4 boys who've been friends for over 40 years raising funds for Myeloma UK. The average prognosis for somebody with Adam’s cancer is ten years.

In November 2019, the day before his second child was born, our friend Adam was diagnosed with Multiple-Myeloma (MM), an incurable blood cancer. But, Adam is younger, fitter and stronger than the average MM patient. There is also significant ongoing work to find a cure for this horrible disease, which Myeloma UK are involved with. We 4 boys have been friends for over 40 years. We are as close to b

Nice share from Myeloma UK.

Myeloma patient Adam Richmond and a group of his friends took on a 'Coast 2 Coast' challenge, cycling from Whitehaven (west coast) to Sunderland (east coast) to raise funds for Myeloma UK!

Adam was diagnosed with myeloma at 42 years old. He is married to his wife Petra and together they have five-year-old Lucy and 18-month-old Bill. Speaking of the impact myeloma has had on his family, Adam said:

"I’ve always felt that my primary aim in life is to be the best father and husband I can be. My diagnosis has not changed that, but it has brought it into crystal clarity."

Adam explained his motivations behind the challenge:

"From a selfish point of view, I want to do everything I can to support efforts to find a cure for myeloma, preferably within my lifetime!

From a pain point of view: I, like many patients, have developed peripheral
neuropathy (PN) in my feet. I wanted to take on a challenge, do some serious exercise and see what happened (my PN is not significantly reduced, but the fear associated with it is less, and I am definitely less concerned about it than I had been).

From a father’s point of view: I believe one of the key roles of a father is to be a role model. One of the most important lessons a role model can teach is to always try your best, even when life is difficult, and the odds are stacked against you. This is my effort at being the best possible dad I can be for as long as possible."

We would like to say a Huge thank you to Shield Row chippy. Not only did they stay open for us delaying their holiday, they wouldn't let us pay them and insisted we just donated the money to our charity.
And possibly the best gravy I have ever had.
Genuinely fabulous food and lovely people.
Thanks again and all the best for the future.

A huge thank you (again) to Andrew and Gillian Wilson of Dukeries homes who are going to do the Derbyshire 3 peaks challenge next weekend and have decided to try and raise some money for us which is absolutely incredible.
Another very challenging task.

Here's what Gilly had to say:

Drew and I shall be taking on this challenge this coming Saturday!!
Being totally overwhelmed and 'in awe' of our good friend Ben and his team completing the C2C challenge this week I thought it would be a good opportunity to do our challenge to raise a few more pennies for their cause.

If you'd like to sponsor them then please use the link below and just mention in the comments that you're donating for them and their challenge.

Good luck guys and make sure you send us plenty of pics! X

We've only gone and done it.
What an absolute incredible achievement from all of the boys. Especially Adam who is an inspiration to us all. He was at the front of the pack most of the time.
It was fabulous to have Petra, Lucy and Bill at the finish line to greet us all. The celebrations have started already.
A massive thank you to every single one of you have supported us. We are now at well over £12k and the donations are still coming in.

Wow, what a day. Unfortunately we had to abandon the ride with 10 miles to go due to thunder and lightning! But it wasn't all bad, some amazing hills and a stellar performance from Ben Henshaw who caught us up this morning after starting 45 minutes late and having to employ the services of a local lock Smith to get him going. I'm afraid there was no post ride photo, perhaps we might correct this in the restaurant later!

And don't worry we plan to go back tomorrow and start where we left off today so the full challenge is still in our sights!

Hold on.... we're not moving yet. Ben is having more battery issues! 🤦🏼‍♂️

What an incredible day yesterday. Some great riding, great company, some great scenery and some great food too!
The ride went very well without major incident and all of the boys did incredibly well.
58 miles yesterday.
Less miles today but more hills so it's going to be a difficult one!!
Thanks to everyone so far to all of the support and sponsorship, you have been amazing.

Just a few photos so far

Dear Kind Supporter,

We need your help.

As you may be aware we depart tomorrow on our epic journey across the backbone of this fine nation. Unfortunately, we must let you know that one of our team has admitted defeat before completing a single revolution. He has cried off and in the face of the task ahead and said he is not capable. Put simply he is doing the trip on an e-bike because he has failed to do the training required. He has let you, the kind supporters who have donated over ten thousand pounds to support this cause, down. The person I am talking about is Ben 'Snoop' Henshaw

We would like to propose a solution to this ethical dilemma which we hope would mean that all is forgiven, and everything will again be right in the world.

If Benjamin Snoop completed the first and last hour of the ride in this Cheerleader outfit, then would this be sufficient recompense for his trespass? Please let us know what you think. Don’t let us be judge, jury and executioner. This is a matter for our supporters to decide.

Should Ben wear the cheerleader outfit for the first and last hour of this epic journey?
