St John the Baptist, Carlton & St John the Baptist, Colwick
Your church on Oakdale Road!
One kind parent, of 101 people served this week, returned to us after being initially referred almost a year ago by Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
Her son has, of course, grown out of clothing since coming to the UK and she has thoughtfully brought back the items her son has outgrown ready to be chosen by someone else! Extending the life of each garment even further.
Unfortunately we didn't have as much as we would ideally like to supply her son for the next size up as we are struggling for boys clothing ages 6-7,7-8 and 8-9. If any of the boys in your life are outgrowing any of these sizes please remember Sharewear and help us to continue providing free of charge clothing and reducing clothing waste at the same time.💙💚❤️🧡
👀👀 GREAT NEWS! Thanks to support from Ward Recycling we now have a WARDrobe clothes bank to make clothes donating even easier throughout 5th to 11th June. Please REMEMBER, only donate good quality clothing and footwear that you'd be happy to be seen in yourself or see a member of your family in. Please prioritise where possible MENS CASUAL CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR. This clothing isn't going to Ward, it's coming straight to us to be made immediately available free of charge to people in Notts and surrounding areas who simply can't afford the cost of clothing themselves, and their families for a variety of reasons we'll be highlighting next week. Stay tuned and keep sharing our posts! Ward have contributed the container especially for all those who can't make any of our permanent drop-off times and locations listed on the 'Donate Clothing' page of our website.
WARNING ⚠️ A range of security cameras and systems are covering this container. Any fly-tipping or other crime will be reported to the local authority, with footage and number plates.
Many service users mention they are nervous to attend our referral sessions on their first visit, but our encouraging and empathic team manage to win everyone round.
One returning service user, of 47 assisted today, has now been coming back to us for over a year, whenever her family's clothing needs change. This, however, has not always been the case.
The first few times she obtained clothing from our charity was via her support worker as her anxiety at that time was preventing her from going out much, especially to places she had never been before.
With reassurance from her support worker, and having spoken to two of our team members, we were able to support her in person when she felt able to visit! She has since chosen some amazing clothing for herself and her children, like the outfits pictured here.
We provide a judgement-free and caring atmosphere for those who visit us. We understand the strength it takes to firstly ask for help, and secondly visit the centre. If any of our service users are feeling unsure, all of our team members are more than happy to talk things through ahead of a visit. Anxiety needn't stop you from choosing the clothing you need.
This is true in and every week. 💙💚❤️🧡

We know that the price of food continues to rise and as a result we’ve seen a big decline in donations of coffee and sugar. In fact recently we completely ran out and were only able to offer teabags to those collecting food parcels. The cheapest coffee our volunteers have seen is in Lidl at £1.50 a jar but if you spot any cheaper anywhere else please do let us know.
If you’re able to add one or two items to your shopping this week these are our ‘most wanted’: Coffee, sugar, rice, tinned veg & potatoes, jam and tinned fish.
You can drop off at the Foodbank (the old Methodist church, 88 Carlton Hill, NG4 1EE) Tuesdays & Fridays 11-3pm, or Saturdays 11-1pm. Or you can put items into our collection points at Tesco Carlton, Co-op Westdale Lane (the one at the bottom) or Second Chance charity shop (Carlton Hill)
Do you ❤️ Saturday mornings? Maybe you have a bit of spare time at the weekends that you’d love to put to good use?
Carlton Foodbank & Community Hub is looking for volunteers for our Saturday morning Friendship Group which runs from 11am to 1pm each week. No experience necessary…just the ability to make tea, play bingo and lend a friendly listening ear.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in please get in touch with us via this page or pop down to see us. We are open 12-2.45pm Tuesdays & Fridays and 11-1 on Saturdays.

We love this quote from Desmond Tutu 💙
Every day we see and support families overwhelmed by their circumstances and going through crises.
We are so proud of our amazing volunteers and supporters who help families immediate needs, and also “walk upstream” and help families build resilience and connections that support them in the future 🙋🏾♂️
Sadly, we have taken the decision to postpone our Messy Church / Christingle on the 19th December at St John's Carlton. We know it is a popular service but feel it is too risky to hold before Christmas.
We would love to be able to hold the Christingle and craft properly. We love the fun an interaction of this event which is why we have decided to postpone it till the New Year.
We hope to see you will join us in the New Year for Christingle when hopefully there is less risk.
