A really great experience at Royal Television Society’s event last night Cinema City, Norwich.
We showed the recent video Trett Films created for Ian Fleming Publications and told the tale of how that video came to be. Afterwards, along with other agencies in the region, we had an in-depth Q&A hosted by Claire Jermany on what it is like to work with clients and produce brand films.
Thanks to Charlie Gauvain for hosting and great to also hear from Rachel Prendergast 🎥, Peter Naylor and Justin Hunt on their own brand films.
We visited the Future Radio studio to talk all things Trett Films including our recent project with Ian Fleming Publications on the trailer we created for the new Charlie Higson Bond Novel, 'On His Majesty's Secret Service'.
Trett Films were able to collaborate with the amazing folks at Lacons to put together this cinemafic case study showcasing how they use Crisp Malt products in their brews and interact with the Crisp team on a daily basis. And let me tell you, it definitely results in some damn good beer!

The start of 2024 felt a little bit quiet at first for Trett Films but this month has been incredibly busy and June looks to be just the same.
I admit, we don't look very productive in that first photo...
To name a few bits we've worked on:
🎬 Finished the sound mix for our short film "Dial."
🖋️ Worked on developing a new feature film script - exciting times ahead!
📅 Filmed two productive days with Thera Trust.
🎥 Completed the Cumbrian Challenge, raising money for Walking with the Wounded with Flagship and Gasway.
✍️ Deep into pre-production on a new story-led corporate video.
📹 Filmed two days with Crisp Malt and Esme.
🍺 Launched a new video case study for Lacons Brewery.
❤️ Filmed two fantastic days with Hopestead.
🤫 Wrapped up an exciting new top-secret video project (stay tuned!).
🎉 Ending the month with a Q&A film screening at the Norwich Games Festival.
Took me forever to get these emojis all lined up like that.
Popped into Andrew Swallow’s (re-recording mixer on Dial) sound studio at Epic Studios
Really great to hear the film on a Dolby 5.1 set up and see it projected for the first time.
We are nearly there.
We talk a lot about how cinema influences our work in the commerical and corporate video production sector.
Now, it isn’t always as obvious as this and we may lift a techinique or reference and develop it so far that it becomes its own thing but these images demonstrate just a few examples.
With these stills, It’s also not about copying and pasting a LUT or ‘joker style’ present but choosing the right mise-en-scene, the direction, the lighting, the performance, the colour grading and its place in how it serves the video.
It’s also not about shoehorning this stuff in but having a bank of knowledge to know when a particular element serves the story, regardless of the type of video you’re producing.
Trett Films headed to London to work with Treacle 7 to shoot an exciting new podcast with LBBonline - Little Black Book.
In the world of a million podcasts, how do you make a new one stand out? First, do what Matt Cooper did and get a pretty stellar panel of guests with a good topic thrown in the middle. But also this was a podcast about creativity so we thought it should be delivered creatively. The guys featured were patient enough to take my direction for 'hero shot' poses in an alley outside Bark Studios in Soho. We also threw on a wide-angle lens at times, kept the camera moving to keep the energy up and adopted a really dynamic approach in post to make this feel new and vibrant and cool.
Featuring Sir John Hegarty, Patrick Murphy, CARL ADDY and Simon Elms hosted by Matt Cooper.
Thanks to Daniel Hearn and Daniel Jones from Treacle.

We decided it was time our website needed some proper head shots of the bros behind Trett that also really show off our brand and everything we are into.
With Art Direction from Sonia Soomessur, local photographer Kate Bryan shot these wondeful cinematic snaps which we can now use across our website and any press release of future TF productions.
Moody eh?
Is anybody else’s FYP Rory Sutherland-city right now?
His expertise in marketing is incredible but he is also a welcome and warm presence to any scroll session.
Trett Films worked with Rory and School of Marketing to highlight the giants SoM and its learners are connected to. We hear from a plethora of influencial CMOs with their insights on the power of marketing and education.
Filmed all over London over a couple of days, we dropped in these little transition shots of London public transport to bring the fast paced vibe to life even more.
Check out this cool behind-the-scenes glimpse of a School of Marketing brand film featuring the talented Tyreese Ross.
The video explores how an apprentice can totally shake things up for a small business and turn their marketing game around. Plus, we're did it all in the beautiful and camera-friendly city of Norwich.

Talkin 'bout storyboards in the world of Trett Films
Storyboards can be an essential part of the pre-production process.
We don't use them for productions that take more of a 'documentary' format as we are normally capturing stuff in reality, with real people as it happens and then finding the story in the edit.
However, for more narrative and story-focused productions, storyboards are perfect for developing your shots and story, communicating with cast, crew and client and helping you stick to schedule when filming.
At the same time, we don't live and die storyboards. Often on location, we will find alternative or better shots that tell our story that don't match the panels but they're still a useful tool to springboard from.
Our very talented go-to storyboard artist Ana does a very good job of translating my poo scribbles into lovely illustrated panels that pre-vis the video ahead of a rolling camera.
Fermenting filmmakers 🍺
A behind the scenes look from a few weeks
ago when we travelled to brewery to film a little case study video starring their key brewers.
A very great and welcoming team!👭👬👫🍻
Keep an eye out for the final results…🎬
Trett Films worked closely with Broom Boats to produce this emotive and warm film for them last year. 🎬✨
The tale of a mother and son’s discovery of the Norfolk Broads with Broom Boats. 🛥️
When we spoke to Broom, they said they often see teens initially seem reluctant about a broads with their parents until they actually set sail and they would always step off the boat smiling. We thought this was a great basis for a story.
Throwback to snowy London where Trett Films once again were able to collaborate with B2E Media and shoot some short films for Lloyd’s Bank ❄️🌨️
This was a run and gun type filming but the results came back very unique.
Filming in the cold is always fun right? (mattys hands are infact still frozen to the camera rig)🥶
Let’s dive into the (sometimes subtle) art of colour grading It's not just about adjustments, but crafting emotions and enhancing narratives.
Say no to the copy-paste approach; embrace the magic of storytelling through colour grading.
Storyboards can be the backbone of your production. Outlining ideas into a reality that can be understood by client, cast and crew 🎥🎬
📞 Thrilled to share a sneak peek of 'Dial,' our latest production at Trett Films. This psychological horror/drama has been a true labor of love, a passion project that's consumed us for over a year.
The film follows Dani who lives with her ill mother who suddenly dies in her care. Shortly after her passing, Dani finds her mother's phone won't stop ringing.
Stay tuned for more updates on the release date 🎥🎬
We met with Broom Boats a little while ago and had a really good chat about all the good they were doing and we were working out ways to effectively address some of these new ventures into a video whilst still telling a heartwarming tale.
Broom is a company with a long heritage and history so we wanted to lightly touch on this with the video by exploring the theme of memories and bringing them into the current day.
A lot of the younger holidaymakers may also be initially skeptical of a broads holiday with their mother but always step off the boat with gleaming smiles, so we wanted to weave that into the mother-son-bonding plot too.
Summer may be a distant memory now but for a good part of 2023, trying to navigate a summer holiday video around this year's weather was very difficult but this production eventually came together with big efforts from Mihaela C., Ryan Day, Matty Trett and Josh Trett

Super proud of this. The campaign we produced the video content for with Apprenticeships Norfolk has won TWO gold awards in the regional CIPR awards! 🏆🏆
We are so pleased to finally FINALLY share our new film for The Wensum Trust. 🥳
We wanted to make this feel very real to experiences we have all shared, overcoming challenges of school life and growing up with the support of the teachers and friends around us.
Please give it a watch and I hope you enjoy!
Anyone who has ever listened to us talk about our work knows we always go on and on (sorry) about making our projects feel 'cinematic'. 🎬
But what the heck does that even mean??? 🤷♂️
Here's a few examples of projects where we've referenced some frames from other films. Sometimes it's not just all about the composition, it can be the look and feel of a certain filmmaker.
The important thing here is that it still fits with the video we are creating and make it our own, but it's always fun to hide these little nods to some of our favourite movies.
We recently did a talk for Norwich Business Improvement District and Norfolk Network's Norwich Talks Up Business series. We always get asked this question about working together so here's a little snippet from the Q&A!
