“Body positivity” was originally known as “The fat Acceptance Movement” and was created by Black and Q***r women in the 1960s, to fight the discrimination and shame they faced due to their weight.
It has since been adopted by social media influencers and fashion brands to what we know it as today
The thing is, it’s really f-ing hard to ‘love’ your body fully whilst living in such a fat-phobic society, where diet culture constantly pushes the “thin at all cost narrative”.
It’s even bloody harder in the wake of the current Ozempic/wegovy craze.
But I have another option for you, one that keeps it real and takes into consideration the context of the world we live in and that is
“Body Neutrality”
Long story short body neutrality is “the act of taking a neutral stance toward your body – both emotionally and physically”.
If you’re thinking “how the fk do I even begin to do that!?”
I will be going deeper into this topic in next weeks newsletter and in my “Body and Food Freedom” Facebook group.
To get involved and learn how body neutrality could transform the way you view your body, drop a “🙏” in the comments and I’ll send you the links!
A lot of people are put off by the term body acceptance, and that's completely understandable when we have NEVER been encouraged by society to accept the body we have. The multi-billion dollar diet industry wouldn't be doing so well if that was the case!
But it doesn't have to be scary and there are things you can do to get to a place where you no longer actively dislike your body and constantly trying the change it.
If you would like support on your own body image journey, make sure you join the Body Freedom Blueprint waiting list! Comment 'BFB' below and I will add you to the list!
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone working on their health and fitness, it would be to "Calm the f**k down."
Take a breath, slow down, and start trusting yourself again.
We are constantly being told that we must do XYZ to be the healthiest and best version of ourselves. More often than not, we end up overwhelmed and feeling worse than before.
Sometimes less is more. Going back to basics, and more importantly, doing what YOU feel good doing, is the best thing you can do for your long-term health and happiness.
This is the approach I take with my clients and will be the main theme of my new 'Body Freedom Blueprint' online program. If this sounds like something you need in your life, make sure you join the waiting list.

Give yourself a break!
Being hard on yourself for not meeting the unrealistic standards of the health and fitness industry is pointless.
The best to start is where you are right now!
Lower your expectations, go for the low hanging fruit and celebrate every single win. No matter how big all small.
Once you see it you can't un-see it 👀
Diet culture messaging is absolutely everywhere. On every TV show, blog, vlog, social media post, meme, book, podcast 99% of the time you will see some sort of messaging or narrative that stems from the s**t diet culture has been spewing for decades.
It goes far beyond weight-loss and the need to be thin and plays into so many intersections of society.
The biggest part of my journey to a better relationship with food, my body, and exercise was learning about DC and how it shows up in our everyday lives.
Becoming aware of the nonsense helps to shed the negative beliefs we have about health, fatness, thinness, exercise and food and begin to repair the damage that has been done.
If you would like to learn more about all this stuff and how to improve your health and fitness in non-diet space, head over to the link in my bio and join the waiting list for my 'Body Freedom Blueprint" Online Coaching Programme!
Do you ever walk into the gym and think "wtf do I do now"
With all the information out there it can be really overwhelming to know what do in the gym, especially when a lot of that information is utter nonsense!
With this easy to follow Push, Pull, Legs, Core formula you can quickly and easily create a full body workout.
Knowing what you are doing when you're at the gym is a really great way to start building your gym confidence.
REMEMBER, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF EXERCISING IS ENJOYING IT!
If you want to know more about lifting weights without the diet culture bs attached, make sure you join the waiting list for my brand new online group coaching programme, No diet, New You!

"I can't be trusted around food"
Ever felt like this was true for you?
It is a really common belief among the people I work with and completely not true!
Food is not the enemy and you are not the problem.
Years of diet culture messaging has completely skewed how we view food and how we think should eat, taking us further and further away from our bodies and what we actually want and need.
Intuitive Eating can be a challenging idea to get your head around because it requires a lot of uncomfortable work at times and un-learning a lot of what we've been told about how/when/what to eat.
But the freedom it can provide you can be life changing.
Intuitive Eating will be a huge chunk of what I cover in my upcoming online coaching group, so if you would like to learn how to implement this into your own life make sure you join the waiting list!

🌟 Say goodbye to diet culture and hello to empowering language! 💪 Using weight-neutral compliments in health and fitness discussions is a direct challenge to harmful norms. It shifts the narrative away from restrictive diets and unrealistic standards, promoting a more inclusive and positive mindset.
One of the biggest misconceptions when you start talking about ditching diet culture, is that you are giving up on any attempts to look after your health!
However, the truth is quite the opposite. Ditching diet culture doesn't mean neglecting your health; it means prioritising it in a way that's sustainable and nourishing for both your body and mind.
Ditching diet culture and all the BS that comes with it, is probably the best thing you can do for your long term health and happiness!
If you would like to know more about diet culture and more importantly how to step away from it, head over to the link in my bio and check out my free "Ditching Diet Culture' E-book.
