Welcome to the Leeming Flyer, a narrowboat owned by RAF Leeming that is available for rental at Bartington Wharf, Cheshire. Our boat is moored on the Cheshire Ring, which offers stunning views and charming pubs along the way. 🚨🚨🚨We are now taking bookings for the 2023 season from RAF Leeming Personnel!🚨🚨🚨

If you’ve ever fancied hiring a narrowboat for a short break, then consider hiring the Leeming Flyer, a contact house on water available at reduced fees for MOD personnel.

Based at Acton Bridge Marina on the Cheshire Ring, the Leeming Flyer is a 6-birth (3 double beds) narrowboat. It has central heating, a kitchen, dining room, lounge with TV and bathroom with shower.

The Cheshire Ring provides a range of scenery from the gentle rolling plains of the Cheshire countryside to the peaks of the Peak District National Park. There is a variety of canal features en-route including locks, aqueducts, and tunnels. District views fill your route as you follow part of the historic silk trail and, in contrast, you visit the heart of Manchester through its secret waterway backdoor.

It is made up of 3 canals: the Macclesfield Canal running through Congleton and Macclesfield, the Trent and Mersey through Middlewich and Wheelock and the Bridgewater Canal through Lymm in the North. The Shropshire Union Canal also skirts Chester's City Walls where you can explore 2000 years of history. Why not explore one of the many towns and villages en-route or take a trip to see Anderton Boat Lift, an incredible site perched on the banks of the River Weaver.

No previous experience is required - lessons on how to manoeuvre the boat and canal etiquette are given upon arrival at the marina, including a full walk-through of the boat and its facilities.

Surplus from hire fees will go towards a refurb fund for the boat and the RAF Leeming Junior Ranks Welfare Fund.

Our Story

The Leeming Flyer is a 67ft narrow boat owned by RAF Leeming. It is moored at the Acton Bridge Marina in Bartington, Cheshire. The boat is on the Bridgewater Canal which hosts some amazing views (and pubs!) along the way. There are multiple routes you can choose, including the Cheshire Ring, Four Counties Ring, or head into Chester or Wigan. These routes all vary in distance depending on how many days you are away, how many hours a day you want to be on the move and the number of locks you want to traverse. No matter the weather, a good time is guaranteed.
The boat offers up to a 6 berth set up, comprising of 1 double bed and 2 double sofa bed. All bedding is supplied. There is a fitted bathroom, including a shower and a fully functioning kitchen area with oven/grill, gas hob, microwave and kettle. All of the kitchen essentials are on board so all you need is your groceries! There is a spacious and comfortable living room area to relax, complete with a television with Free-view.
If you're an experienced boater, or have never been behind the wheel before, full training is given on arrival and the marina staff are more than happy to help.

This is a not for profit rental. We just want to give forces personnel and their friends/family an affordable and enjoyable opportunity to relax on-board this lovely boat.
