Petition launched to save Trent Lock Toilets and other public toilets in the area.
Oh, dear, what can the matter be?
Residents locked out of Trent Lock lavatory.

Forget spending a penny if visiting Trent Lock this Spring, or Summer.
Erewash Borough Council want to close the public toilets at Trent Lock Car Park - despite the toilets being regularly used by residents visiting the area.
The Chair of Sawley Parish Council has criticised the plan by Erewash Borough Council to close the public toilets at Trent Lock and other locations.
Cllr Alan Chewings said;
"these toilets are not only incredibly important to many residents living locally, but are essential to support our local tourism and hospitality businesses.
Many residents visit Trent Lock, including parents with young children & the elderly and those with disabilities.
Parents with young children need ‘nappy changing’ facilities and the elderly & disabled need adapted toilet facilities. The pubs down there are not always open - especially in the mornings.”
Cllr Chewings has now set up a petition urging Erewash to reconsider it’s planned closures.
You can sign the petition here
https://chng.it/PHzd7B9dCZ
Papers show the Erewash plans to close 8 of its public toilets - in the South of Erewash - Long Eaton, Sawley & surrounding area.
Toilets set to close are
Trent Lock, Long Eaton
Long Eaton Railway Station.
Hall Ground, Long Eaton
Victoria Road, Draycott
Victoria Avenue, Borrowash
Longmoor Lane, Sandiacre
Breaston Park, Longmoor Lane
Parish Rooms, Breastson
Only four out of 14 public toilets in Erewash will remain - at Ilkeston Marketplace, Orchard Street in Long Eaton and in Victoria Park and West Park.
Cllr Alan Chewings is urging residents to sign this petition.

Hi everyone. Hope you had a lovely Easter!! We are still working on the tea room - it’s fighting back a bit !! Still revealing its age - drill a hole for a Rawlplug and hey presto all the plaster falls off - so we are a bit behind.
We will be opening towards the end of April. For some reason I cannot access messages on this page sorry. See you all soon xx

25/02/2021

Well we have a date 12th April when we may be able to open. We are not setting a firm date as yet but we are hopeful. We must see how things go over the next few weeks. We will only be able to open outside so the menu will be adjusted so that the weather can’t spoil things. We hope that you will all bear with us whilst we get prepared and keep things safe for everyone. Keep well everyone xx

The history of the lock house is slowly revealing itself. A bit of wallpaper stripping today revealed at least four layers of wallpaper and three or more layers of distemper - plus mine !!
Keep well everyone xx

Latest update :
There has been a lot going on at the Tearoom whilst we have been closed both inside and outside. There is more to do. We hope you will like our changes as and when we are trading again.
With the Covid situation as it is, it doesn’t feel the right time to attempt to reopen so sadly for the first time in 24 years there will be no Christmas meals at the Tearoom this year.
We hope you all keep safe and we can all get through this horrid time.
Hope to see you soon. Terry and the team. 💕💕

Latest update:
In the last weeks we have been assessing the Covid-19 situation carefully with the changing rules and advice given which would allow us to open on 4th July when social distancing was reduced to one metre.
There are additional requirements such as one way systems, staff dedicated to directing customers and taking their details as well as essential cleaning, screening etc, etc,.
Safety is paramount for everyone and despite our best efforts the tearoom is simply not big enough. So this leaves our option of serving outside, but again the same rules apply plus we would need major investment in additional furniture to make it viable.
In addition, the lock house is also my home and as you can appreciate I wish to protect family.
So, sadly at this time it is simply not feasible to open the tearoom. We will keep you informed as we wait and see how the situation progresses. We wish you all well and hope to see you soon.
Best wishes
Terry

05/06/2020

Hi everyone. I hope that you are all keeping well and are coping with these most difficult times.
To update you: we are told that hospitality businesses may be able to open in July but only if the social distancing rules can be applied. I am currently looking at ways in which we may be able to re open in some form but paramount is the safety of my staff and customers. Please bear with us. We hope to see you soon # # # take great care # # #

Time to do some maintenance around the place starting with the garden. Two day spent clearing undergrowth so now to something a bit less energetic !! The dog biscuit jar holder !! Now repaired after the over exuberant spaniel had him. Now ready to be repainted

20/03/2020

Well we tried to carry on, but the decision has been taken out of our hands from tonight we are officially closed. I thank those who supported us from the bottom of my heart, my regulars, those who popped in now and again and the generations of families - I will miss you all. To my team : thank you for your unyielding support and love. We will be back together soon without a doubt, stronger and ready for action. Until we see you all again take great care, be safe and above stay well # #

Re: Coronavirus
We are in a difficult position. As a tearoom whose income is mainly from the sale of drinks and homemade food, we need supplies of ingredients which are dwindling fast - not to mention the dreaded toilet rolls!!
Also, the government’s directive to avoid pubs and restaurants but not to force us to close yet leaves us without financial support.
For the moment we REMAIN OPEN. We have antibacterial hand spray / wipes available and you can of course wash your hands.
Please be sensible - if you have symptoms stay at home. Many of our customers are elderly and come not just to the tearoom but also for the company. We would love that to continue as long as we are able but not at the cost of putting anyone at risk.
Thank you all for your support.

15/03/2020

Beautiful young swan attacked by dogs yesterday rescued this morning. Serious leg injury. Please please keep your dogs on a lead around Trent Lock. Swans have very poor eyesight. This one was chased bitten and then fell down the steps to the lock mouth in a bid to escape.
