Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024 | Muddy Stilettos I nominated my favourite business in the Muddy Awards 2024!

We have a few new wines on the shelves, one of them a South African Chenin Blanc blend from an old Rooibos tea plantation.

Hand picked, naturally fermented and finessed in old oak.

Aromas of ripe citrus and peach with savoury, gently nutty notes. The palate has firm, high-key fruit, a gentle, sandy texture true to the vineyard soil and persistence.

Intense ruby red in colour. On the nose, there are vibrant aromas of red fruits and floral nuances - courtesy of the Touriga Nacional, On the palate, it is well-balanced, with smooth tannins and a lively, refreshing acidity. A perfect food wine with excellent structure and a lingering finish.

If you are or know any Pinot Grigio “people”this could be the right festive wine for you.

Why we love it?

Lunaria Pinot Grigio Pet Nat Brut is produced from organically grown grapes, biodynamic and vegan certified.

Aromas and flavours of strawberries, ripe pear and apples. Lees contact creates complexity and aromatic intensity.

Remember that lovely Dão we had on tap, that nobody can pronounce 😂?

A densely structured, mature wine with juicy dark fruits and firm tannins with a peppery edge.

Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé!
Red wine made from Gamay grapes, it is a vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks before being released on the third Thursday of November. And that is today!

I had a glass recently in another wine bar in Oxford and I just remembered how much I love it!
This is our Priorat, available among 200 other bottles of wines from all over the world.
BTW tomorrow we are changing 2 wines in the Enomatic, one orange and one red. Surprise!

I love when Oli brings new wines on delivery days.

This week we have these Heavens House Party wines.

Pet nat, awesome fruit including nectarines, intense dried apricots and aromatic lychee on the nouse and nectarines, peaches and white strawberries on the mouth 😋
Plus Angostura Bitters perch on the palate and the flavour of Turkish Delight. It’s funky!

Heaven’s House Party Animal #2 : made by 100% whole bunch carbonnique maceration which creates lifted fruit aromatics.
The fruit is bright, sweet and crunchy with tinges of tannin from ripe stalks. So ready to drink!

New in the shop!

The 2021 Creative Batch (v2.0) is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Fernao Pires, Roussanne, Verdelho and Viognier, all treated differently to honour each variety’s individual potential as a wine.

It is bright and lively with concentrated fruit and a pithy finish that demands another dip. True to the vintage; it is notably fresher than the 2020 and will easily outlive its predecessor!

The first aromas to leap from the glass are intensely citrusy and give way to delicacies of ginger and clove. The palate is waxy yet grippy with a leesy weight and incredibly fine tannins that perfectly poise a tangy, tropical finish.

1) How about a virtual walk on the moon with Space Store? Oh yes you can do this in the Covered Market - and in a space suite too if you choose!

2) We now have three bars selling craft beers including the excellent tasting flights at Teardrop Barzinho, and wine tasting flights at The Market Cellar Door. Gulp Fiction also stock a range of beers as well as other beverages. Plus we've the latest bar to join us The Market Tap by Tap Social Movement. With all these fantastic bars you did you know you can bring your own food to them from around the market. It's quite literally a taste sensation! Cheesy for us to say but couldn't resist - ooo and and don't forget Oxford Cheese Company Ltd You can order a cheese platter delivered to your table at any one of these bars!

3) It’s not all about beer – the traders above have other options too, and we have an incredible selection of places to enjoy other drinks ranging from traditional tea with a tasty fry up at Brown's Cafe, artisan coffee from Colombia Coffee Roasters, and then right through to milkshakes and smoothies from Moo Moo’s Milkshakes. Or dine in at any number of cafes and takeaways representing cuisine from all around the world, at all kinds of prices.

4) Does your Dad know we have an upstairs? Maybe impress Dad with your razor-sharp knowledge of your local market, and try Georgina’s traditional homemade Greek food café - it's entirely upstairs. Or try upstairs at Gulp Fiction where you can have some quality catch-up time and your Dad could also choose a book for his present.
