It is Week Four of the Summer Festival of Delights✨ and the focus is on the Bookish.  Almost everything I make is wordy, but this is a collection of designs made for those of us who spend a large portion of our lives sweating over the keyboard (or maybe you’re lucky enough to be passionate about reading and not feel the calling to write!)
 
All modelled by Eliza, who is studying Creative Writing at Leeds, and is about to have her first story published in Stand 😊.

This one popped in my head fully formed after spending a weekend at Nozstock Festival. The combination of the twittish use of woke as an insult - when it stands for general kindness and awareness and that 90s smiley face made sense to me. It’s a vibe to be woke, something to own.

Maybe smiling back is the answer, it usually is, though this week I am struggling to know what to do to help … the media and politicians in this country have so much to answer for. They are intent on dividing us and I keep reminding myself that these idiots are in the amplified minority - there are so many good people.

Can you imagine if the Tories were OUT OUT? If we had an opposition that pushed for rejoining the EU? If there were normal people on both sides of govt? It can happen. I am voting tactically today to try to help make it happen!

One more sleep - and then one impossible to go to sleep… exhausted from rage and hope. Really really really want to see a Lib Dem opposition - let’s do this thing!!!!

This was the first ever necklace I made. I designed it in late 2016 in response to the awful orange small-handed man becoming president. I am half American, and I felt in that year that both of my countries were spiralling down a dark hole. Suddenly jewellery wasn't about looking pretty - I wanted to wear a necklace that said Resist, and I couldn't find one anywhere.

And now we are back here again. The news has made me feel sick to my stomach. I can't bear to look at his disgusting face and the venom and hate he represents, and I'm incredibly sad that the Democrats are so ill-prepared to fight him. This should be an easy win. He led a violent insurrection attacking the fabric of his own democracy. He has loaded the Supreme Court with minions and they are dismantling years of progress, especially in regards to women. Honestly, I felt like crying, or throwing up after seeing clips of the debate. But we have to keep strong, keep faith in all the good people doing good things and we have to keep resisting this awful and worldwide rise in fascism.

For Refugee Week, here is another design from The Courage Collection. This necklace with an etched 'Hold Fast' anchor is one of my all-time favs.

I love what Brené Brown says about courage - the root of the word 'cor' is Latin for heart. In its earliest form it meant "To speak one's mind by telling all one's heart." Rather than the more masculine ideas of bravery in war that it has come to be associated with, at it's heart (see what I've done) courage encapsulates a sense of being vulnerable and speaking openly about our experiences.

This collection supports Women for Refugee Women and is modelled here by a member. What I love about this charity is how they help members to tell their own stories, through drama, singing, poetry, and it's through sharing these stories that connections are made between the women but also with the outside world. There are very few people who would still spout 'stop the boats' nonsense if they heard first-hand what someone had actually lived through.

It's Refugee Week, though you wouldn't know this from the news. It has been a constant bombardment of scare mongering about boats and empty promises of '0 migration.' I designed the Courage Collection as a testament to the courage shown by those who come to this country seeking safety and a better life. The words on this pendant are taken from a Kindness Meditation. Every human, and no human is illegal, has a right to safety.

£2 from everything in The Courage Collection goes to Women for Refugee Women – an incredible charity making a real difference not only to individual women's lives, but in challenging the policies of this government. Women who were incarcerated to be sent to Rwanda, have only just been released. Refugees are still imprisoned when seeking asylum is not illegal.

I really really really try to be Zen about things and not 'other' people or look down on people, but today I have been mainly asking, 'how fkn stupid can you be to vote for Reform led by that utter nob?' Cannot believe how high they are polling.

Just a friendly reminder to get out there and VOTE. Though if you're reading this, you probably don't need it. I'm trying to convince my kids' friends to get on it! Actually stunned by how many youngies say they aren't voting ...

What is going on. This is why I support tactical voting to ensure this awful minority of bigots don't gain any sort of meaningful control.

Feels like we are all holding fast through this mad build up to the election. The Conservatives are doing a great job of revealing who they really are, only to be out-arseholed by Reform ... and now we have to watch them clambering to be the most awful.

It is truly deplorable attacking and blaming people seeking refuge in this country for the state it is in, when this government has systematically stolen from us and paid themselves and their friends insane amounts of money, while defunding the NHS and any other public services they can get their hands on. Bring on the election.
