird boxes, garden benches and wishing wells!

Knowing my customer had looked after this bird box for all these years was very heartwarming and standing there as a 38 year old man looking at it felt incredibly special!

Just thought I’d share today.

Happy Father’s Day dad Ian Singing Decorator Whitfield and happy Father’s Day grandad!

Little staircase refresh to end the week (under stair cupboard, bannister and spindles only). Converted the old oil based gloss finish over to a water based finish which will now stay white and not go yellow/discolour over time!

A lovely few days spent with lovely people! Thank you for having me, it was an absolute pleasure!!

Before and after of a kitchen redecoration done for my lovely new customers in Cuddington.

They’d recently removed kitchen tiles from above the kitchen worktop and it had left the surface looking a little worse for wear! A plaster board repair and a patch re-skim was the order of the day to get this section of wall back to full health again.

So pleased with how it turned out!

What a lovely few days spent with such lovely, welcoming people. Thanks for looking after me and trusting me to carry out the work in your beautiful home! It’s been an absolute pleasure!

Until the next time!

What a lovely week it’s been working for such a wonderful couple who made me feel so welcome in their home!

Having stripped the existing lining paper and the old feature wallpaper the walls hiding beneath weren’t in the best shape. Cracks galore, loose plaster and water staining. A lot of prep work went into getting these walls looking like new again.

The walls were cleaned, sanded, stabilised, skim filled all over and sanded again before painting and a nice new wallpaper added to the feature wall!

The result… a fresh new look with walls that will last!

I always say the best jobs are the jobs with dogs and this job had a 4 legged legend living there, his name… Rodney (or Rodders as he’s known by friends and family). He saw my van pull up each day and ran to greet me at the door. We had a brew together every morning (he literally has a brew every morning) and discussed the plan of attack for the day! I’ll miss that little fella!

Thank you as always to my wonderful customers for trusting me to carry out the work.

This week I had the pleasure of being asked by a local company to paint the ceiling in their classroom craft centre in Northwich.

Simon made the big decision to turn the ceiling “company colour blue” and so I took one of his coasters down to to get the colour matched.

It’s fair to say it has really paid off and thankfully Simon is one happy first aider!

If you or anybody you know are looking to attend a first aid course be sure to hit up Simon at Cheshire First Aid. You’ll be met with the warmest of welcomes by a gentleman with the kindest of hearts!

Thanks again for having me guys! I’ll be sure to book on a course soon! ❤️💙♥️💙

Last weeks customer had all their woodwork changed to black! 🖤
When they put this little (white) cupboard back to cover their electrical box it stood out like a sore thumb… so that was my homework for the weekend! I couldn’t leave it there and have it ruin all my hard work!!

Photos from The Singing Decorators Son's post 03/05/2024

A very nervous couple took the leep into a dramatic change this week and the 3 of us think that it’s really paid off!!

The graft was reel on this one… the previous paintwork was peeling due to it being painted onto a stain varnish surface with minimal prep.

So it was all stripped back, resanded, prepped and painted in a lovely black satin!

The customers were very happy they’d taken the “risk” and gone for it!

I’ve been spoilt rotten with tea & biscuits and some apricot and ginger cheese (new one on me and a new staple for the shopping list).

Thank you so much for looking after me and for trusting me to carry out the work in your home!

Lovely little job to end the week while the sun has reared its head if only for a short while….

Porch revamp!!

The posts were from rough sawn wood and had been attacked by the cats too making them even rougher!! It didn’t match in with the smoothness of the spindles so after a sand and a prime they were skim filled, sanded, painted and filled again before the final 2 coats just to smoothen them out and create a more uniform look!

The porch roof also had a little spruce up with the face feature and support beams picked out in the same grey as the rest!

Made up with the result! ☀️😎

A recent trip to the Lego store and a shufty through the “Build Your Own Lego Man” stand ended in this result…

Well… I couldn’t find a white bib & brace torso, nor could I find a paintbrush, but from what I could find he has…

- Scissors ✅
- White pants ✅
- A baseball cap (often found on my person) ✅
- Paint splotches (also (occasionally) found on my person 🫣) ✅

I did my best and that’s all you can do.. a solid 7/10 in my opinion!!

Back at this beautiful Victorian home again last week working on the customers patio/dining room, heat pump room, downstairs toilet, stairs and landing.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working at this property! A lot to get my teeth into, from fresh lime plaster walls when I did the kitchen and two tone door frames with a mixture of treated oak architraves and off white satin door frames to patch skimming walls of uneven plaster…

It’s been a pleasure to work on and just as much of a pleasure working for these lovely customers, who after months of living in what has felt like a building site to them for such a long time, have now got a space they can relax and dine in and start to finally see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel after all their effort and patience!

Thank so much to my customers for trusting me with this project!

Just been on a quote and met a lovely couple… the lady kindly asked her husband to put some testers on the wall for when she got home… and that’s what he did! Not sure if that’s what she meant though!? 🤣🤣

When they said he’s outgrown Marvel and he wants a more grown up room I almost refused… and then I discovered that there was no Spider-Man on the old wallpaper and I was happy to oblige!!

What a great week and a very rewarding job!! I do love a hand painted kitchen!!

Pictures from a fantastic project completed this week! I had the privilege of working on a customer’s Victorian (built in 1859) cottage.

The walls are finished in traditional lime plaster to keep these old walls breathable. Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion (🎨 Setting Plaster) was applied to the lime plaster as it has breathable properties and allows the lime plaster to carry on doing its job.

The kitchen units have been hand painted in a satin finish (🎨 F&B Bancha) to give depth of colour.

I think you’ll all agree the colour choices are amazing and it all works so well!

The customer is in the throws of a major project in their beautiful home. It’s been so chaotic and stressful for them. Now they have a room that is almost there (just the splash back to add to the hob wall) and they can finally see some progress.

I’m so grateful they let me be a part of it and I can’t wait for the next stage of painting in a few weeks time!

Lovely job just finished today!

A freshen up with some really nice subtle colours.

Working for a lovely family local to me with some friendly little pets to boot, which is always a bonus…. And some new music discovered to take away too, another big plus! 🤘🏻

Thank you as always for trusting me to carry out the work!

Non-decorating related but…

Some neighbours of mine are doing a sky dive for the Alzheimer’s Society (who provide help and support with those suffering from alzheimer’s and dementia) soon if anybody is interested in supporting them and this great cause. It’s a disease that I’m sure has affected so many of us and one that has sadly recently effected our family.

Please hit the link below if you’d like to show your support! I know they’d really appreciate it!

Nice little day had today papering a stair feature wall with plenty of cuts and splicing which I really enjoy! A well disguised curtain pole fixing beam was a personal favourite! 🫣

Great day had working for an old school friend and it was lovely to catch up on years gone by. A knock at the door was opened to another old classmate delivering a parcel… it was like a high school reunion!!… and none of us have aged!! 🫣😂
