Ready to navigate the path to recovery with knowledge and determination?
Patellar Tendinopathy, often referred to as “Jumper’s Knee”
It is an overuse condition of the patellar tendon. This condition is predominantly seen in individuals engaged in sports that demand frequent and intense running and jumping, such as basketball, volleyball, and track and field. These activities subject the tendon to a rapid cycle of stretching and shortening, which, over time, can lead to irritation, inflammation, and pain.
The hallmark symptom of Patellar Tendinopathy is a localised pain at the front of the knee, specifically at or just below the kneecap. Individuals may notice that this discomfort is exacerbated during activities that put additional strain on the knee, such as climbing stairs, squatting, or jumping.
Understanding the signs and management strategies for Patellar Tendinopathy is crucial for athletes and active individuals to maintain their performance and mitigate the risk of further injury

Dive into the world of BFR and transform your rehabilitation experience.
🏃♂️Step Up Your Game by Stepping Up Your Cadence! 🚀 Did you know that increasing your running cadence by just 5-10% can have a massive impact on your running efficiency and injury prevention? Here’s why making this small tweak to your stride can lead to big gains:
Reduced Impact on Joints: Less time on the ground means less stress on your knees, hips, and ankles.
Improved Running Economy: More steps per minute = more efficient use of your energy.
Lower Risk of Overuse Injuries: By avoiding overstriding, you’re less likely to suffer from a runner’s knee, shin splints, and other common ailments.
Enhanced Muscle Engagement: A higher cadence encourages better form and more muscle activation, paving the way for a stronger, more balanced stride.✨
Whether you’re looking to break a personal record or just enjoy your runs more, tweaking your cadence could be the key. Start small, listen to your body, and enjoy the journey to a more efficient, enjoyable running experience.
Ready to revolutionise your run? Lace up, level up your cadence, and feel the difference with every step!

Hi guys,
Building on our previous insights into ITBS, we have explored what ITBS is; now let’s talk strategy. The path to overcoming ITBS involves a tailored blend of activity modification and targeted exercises to strengthen and support the knee. The goal is to recalibrate activity levels without exacerbating pain.
Start with low-impact exercises like low-seat cycling and uphill treadmill walking. As you gain strength, incorporate targeted moves like side-lying hip abductions and resisted clamshells.
Each step is crucial for building resilience without overstepping your current limits. For a detailed plan tailored to your needs, connect with us!
Keep following for more rehab tips and message us anytime to discuss your personal recovery plan.
🏋️♂️💡 Knee Pain Alert: Could It Be ITBS? 🤔 Ever experienced a nagging pain on the outer part of your knee after a long run or intense workout? You might be facing ITBS, or Iliotibial Band Syndrome, a common condition among runners, cyclists, and fitness enthusiasts. But what exactly is ITBS? Current research suggests it’s not just about the band itself, but about what’s happening beneath it. When your knee hits around 30° of flexion during a run – that’s about when your foot strikes the ground – there’s a critical ‘impingement zone’ where tissues are compressed, leading to pain.
Causes: ITBS isn’t just about overdoing it. It’s often a sign of poor training habits, faulty running biomechanics or even muscle imbalances.
Symptoms: The hallmark of ITBS is pain and tenderness just above the knee, on the outer side, that flares up during activity.
🔄 Remember: Listen to your body. ITBS is a signal to reassess and adjust. With proper care, strengthening and training adjustments, you can overcome ITBS and return to your favourite activities pain-free. 💪
“Runners, are you familiar with these common injuries? 🤕 Whether it’s shin splints or IT band syndrome, our Running Injury Clinic is here for you. 📢Thursday 8th February at the Fitness collective West Bridgford there is going to be a drop in clinic with Maya and the Sports rehabilitator students📢
We provide a combined approach of ShockWave Therapy, exercise, and education specific to your condition to help you achieve fast-acting pain relief.
What is ShockWave Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy, also known as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is an innovative, cost-effective, evidence-based medical treatment where low energy acoustic waves are passed through the skin to the injured part of the body. This increases blood flow to the painful area, stimulating healing, and reducing pain. Shockwave has been researched and proven to be safe form of treatment.
Is ShockWave Therapy for me?
Shockwave Therapy works well to help stubborn conditions that do not respond to physiotherapy treatment alone. As Shockwave Therapy is a drug-free, non-invassive form of therapy, this makes it suitable for many different clients.
Our Services
We use Shockwave Therapy in conjunction with exercise and education to answer your pain problems. Shockwave Therapy is a scientifically prove and evidence-based intervention which has been approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) who recommend treatments supported by substantial research. You can read more about their guidelines here.
Why Choose Nottingham Physio?
We are a well established Physiotherapy Clinic based in the heart of Nottingham & have been delivering Therapeutic Shockwave for many years.
We have a number of experienced clinicians who hold Bachelor degrees in Physiotherapy, Sport Rehabilitation, Sport Therapy & Sport Science as well as Masters degrees in Sport & Exercise Medicine & Advanced Physiotherapy.
We place a big emphasis on a multidisciplinary & holistic treatment approach & carry out weekly meetings where we review our patient’s cases to ensure that we are providing the best possible treatment.
Our practitioners have a wealth of experience, an extensive knowledge of Functional Anatomy & a deep understanding of how to manage musculoskeletal injuries and stubborn pain conditions.
We started the Nottingham Running Clinic because we love running & we want to share our experience & passion to help those who also love to run but can’t run at the moment due to pain and injury.
Running Related Injuries:
We have a deep appreciation for the many physiological & psychological health benefits associated with running. However, we also are acutely aware that running is not without it’s inherent risks as the incidence & prevalence of running-related injuries (RRIs) is high whether you’re an elite runner logging 50+ miles per week or you are training for your first parkrun: WE ARE ALL AT RISK OF RRIs!!!
The Bottom Line:
We’re not here to sell you the latest “run faster trainer or injury prevention foot orthosis” and we don’t claim to have the “secret, hidden formula that will transform you into a sub 2 hour marathon runner.
Here at Nottingham Physio we just simply love running and we want to help as many runners as possible with our knowledge & passion for running to inspire, motivate, and help you achieve your running goals.

Tendon Injuries in Climbing :
Tendon injuries often stem from sudden increases in intensity. While tendons possess remarkable adaptability to loading and require stress for optimum health, repeatedly subjecting them to training beyond their load tolerance, coupled with insufficient recovery, can lead to overuse injuries. In climbing, the fingers, elbows, and shoulders are particularly susceptible.
Listen to Your Body:
Early warning signs of an impending tendon issue may manifest as pain and stiffness that initially go unnoticed during climbing but become apparent a few hours after your session or the following morning. Ignoring these initial signals can escalate into pain during and after climbing, eventually impacting daily activities. By attentively heeding your body's signals and adjusting your training early on, you can potentially sidestep enduring pain associated with such injuries.
Progressive Overload is Key:
Resist the urge to push your limits. Gradual progression enables your tendons to acclimate to the demands of climbing. Listen to your body and afford it the time required for strengthening. It's crucial to recognize that strength development isn't confined to the climbing wall; initiating a bodyweight home-based program at the outset of your journey is beneficial. As you advance, incorporating progressive overload and transitioning to gym-based training can contribute to your climbing longevity.
Warm-Up and Stretching:
A proper warm-up is imperative before tackling the climbing wall. Additionally, don't overlook the importance of cooling down after your session to facilitate recovery.
Recovery:
Diversify your training routine and schedule dedicated breaks from climbing. Sufficient rest is equally vital for your body to recuperate, repair, and adapt to your training. Balancing active periods with rest ensures your climbing journey remains sustainable and injury-free.

Achilles Tendinopathy is a common condition, characterised by pain and tenderness on the achilles tendon. People complain of pain on weight-bearing and aggravated by certain activities. Achilles Tendinopathy can either be insertional around the heel bone or mid-portion around the middle of the achilles tendon.
Listed above are some of the most common symptoms and popular treatments.
The National Institute of Care and Excellence (NICE) set guidelines for the management of conditions treated by healthcare professionals in the UK.
