St Edmund Hall Library
The Teddy Hall Library page. Keep up with what's going on, ask questions, and make suggestions - we are here to help! The official page of Teddy Hall Library.
Housed in the 12th century former church of St. Peter-in-the-East, we provide a comprehensive collection of mainly undergraduate course books and a peaceful, beautiful place to get some work done.
Our fingers are crossed for all those receiving their A-Level results today - we can't wait to meet our new cohort in October!
Thank you for your patience while the Library has been closed for electrical works. We are now up and running with swanky additional plug sockets at desks that did not have them and all outlets have been upgraded to include USB ports. Welcome to the 21st Century St Peter-in-the-East!
We're afraid the Main Library will be closed from Monday 15 July to Monday 29 July, re-opening on Tuesday 30 July for electrical work.
We will be opening the Old Library as a study space and fetching books for you throughout! If you have any issues, just let us know. Many apologies for the inconvenience.

events continue with two shows brought to Oxford by our very own Professor of French Literature Wes Williams! Book now for 10-12 May
Ed Gaughan - Words and Music: https://oldfirestation.org.uk/whats-on/ed-gaughan-words-and-music/
First solo show in 19 years from award-garnering idiot. Words and Music, co-devised by Wes Williams, starts like conventional standup, before mining stranger territory, bordering on the Kafkaesque. A shaggy dog story where the dog may not even be a canine.
Kafka's Ape: https://oldfirestation.org.uk/whats-on/kafkas-ape/
Directed by Phala Ookeditse Phala and performed by Tony Bonani Miyambo, Kafka’s Ape is a rich adaptation of a profound and wide-ranging text combined with a powerful physical performance. The realities of xenophobia, racism, animal cruelty, genocide, and more have all been absorbed and grappled with by the play throughout its years of touring.
Double bill – Book tickets for Kafka’s Ape at 7pm and Ed Gaughan – Words & Music at 9pm for only £18. Discount will be applied automatically on standard priced tickets.

Have your say! - Last year's Library Survey was so helpful for us to understand what you think about the Library. To keep your voices heard, we've set up a feedback wall in the Library. Tell us your grievances or up-vote someone else's on a post-it note. The wall will be up until the end of term.
Thank you to Shubham Kulkarni of for sharing this wonderful image of polar star trails above the Library ✨
Shubham says: "Created by stacking 300 shots & reducing 8GB of data over 10 hrs, this image captures the graceful motion of stars around Polaris. But wait, there's more! Trails of deep-sky objects, including the Double Cluster in Perseus & the Andromeda galaxy, add to the enchantment. And if you look closely, you might catch a glimpse of a meteor from the Perseids shower at the very top of the image!"

The Doctor is in!
A 12 month Graduate Traineeship is the most traditional way to follow a career in academic libraries. It allows you to explore all the different elements of Library work and allows freedom for you to craft your own work projects around the parts you find the most interesting!
However, over the last few years we have seen a tangible way we could make the scheme better and more supportive for the of aspiring Librarians:
A Masters degree in Library Studies is highly asked for above a certain job grade. Many trainees report 12 months is not enough time to save for expensive university fees, especially if living in Oxford (a notoriously pricey city). To give you piece of mind, we're offering a 2 year extension* to our usual Trainee role, where you'll continue to work and earn a salary alongside studying for a fully-funded, part-time Masters Degree.
We hope this encourages applications from a diverse range of backgrounds and those who previously thought Librarianship was not for people like them.
