Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccine
From 1st September 2024 an older adults and maternal RSV vaccination programme has been announced.
Why is it recommended?
Respiratory syncytial virus is a common cause of acute respiratory tract infections which are usually mild and self-limiting. The virus is transmitted via respiratory droplets (coughing, sneezing), through close contact with an infected person or contact with contaminated surfaces. Symptoms usually include runny nose, cough and fever. For infants, and older adults, the virus can lead to more severe illness and hospitalisation.
Who is eligible?
All people who are at least 28 weeks pregnant (the eligible cohort) on 1 September 2024, can receive a single dose of the RSV vaccine. After that, pregnant people will become eligible as they reach 28 weeks gestation and remain eligible up to birth. The ideal opportunity to offer vaccination would be at the 28-week antenatal contact (ANC), following prior discussion at the 20-week ANC.
All adults turning 75 years old on or after 1 September 2024 will also be eligible for the vaccination programme and can receive a single dose of the RSV vaccine on or after their 75th birthday. Adults will remain eligible until the day before their 80th birthday.
If you need medical help, think NHS 111 first.
There are many healthcare options available but If you aren’t sure which service you need NHS 111 is available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week to advise:
🌐 Online - just search NHS 111
📱 By phone, just dial 111
Due to unforeseen circumstances and unprecedented staff illness, the surgery has reduced capacity today.
Please be aware that access to medical care can be obtained from your local pharmacy, 111, the Urgent Care Centre and the Accident & Emergency Department when appropriate.
Thank you for your understanding.

Some of our clinicians were at the Arnold Summer Fair last weekend promoting social prescribing, NHS app, monitoring blood pressure and diet. They were also promoting talking therapies, pharmacy first and additional roles in General Practice who patients can see such as the pharmacist, physiotherapist, mental health OT.
A good day was had by all in the sunshine!
Thank you so much to our staff, guest attendees and members of our PPG who volunteered to assist our Men’s Mental Health Open Day today, and our patients/visitors who attended the event. We are hopeful that those who attended feel that they have been provided with the right information, support and guidance to help them with their mental health struggles.
Thank you also to our staff who donated and bought food to go to food banks, members of the public who purchased/donated goodies, and Greggs who provided us with free doughnuts, cakes and biscuits for our event.
Open days are a great way of spreading awareness, and the support and signposting we provide will continually be available for those in need.
As mentioned previously, we will be hosting further open days at the practice to include a Women’s Mental Health Open Day, and an under 18’s Mental Health Open Day with dates to be confirmed, so please keep a look out for this.
Finally, please be kind to one another and check in with those around you who might be struggling in silence.
Kind regards,
Highcroft Surgery
Hello all,
This is a reminder about our Men’s Mental Health Open Day we are having at the Practice tomorrow from 9am to 1pm.
Sadly, data on deaths by suspected su***de in England shows that for the period December 2022 to February 2024:
* Rates are higher for males compared to females
* Rates are higher for the age groups 25 to 44 and 45 to 64, compared to the 10 to 25 and 65 and over age groups
You are not alone and we are here to signpost you to services that are available to support you.
Guest attendees will be joining the event to share their knowledge and to also update patients about services available.
Men are welcome to bring along their partner, family member, carer or friend in support.
Teas, coffees, cakes and nibbles will be provided.
We ask that it is noted that patients attending the open day do not confuse the event with a consultation. The open day is to share services locally and signpost patients to support that is available.
To add on, we will also be hosting a Women’s Mental Health Open Day and an under 18s Mental Health Open Day with dates to be confirmed.
We look forward to welcoming you to our event.
