Order of St Beryl - Leaping Beryllians Grammar
A girls' grammar school (11 - 18) and religious order (leaping order of Trappist nuns), in Norwich. Founded by St. Beryl, daughter of St. Vitus.
The Order of St Beryl was founded in Norwich in 1469. It is unique in being a Trappist, Leaping order. Situated amongst hostile fenlands populated by poisonous snakes and forbidden by oath to take any life, human or animal, the Sisters preserved their lives by learning - with the inspiration of God, speaking through Beryl, daughter of the famed dancer, St Vitus - to leap over the snakes. Should a

Some notes from Sister Harmonica's very interesting lecture on etymology:
"One of the common misconceptions occasionally held by amateur etymologists is the idea that one might sit down and stare at a word for a good long while, and by dint of thoughtfulness and a certain amount of daring, come up with a reasonable explanation for its origin. That’s not how etymology usually works. For an example of why this sort of approach is not the most efficacious, we may look to the recent introduction into English of the word 'nunchuck.' This word, which is defined as “a weapon that consists of two usually hardwood sticks joined at their ends by a short length of rawhide, cord, or chain,” came into our language in the late 1960s, and has very little to do with chucking and even less to do with nuns."
Oh, really, Sister?"
"To laugh is divine" - even in these troubled times, Sisters Angelica, Veronica and Superflua remind us all of our sacred duty.
