Inspired today by the words of Theodore Roosevelt✨

🔸I am currently writing training material for a new up and coming project I am working on launching in the autumn 🍂. A big theme is resilience.

🔹RESILIENCE what is it?
Resilience refers to our ability to cope with difficult situations, often described as the “bounce-back” factor.

🔹Why is it important for mental health?
Resilience helps us to recover quickly from adversity, giving us control over our emotional well-being. Facing difficult and mentally challenging situations supports neuroplasticity. Growth and learning are accomplished as a result, equipping us with increased resilience.

🔹Can we develop resilience skills?
Absolutely, it can be done quickly and easily with knowledge, support, and practice.

🔹Why do I prioritise resilience development in mental health coaching?
Resilience varies from person to person and plays a crucial role in facing unique challenges. Therefore, understanding the threshold of your current bounce-back factor is important for progression. It is essential to manage mental and emotional well-being in times of acute and chronic stress. Prioritizing mental health helps individuals successfully regulate their emotions, develop problem-solving skills, build self-belief, and practice self-compassion.

🔹Intense & uncomfortable, a panic attack is very scary. Often they occur without warning and tend to be a reaction to overwhelming stress within the body & mind.
Minimising overall stress levels will be supportive towards prevention.

🔸Techniques in the event of an attack:

* Focus on your breathing.

Square Breathing & Belly Breathing are fantastic techniques.
If you practice a breathing techniques regularly then you are in the commanding seat - your mind and body will respond to what they know!

Focus on breathing helps us to divert concentrate elsewhere also.

* Stamp on the spot.
Some people find this helps control their breathing, diverting energy and concentration elsewhere.

* Focus on your senses.
For example, taste mint-flavoured sweets or gum, or touch or cuddle something soft.

* Try the 333 technique. See 3 things Hear 3 things Touch 3 things or move 3 things.

* Try grounding techniques. Grounding techniques can help you feel more in control.
Grounding techniques range from taking a shower to feeling the earth with your bare feet.

Inspired by today. My favourite topic Anxiety!
🔸Clients with anxiety often tell me that they dread bedtime because that’s when they are consumed with random thoughts and irrational worries.

✨Welcome to the wonderful world of living with unmanaged anxiety.✨

🔸Before we start working on the anxiety itself, it’s essential to get the basics right. Sleep is an important element in maintaining balance in emotional health and therefore, an essential focus in mental health coaching. I plan with insight from my clients, how they are going to achieve a positive change and establish a supportive structure for bedtime within their plan.

🔹A good night’s sleep is one of the most important and underrated activities for maintaining good health. It makes you more productive, boosts your mood, and strengthens your immune system.
During sleep, your brain consolidates memories and learnings, as well as repairs and creates new cells that are crucial for brain function and memory.

Remember, it’s not just about the number of hours you sleep; quality matters too.

✔️

Try the 10:3:2:1 rule for 2 weeks.

- No caffeine 10 hours before bedtime.
- 3 hours before bed: No heavy meals.
- 2 hours before bed: No work or administrative tasks.
- 1 hour before bed: No screens

✨ My one and only mantra ✨

10/05/2024

Inspired by today!

✨What you are thinking is not reality:

🔹As much as it feels like anxiety controls you, anxiety is not reality.

✨You control your reality.

🔹It’s important to remember that social anxiety feeds on thoughts that emphasise negativity and potential danger.
✨Your subconscious has only positive intentions for you.

🔹Although when we experience symptoms such as a fast heartbeat, dizziness & detachment sensations, it doesn’t feel like this is a positive intention emerging from the depths of our minds.

✨That is because our ‘alarm’ system is overreacting.

🔹Ultimately our subconscious is trying to warn us (the positive intention). In the filing cabinet of your mind are stored memories of uncomfortable experiences from the past and these connections are often made without us even realising. Your mind demands your body to react, the power of intrusive thoughts and physical distress convinces us it is safer to avoid similar social threats, ultimately to protect us.

🔸Luckily thinking is a habit and can, of course, be changed. The cure isn’t just positive thinking but realistic thinking. In sessions with clients, this is where I coach individuals through conscious, ‘healthier forming’ habits. And through the power of reframing & NLP, we can retrain our bodies to physically respond more calmly and naturally, closer to what we likely would consider ‘normal’.

🔹These are my words.
They are also the words of many friends, colleagues & acquaintances who have shared the plight of having a close and very intrusive fiend called Anxiety in their lives.

🔹Most significantly and importantly are the views of my clients. Over the past 13 months Anxiety has been the no.1 issue people have sought support for via the clinic.

✨ After 8 weeks of therapeutic coaching, clients expressed they were back in control and successful in their battle against Anxiety…..
4 years later, I too am so much freer as the new me.
I am changed and I am proud of the moves I made to achieve everything I have today. I am certainly winning without my old friend Anxiety✨

🔸Some ways to manage anxiety disorders:

Learn about your Anxiety type and its characteristics.
Practice mindfulness & relaxation techniques.
Learn breathing techniques & their powerful physiological effects.
Consider dietary adjustments.
Exercise.
Learn to be assertive.
Work on your self-esteem & understand the true meaning of self-worth.
Apply conscious reframing techniques.

And, be open to investing in therapeutic coaching with an expert, after all, you can not put a price on your emotional health and mental wellbeing.

✨Be a winner, don’t be held back from your true potential!✨

✨Just listening. . .✨
🔹Today I have been inspired by

🔹 Listening to someone who may be struggling or simply needs to get something off their chest can be very rewarding not only for the person you are supporting, but also for you. By listening, you can help them process their thoughts and emotions, allowing them to make sense of things, feel acknowledged and validated. It also shows that you care and builds a bond between you both.

 🔸In the past, I used to feel anxious as I listened to somebody I cared about, because I thought It was my job to find the solution to fix their discomfort. However, through experience as a friend, colleague, and now a mental health nurse and coach, I have learned to simply listen without trying to provide answers. This has allowed me to be present and supportive in the moment, and fulfil their basic need, of being heard in that very moment.

In a nutshell:
✨The spotlight is on the individual who needs to be listened to.
✨Remain calm, lowering the energy in the room will be crucial to the person’s wellbeing around the issue.
✨Remember, we don’t need to agree or disagree. We are not responsible for providing answers or fixing the issue.
✨Simply embrace the compassion you are feeling for the person and the rest will follow.

🔹When we take deep breaths, signals are sent to our brains, telling us to calm down and relax. These messages are translated throughout our bodies, reducing tension and relieving stress when we are anxious or feel overwhelmed.

🔹It is common to have an increased heart rate, rapid breathing, and high blood pressure when we feel stressed. The practice of deep breathing decreases these symptoms, helping us to calm our minds and bodies.

🔸learning a simple breathing technique can make all the difference to a moment, a situation, or the rest of your day.

🔸before each NLP or Hypnosis session with clients we always start with deep breathing to signal to start of the therapy hour.

✨try diaphragm breathing for a couple minutes when you need a mental break daily✨

🔹Today I have been inspired by .sg beautiful depiction of anxiety as the monster in our minds!

‘Your anxiety is keeping you safe.’

‘Your subconscious only has positive intentions for you.’

By session 4 they are feeling the power shift.
By session 8 they are teaching me!

🦋 I’m pretty sure these were the words of Nora Walker in Brothers & Sisters final ever episode in 2011. Delivered by the spectacular , this phrase never left my mind for years and years.

(I am shocked it was soooo long ago though! 13 years 😯! I must have been peculating the concept for quite some time 😆)

🔹Today I have been inspired by this digiart picture (DM for credit).

🔹It’s good to rest when things are overwhelming. But be mindful, stress and anxiety have such a good instinct of when it’s the best time to corner you.

✨Are you resting or are you hiding?✨

🔸resting = 👌
🔸hiding, avoiding, withdrawing = 🛝

🔸 When I work with clients we often explore their cognitive thinking cycle in session 1. Once you can recognise factors such as:

What you believe about the world
The thoughts you have about yourself
And how those beliefs affect your behaviours

You are in the starting position to make valuable changes to your behaviour for a stronger mindset and approach to life and it’s craziness!

🔸 We speak openly in our home about our behaviours and mind challenges - so even if you just check in with a family member to see what they think about your ‘resting’ …. It could be the start of your transformational journey to change! 😉

It's been a while since I shared an Action for Happiness Calendar, mostly just because I forget that not everyone knows they exist! They are free, available in lots of languages, and come out each month with bite-sized daily activities and prompts for improving your wellbeing.

This month the theme is ACTIVE APRIL with a big focus on physical health. What's that got to do with mental health and wellbeing? I'm glad you asked:

Prioritizing physical wellbeing through regular exercise, a balanced diet, and attentive care of the body is essential for fostering good mental health and overall wellbeing. Scientific research consistently demonstrates the interconnectedness of the body and mind, highlighting how physical activity releases endorphins, neurotransmitters that promote feelings of happiness and reduce stress.

A nutritious diet rich in essential nutrients provides the fuel necessary for optimal brain function, enhancing mood stability and cognitive performance. Moreover, practicing self-care by attending to physical needs fosters a sense of self-worth and confidence, nurturing a positive self-image and resilience in the face of life's challenges. Ultimately, investing in physical wellbeing lays a solid foundation for holistic health, empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives marked by vitality, resilience, and emotional equilibrium.

🔹 Today I have been inspired by work. Possibly because worrying is my favourite hobby 🤔😓❗️

✨Are you a worry wart?✨

🔹The majority of the time we worry as a way to feel prepared for negative outcomes.

🔹We all worry, and it’s completely normal until it’s affecting your everyday emotional functioning and physical health.

🔹Over exposure to worry, causing stress, once excessive, triggers your cortisol levels (aka the stress hormone) to rise.
When stressors are always present and you always feel under attack, that fight-or-flight reaction stays turned on putting you at higher risk of many health problems, including:
* Anxiety.
* Depression.
* Digestive problems.
* Headaches.
* Muscle tension and pain.
* Heart disease, heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke.
* Sleep problems.
* Weight gain.
* Problems with memory and focus.

🔸That is why it’s so important to learn healthy ways to cope with your life stressors.

🔸So remember, a little worry here and there is normal but if you think it’s all getting too much then it probably is, but there are lots of quick fixes and free information from the STILL MIND clinic ✨

04/04/2024

🔹Today I have been inspired by The Boy, The Mole The Fox & The Horse, by Charlie Mackesy.

✨ Kindness Wins ✨

🔸According to research explored in a
article, Kindness can increase happiness and self-esteem, while decreasing stress and emotional reactivity!

🔸And If you’ve ever wondered why some people refuse you Kindness, ‘’it’s simply a direct reflection of how they feel about themselves.” ~Paulo Coelho

✨ therefore fight the good fight with double kindness …..
And remember there is always time to Grow Up and Be Kind ✨
