Oxford Botanic Garden spread across 1.8 hectares and boasting over 5,000 plants, this site stands as Britain's oldest botanic garden and is among the world's earliest scientific gardens. Established in 1621 by Henry Danvers, the 1st Earl of Danby, as a physic garden for medicinal plant research, the Earl generously donated £5,000 for the project (equivalent to over £5,000,000 in 2018). Today, this garden houses one of the world's most diverse and compact plant collections.

When SIAD Studio was approached to conduct a 3D laser survey of the existing building on-site, we were excited. The site's curators recognised the value of a 3D laser scan to support future developments and preserve the data for posterity.

The comprehensive brief also included a survey to capture the current sizes and locations of the trees across the site. This information holds immense value for botanists and heritage site curators, as it effectively preserves history by encapsulating it in a digital format.

Unlocking speed and precision, the Leica RTC360 achieves a low-resolution scan in just 26 seconds and a medium-resolution scan in 51 seconds. For a comprehensive high-resolution scan, it takes a mere 1 minute and 42 seconds.

Even with all features activated—high-resolution scanning, HDR photo capture, two-pass for removing moving objects, and onboard pre-registration—the entire scanning process is completed in an impressive 4 minutes and 21 seconds. In under 5 minutes, we can gather a wealth of information.

The RTC360 showcases its remarkable capability by scanning at an extraordinary speed of 2 million points per second.

Throwing it back to the completion of a remarkable project by SIAD Construction for Smurfit Kappa in Witney! The extensive expansion involved constructing both a warehouse extension and a new canopy at the rear of the existing site. Key features such as pallet storage, a designated loading/unloading area, and convenient HGV vehicle access were seamlessly integrated into the design.

The warehouse extension covered an impressive 30,000 sq.ft, with a substantial 25,500 sq.ft dedicated to the new canopy. These additions elevated the total gross internal floorspace of the site to an impressive 130,000 sq.ft, enhancing Smurfit Kappa's operational efficiency and expanding its overall capacity.

SIAD Studio Recreates Houghton House.

The remains of this 17th-century mansion in Bedfordshire, overlooks the beautiful surrounding hunting estate. Built in 1615 for the Countess of Pembroke, Mary Dowager, it is reported to have served as the inspiration for John Bunyan’s novel Pilgrim’s Progress.

After conduction a 3D measured survey of the H-shaped property, SIAD’s Studio division created a Building Information Model ( ) to preserve this gem in history. We went a step further and restored the 3-storey building to its original glory, using a combination of photographs and the same BIM technology.

This engineering marvel, completed in 1849, connects Manchester to Huddersfield, crossing the remote West Riding of Yorkshire. Recognised for its architectural significance, Saddleworth Viaduct proudly holds the Grade II Listed Structure status, preserving its timeless elegance for future generations.
