šāļøMerry Christmas from all at Love Lydgate āļøš
The Festive Brass evening at the Oak room in the White Hart on Tuesday 19th December proved to be a resounding success! The room was filled with families and friends who had gatherered to enjoy the music from Lydgate band, who entertained them non-stop with a selection of Carols and Christmas songs to sing along to. Audience participation was required at all times, resulting in much hilarity, especially during the German Snow Waltz. The evening ended with the 12 Days of Christmas where each table had their very own part to sing!
The Love Lydgate raffle raised over Ā£400 which was donated to Lydgate Band. Hot mince pies and roasted chestnuts were served by Charles and the White Hart staff. Charles summed up the evening perfectly by saying it had been wonderful way to bring the community together and a great start to the Christmas festivities.
Hereās another date for your diary. Festive brass will be at the white hart on Tuesday 19th at 7:30. It should be a really good evening. Hope to see you there ššŗ
Thank you to everyone who made the Christmas lights switch on earlier this week such a success. Weāve had really positive feedback from everyone who attended and we raised Ā£170 for Oldham Food Bank.
Everyone seemed to agree that the change of location was so much better. It was lovely to be able to actually see and hear the school choir.
Thank you to the Rotary and Tesco for contributing towards the cost of the event.
We had 16 Selection Boxes left and these have gone to a Domestic Abuse Refuge in Ashton via Rotary who support them on a regular basis.
We hope the event gave our community a happy start to Christmas whilst spreading some Christmas joy to others less lucky.
Donāt forget the Christmas lights switch on this coming Tuesday at 6:15.
Donāt forget to bring cash if youād like to see santa or partake in the mulled wine š
š
Have you seen the new raised bed that has been replaced and the new lydgate sign? Itās certainly looking good.
It is sited next to the bus stop at the crossroads, and the original box was rotten and needed replacing.
The team of Brian Wilcox , Kath, Jack Ryder and Lesley kindly put in the hard work of demolishing, rebuilding, replanting and new sign mounting. So, our thanks go to them.
Itās less than 2 weeks to the Christmas lights switch on. Where has the year gone?
This year itās on Tuesday 5 December starting at 6pm with mulled wine, mince pies, Christmas songs and Father Christmas in the pavilion at the white hart.
There will be a charge of Ā£5 to see FC with all money raised going to oldham food bank.
Hope to see you there.
We have an announcement from the family of Linda McLaughlin
āWe would like to announce the details for mums funeral. Her service will be held on Monday 27th November at 3pm, at Oldham Crematorium, Hollinwood Cemetery, Roman Road, Oldham, OL8 3LU.
This will be followed by a celebration of her life to be held at The White Hart Inn, Stockport Road, Lydgate OL4 4JJ.
Mum was very specific that she didnāt want a wake, she wanted a celebration to remember her life. As you all know mum was the life and soul at parties so there's no better way for us to remember her than by having a big party. We would love as many people to join us if you can, and please feel free to invite anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
One last demand (sorry, request!) from mam was to make the day as colourful as possible, so we are asking for bright and beautiful clothing just like her! We understand that some may feel uncomfortable in doing this and completely respect your decision.
If you could please let us know by commenting on this post if you are able to attend so we can get an idea of numbers.
We request Family Flowers only please, If you would like to make a donation in Mums name to a Pulmonary Fibrosis or Leukaemia charity of your choosing please feel free to do so.
Mum has friends and family all over the world so we have organised an online stream of her service for those who canāt attend. The details will be posted as soon as we have them.
Many thanks for everyoneās kind words so far and we hope to see as many of you as possible on the day. ā
With love Seth, Shem, Christi and family xx
Anyone fancy joining this workshop on 8th December? Sophie came and did a felting workshop a while ago with the Lydgate stitchers which was brilliant!
For Ā£45 you can learn the wonderful craft of peg loom weaving and make a seat pad, pet mat or wall hanging to take home with you!
This workshop will be held at Station Brew cafe in the cosy back room. With coffee, tea, mulled wine and amazing cake included, this is the perfect way to enjoy a festive get together with friends, while learning a new skill. Or come along yourself, learn more about wool, and get absorbed in this therapeutic weaving technique.
We will weave with wool from sheep that roam in fields within a couple of miles of the cafe!
As always, the village paid their respects on Remembrance Sunday.
Rev Pat did an outdoor service before the laying of the wreaths by the guides and scouts. Ian Merckel representing LoveLydgate and Clllr Max Woodvine laid a wreath on behalf of OMBC.
About fifty villagers gathered outside along with lydgate larks who sang. The last post was played by a member of the Lydgate Band.
Thank you to everyone involved.
Just to confirm the details for Remembrance Day this coming Sunday. The remembrance event will be at 10:45am outside our church. All are welcome to join the service in the church afterwards.
Hope to see you there.
The Lovelydgate lunch was a great success on Sunday. We hope you enjoyed it if you were able to join us.
We raised about Ā£600 in total for love lydgate funds. Lydgate band played at the beginning to get people in the mood. Lydgate larks sang three numbers after the end of the meal. Martyn Torr did an excellent job hosting with games, quiz and funny repertoire as always. Kindly traveling over from his home in Portugal, to perform his annual duties for Love Lydgate.
The annual raffle consisting of approximately 30 prizes consisting of donated gifts including one from Face &Body at Grotton and one from the White Hart for dinner for two.
A wonderful, fun afternoon with 99 guests who enjoyed the music , entertainment and catching up socially whist being served a lovely three course meal in stunning surroundings in The Oak Room.
Donāt forget we have the quiz on Monday at 2:30pm in the parish hall. Itāll be good fun Iām sure and donāt forget the cake and a brew too.
The autumn flowers have arrived so we can revive the plant holders around the village (which are currently looking a bit sad!!).
Could you spare some time weekdays either this week or next? If so, either comment on this message or contact Lesley on 07429478671
It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sad passing of our beloved Treasurer Margaret Merckel. Margaret had been our Treasurer, friend, neighbour and Matriarch since our humble beginning some fourteen years ago.
Margaret had many qualities in addition to her accurate and disciplined accounting skills. She was a master baker creating stunning bread, jams and cakes, which adorned our cake stalls and afternoon teas.
Margaret also had a wealth of local history knowledge. Born into a Lydgate farming family she was always happy to guide and inform anyone interested to learn more.
Margaret leaves a large, very close knit family, husband Ian, children and grandchildren, who live in various parts of the country. Our support, sympathy and condolences are extended to all her family and friends.
Margaret leaves a huge gap in our community and will always be fondly remembered for her no nonsense ways, sense of humour and love of where she lived.
Funeral arrangements are :-
Service and burial 31st October 2023, 11am at St Anneās Church, Lydgate.
Family flowers only but donations would be welcomed in aid of Dr Kershawās Hospice.
Please come and join us to say thank you and offer our respect and support for Margaret and all her lovely family.
The next talk isnāt a talk at all!! Weāve decided to mix it up a bit and have a quiz. Itāll be at the parish hall on Monday 6 nov at 2:30pm. Do come along (even if youāre rubbish at quizās, like me) - Iām sure itāll be great fun and a chance to catch up with people over a coffee/tea and cake.
As usual we just ask for a Ā£4 donation.
Donāt forget to buy your ticket for the Lovelydgate lunch by this Sunday (from the white hart), if possible.
Hope to see you there on the 29th October
Would anyone like to donate a prize for the raffle at the Lovelydgate lunch on 29 oct? Bottles/chocs/biscuits etc etc would all be gratefully received. If so, either drop them off with Lesley at the coach house Stockport Road or you could bring them along on the day. If youāre going to bring them on the day weād appreciate it if you could let us know in advance (no need to say what it is), but it gives us an idea of how many prizes we have.
Many thanks
