Oxfordshire Youth
A non-profit organisation created to meet the needs and aspirations of young people
Oxfordshire Youth was created to ensure that all young people are empowered, feel respected and know that they are valued. We pride ourselves on being innovative, trustworthy, reflective, inclusive, self nurturing, ambitious. Our objectives are:
* To be the leading voice of the youth sector across Oxfordshire
* To anticipate and respond to the changing needs of young people and the youth sector
*
Today is ***dePreventionDay and recently CALM launched their campaign.
Over the last ten years in the UK, 6929 young people have ended their lives. Like many youth organisations, we want to see an end to youth su***de. This is going to take collaboration, compassion and support. We believe in a world where every young person has the skills, support, and connections they need to thrive.
All young lives are worth living and are worthy of being protected. If you are a young person and you need support, here are some useful helplines:

Today is International Youth Day and we are proud to support a wonderful grassroots campaign, .
The award-winning youth and survivor-led campaign, made up of five young people, is calling on the government to extend RSHE (Relationships, s*x, and health education) to Key Stage 5 (KS5) with a specific focus on Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control.
Make it Mandatory was founded in 2022 by survivor of domestic abuse and Cambridge University student, Faustine Petron. Given that RSE is not mandatory beyond Year 11, a crucial opportunity is missed to equip our young people with the knowledge and skills they need to form healthy relationships and recognise abusive behaviours. This is the reason for their campaign.
Over the last two years, Make it Mandatory has spoken at our Youth in Mind Conference 2023 and most recently delivered a workshop at the 2024 conference exploring the digital dilemma, and how to navigate domestic abuse through the digital world.
We are also proud to support the open letter they will send to the Department of Education on 22nd August – GCSE results day. This open letter urges the government to urgently extend RSE to KS5 to ensure that all young people have the best start into adulthood. This letter also has garnered support from their longstanding supporter, . Furthermore, this would build on the early foundations provided through mandatory RSHE across primary and secondary phases. Make it Mandatory believe this would add to the contribution that RSE makes as an effective preventative strategy in the fight against the epidemic that is VAWG and toxic masculinity.
If you haven’t already, discover more about Make It Mandatory by signing their petition which has over 95K signatures, and by following them on Instagram and Linkedin.
If you are a youth organisation that cares about the safety of all young people and the reduction of VAWG, we would encourage you to get in contact with Make it Mandatory to sign their open letter. The deadline for signatures is the 19th of August.

If you believe passionately in the potential of all young people, the Positive Activities Youth Worker role is for you!
You will be able to actively listen and respond to the needs, dreams, and ideas young people bring. For some young people, the weekends can be a time of uncertainty which can lead to engaging in higher levels of risk-taking. So having a safe supporting adult will be extremely beneficial: https://ow.ly/keIC50SS9YY

Over the last couple of months, our Youth-Led Content Creator has been working with the amazing team at Know Your Worth to create some content for our series. They are an organisation that works to empower young women to take up space anywhere they are!
On 30th July, Kieran Bird and the British Men's 4 x 200 freestyle relay team won gold.
He started from humble beginnings at the Bicester Blue Fins swimming club after winning a swimming gala with his local Cubs group.
He expressed, "Every high-level athlete has a story that starts at a grassroots foundation and an individual can only flourish when these are supported."
It is so important that we continue to support local youth clubs and sports initiatives so that young people can realise their dreams, whether it is to progress in the sport they play or to represent their country just like Kieran.
For many, this weekend has been tough to witness. First and foremost, we would like to express our sincere sympathies to the families of Bebe, Elsie, and Alice, as well as the community in Southport, whose lives have been dominated by hate crimes motivated by racism, xenophobia, and anti-Muslim sentiment. The depth of the misery and suffering this has inflicted on so many people is difficult to fathom.
It is important to recognize the epidemic of violence against women and girls that continues to worsen, resulting in the deaths of three young girls and injuries to ten more. There has been serious fallout from the horrifying incidents that were witnessed outside hotels, on the streets, and at places of worship.
Crime, violence, and acts of segregation are never the solution. Oxfordshire Youth works hard to ensure every young person has the skills, support and connections to thrive. However, this cannot happen when individuals are afraid for their safety because of their skin colour, their immigration history, or their religious beliefs.
Our employees, young people, and partners stand together to say no to violence, racism, xenophobia, hostility towards religions, and segregation.
This week was the launch of the Blenheim Arts Project 2024. This time it is in collaboration with the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum where the trail of Totems begins. The totems are covered in artwork from young people from across the county. Start here to see what is unveiled on the trail! Blenheim Palace
Sir Mo Farah once said, 'Don’t dream of winning, train for it!' 📣 Happy Friday Partnership Klaxon! 📣
We are so proud to celebrate the impact of our partnership with Lucy Group who have committed 3 years of investment into improving the life outcomes of young people in supported accommodation and our core costs. Last week we were blown away by the impact of their employability workshops led by superstar Matt Bryant.
The room was packed with engaged young people showing up for their futures with resilience and determination. With work experience placements and a Future Leaders residential coming up in the autumn, we know that it is transformational corporate partnership like this that lead to life-changing results.
Thank you Lucy Group for leading with compassion and care for our young people. We are proud to be in partnership alongside you.
