Where would we be without Adobe! 🤷‍♀️

Passing away earlier this month, Dr. Warnock’s technological innovations inspired creativity on a global scale. Co-founding Adobe in 1982 he pioneered software such as Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop.
As Adobe now embraces the new era of AI with Firefly it’s impossible not to see the benefits these new tools already bring to the table.

What better way to explore Britain’s largest protected wetland than on-board one of the cottages three private boats. 🦆🛶⛵️

Bars and branding… what’s not to love! 🙌

Having used Filly & Foal Mobile Bar Hire at my own wedding and being blow away by their attention to detail it was a joy to be able to return the favour!

I loved working on this branding project creating their new logo and additional mini brand guidelines to help guide a quick refresh of their existing website.

When designing a logo It's important to consider how it will translate across all promotional material going forward.

Copying and pasting your logo over and over can be, well, a little repetitive so including additional elements such as iconography or illustrations which support your branding can be helpful.

By deconstructing the Safety Space logo and using the icons to support the brand added variation whilst keeping it consistent.

Designing the new website for Riversdale Cottage was a dream! 🫶🦆🏡

This tranquil riverside retreat, nestled in the heart of the Norfolk Broads needed a new website as an additional platform to promote the property.

Earthy tones that mirror the surrounding landscape paired with bespoke illustrations of plants native to the Norfolk Broads reflect the cottages unique charm.

We really are spoilt for choice in Norfolk.

Fact #1... it’s hard coming up with content! So, while some may call this a fill-in post, others may call this pretty interesting. 🤔🤷‍♀️

Safety Space, a business that thrives on challenging the status quo needed an impactful identity to reflect their unique approach to safety and compliance.

I loved working on this project as it really had a little bit of everything. Bringing all those elements together to create a cohesive and recognisable brand has been great fun to work on.

Behind the screens…

For those who don’t know me, hello… I’m Becky! 👋

I’ve been happily designing for the last 9 years and decided 10 months ago to dip my toes into the world of freelancing, something I’ve always wanted to do!

Alongside running Happy Graphix, I also work at a marketing agency so it’s fair to say I literally live and breathe graphic design which is handy, because I love it!

Less is more...

It’s easy to assume that the best way to get your message across is to pack as much information into the design as possible. However, this can often have the opposite effect.

The design becomes overcrowded and it’s impossible for the viewer to know where to start.

It’s important to identify the key message. What are you trying to say to the viewer? Don’t overcomplicate it.

In many cases less is more when it comes to communicating your message effectively.

I do love a Mockup! 😍

They are an incredibly useful way to visualise how your branding will look in real life. I try to incorporate them where I can, mainly within brand guidelines to demonstrate how your new branding will look in action.

Since starting my freelance venture I decided to make more time to build upon my skills as a designer. Whether that’s watching tutorials, exploring new tools or sitting down with a good old fashioned book. Making the time to practice and learn is always time well spent.

I loved designing this logo for a self-catering holiday cottage along the North Norfolk Coast so I decided to do a bit of brand development to help set the scene for this idyllic cottage.

Enjoyed visiting Art Fair East yesterday. I always leave exhibitions feeling inspired to have a go myself… time to dig out the ol’ acrylics?!

It only takes 50 milliseconds for viewers to form an opinion of your business based on your logo. 😱

With so much to pack into such a short space of time it can be hard to know where to start.

Here are 4 characteristics to consider when thinking about your logo.

Oh, if only it were that simple!

But in design… it can be! 🤩

Happiness by design is something that works both ways between the designer and client. 🤝

What makes me happy as a designer is knowing the client is happy with the finished product. 🙌 😅

There is of course a bunch of other stuff that goes into making design ‘happy’ so if you want to find out more, listen to this: Stephan Sagmeister: Happiness by design. ✌️

Fonts. It’s hard not to get carried away… there are literally so many of them! But where to start? 🤔

Let’s stick to the two most important. Serif and Sans Serif.

In a nutshell 🥜🫘🌰, serif fonts have fancy flicks at the end of each character while sans serif fonts don’t.

The “flicks” make up the anatomy of a font and have loads of different names. Let’s save that one for a rainy day! 😳

Serif fonts work well with brands looking for a more traditional feel conveying an established and trustworthy look.

Sans serif fonts are usually associated with modern brands and can have a simplistic, playful look.

Ultimately though, the choice is yours! Go with what you feel is right for your brand. 🫵 🤩

Sew... 🧵 🧶 🪡 i've been looking back at a branding project I worked on for Lilybobbs, a local business selling home crafted children's clothing.

I love all areas of design but i'll always have a soft spot for branding! Creating colour palettes that pop and pairing them with the perfect font never really feels like work! 💛💙💚

Who loves colour? I do! 🍁🍂

Colour can be so evocative and that's why it's so important to match your palette to the type of emotional connection you want you customers to have with your brand.

As a designer, you hear a lot of talk about keeping ‘on trend’. ✌️🕶

As cringey as that sounds it’s so important to get out there and be inspired. There's an abundance of design inspo to keep your creative juices flowing for eternity.

Ideas to keep in the creative memory bank until that perfect moment when you remember a design you saw months ago and realise how it would translate perfectly onto a new project that just came in.

Design retention seems to be something that comes with the territory of being a graphic designer but there are so many ways the client can influence the design through suggested fonts, colours and imagery. This helps us build a picture of your vision and enables us to make it a reality.
