We have been made aware of an increase of a confirmed cases of scarlet fever in the Oldham area and would ask our families to be aware of the the signs and symptoms.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scarlet-fever/
Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness but can be serious if left untreated. It's highly contagious and mostly affects young children. If you think you or your child has symptoms, contact your GP practice.
Our pupils are able to return to school 24 hours after they have received treatment but it is important to update your child's school if your child has been diagnosed with this illness.

Some after care information for our year 9 pupils who may have received their vaccinations today or at the upcoming sessions -
The school leaver boosters may vaccines may cause some minor and temporary side effects in some patients immediately after the injection.
Common immediate side effects of the vaccinations can include -
Redness, swelling, or bruising at the site of the injection
Headache
Fever
Dizziness
Nausea
Mild pain in the arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, or toes
Mild muscle and joint pain
The most common side effect is a sore arm – the area around the site of the injection may turn red and feel sore after your child’s vaccination, which can last for up to 2 days. The best thing to do to treat a sore arm is to keep using your arm and try to ignore the pain, as increasing circulation to the area can help you recover more quickly. You can also take over the counter painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, or apply a cold compress to the area to reduce the soreness. If the pain lasts for more than 2 days, you should consult with your GP.
Your child may also develop a mild fever – some people develop a fever shortly after being vaccinated, as your body starts to produce antibodies to protect you from infection. The best thing to do to manage a fever is to keep yourself cool, make sure you drink plenty of fluids, and try to get some rest so your body has time to recover. You should get in contact with your GP if your fever lasts for more than 3 days.
Many thanks The special school nursing team

Here are some facts about Autism -

🌈 More males than females have Autism
🧩The Autism Spectrum is not linear - meaning it doesn't progress smoothly or is laid out in a straight line*
🌈 People with Autism usually struggle to read social "signs" for feelings etc and can struggle to express their own
🧩Many people with Autism have highly focussed hobbies and interests, mainly from a young age
🌈 More than 1 in 100 people are on the Autistic Spectrum in the UK and there are currently over 700,000 people with Autism; children and adults, in the UK
🧩 Many famous people have Autism, such as Elon Musk, Eminem, Dan Akroyd, Tim Burton, Emily Dickinson, Bill Gates, Albert Einstein, Stephen Spielberg and Jane Austen Anthony Hopkins to name a few

The special school nursing team are supporting World Down Syndrome Day
It’s celebrated on the 21st March - This is significant because there are 3 copies of the 21st chromosome in Trisomy 21, (the medical term for Down syndrome)
The day marks awareness about the common genetic disorder that estimates between 1 in 1,000 births affecting approximately 3,000 to 5,000 born worldwide each year. Down syndrome is a genetic disorder in which there is an extra chromosome
🧦We hope our pupils and our colleagues have enjoyed rocking their socks at our special schools today !!🧦
