With the Olympics in full swing, we’ve been taking a look through sporting moments from our archives.

On Saturday, we welcomed 85 of our newest alumni to LMH ahead of their graduation ceremonies. Huge congratulations to all!
🗞️ Varaidzo Vee Kativhu (Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, 2017) has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Bradford in recognition of her educational activism and empowerment work. She received her degree at a ceremony in Bradford on 18th July.
In her address to graduands, Vee spoke passionately about the challenges she faced as a young girl adjusting to life in the UK after her family migrated here when she was 6, and how her love of reading and determination to be able to communicate fuelled her passion for learning.
She outlined the beginnings of her academic empowerment platform, Empowered by Vee, and how she discovered during her time at Oxford that she could use the digital world to help challenge stereotypes and to break down barriers for access to education.
Dedicating her Honorary Doctorate to her mother, Loveness, Vee cited the support of her family as a crucial element in her success to date – which has seen her receive awards including the UK Prime Minister’s Point of Lights Award, a Diana Legacy Award and a place in the BBC 100 Women 2023 list.
Speaking about her honorary degree, Vee said: "I feel over the moon to receive such a prestigious award and to be the youngest honorary degree recipient in the university. I cannot wait to continue on with my work and show the world the power of education and letting girls learn!"

A sneak peek behind-the-scenes of our Graduation Day earlier this week 👀
🗞️ LMH Glasstone Research Fellow and Associate Professor in Quantum Information Theory Dr Bálint Koczor has been announced as one of 68 promising research leaders who will receive £104 million in funding to lead research into global issues and commercialise their innovations in the UK.
The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)’s Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) seek to enable universities and businesses to develop their most talented early career researchers and innovators, by providing them with long-term support and funding.
Dr Koczor is looking forward to using the FLF funding to advance his research, saying: “The Future Leaders Fellowship is an excellent and unique opportunity to provide me with long-term funding to establish a world-leading group that specialises in the theory for quantum computers. The ultimate goal is to achieve practical quantum advantage, which is the point at which a quantum computer can perform useful tasks for those who are not specialists, for example, a chemist may use a quantum computer to simulate properties of a molecule in order to forgo expensive laboratory synthesis.”

Yesterday we enjoyed our first Graduation Day of the summer🧑🎓
Congratulations to all of our LMH graduates - we hope you enjoyed the celebrations!
It's Graduation season! 🎓
With our first Graduation day of the summer taking place tomorrow, our archivist, Olly, has shared a photograph marking a key milestone in women’s education at Oxford:
“One of my favourite items in the LMH archive is the unpublished memoir of Helena Clara Deneke [1878-1973], who was LMH Tutor in German from 1913-1938. This delightful photograph dating from 1920, stuck in the memoir, shows the first women to be awarded degrees at Oxford as they exit the Divinity School. Helena herself is walking in the front row, third from the left.
Una-Katherine Yeo [LMH 1921] commented in her recollections, which are also stored in the archives, 'We were all conscious I think of being privileged pioneers and took ourselves quite seriously. It was an exciting time when women were first accepted as full University members.'"
