Wishing a heartfelt Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful father figures! From everyone at Oxford Aunts, we extend our warmest regards to you. However you choose to celebrate today, we hope it brings you immense joy and happiness.
Let’s take this opportunity to honor the incredible individuals who have nurtured and loved us, and to treasure the memories of those who are no longer with us. 💚
Loneliness and social isolation among older individuals can have detrimental effects on their mental and physical well-being. As people age, changes in their social networks, health limitations, and life transitions can lead to increased feelings of loneliness and isolation. Retirement, the loss of a spouse or close friends, mobility issues, and decreased participation in social activities are just a few factors that can contribute to this growing problem.
The impact of social isolation on older adults cannot be overstated. Studies have shown that prolonged loneliness and isolation are associated with an increased risk of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Read more in our blog: https://ow.ly/MVnQ50SiMHQ 🏡

Last month, Elaine, Senior Business Development Manager, was lucky enough to spend the day with the Kent Fire and Rescue Service, at Sevenoaks Fire Station, to deliver training to the team on dementia and communication.
Elaine said: "The Team have been meeting more people living with dementia when undertaking their wellbeing visits and on emergency shouts. They asked for a refresher on understanding dementia, how to communicate well with people living with cognitive impairment, and a better knowledge of how to reassure and put people at ease.
One Firefighter said that he always used 'Kent Fire Brigade' when introducing himself to seniors and or vulnerable people. He said their updated title ''Kent Fire And Rescue' can confuse older people who grew up trusting the 'Fire Brigade', people living with memory loss and older people can become alarmed if they feel that they either had a fire or needed rescuing'!'
It's the little things that put people at ease and the watches at Sevenoaks Fire Station clearly pay attention to the detail, have a willingness to understand and put this into practice for their community. It was a pleasure to meet them all."

What is end-of-life care? 🏡
End-of-life care is holistic support provided to people with life-limiting conditions and their loved ones. It is a form of palliative care offered to someone within the final weeks or months of their lives.
The focus of end-of-life care is to provide bespoke support to the individual so that they can live in comfort and dignity in the time they have left. End-of-life care goes beyond merely addressing physical needs; it is a holistic approach that considers the emotional, spiritual, and social aspects of a person’s well-being.

How to choose the best personal alarms for older people 👇🏼
Personal alarms (or panic alarms) are an indispensable solution for maintaining the safety and independence of older adults that live at home alone. These compact and wearable devices allow you to contact emergency assistance at the touch of a button. This can be life-saving for the elderly with mobility or frailty concerns who are at risk for falls.

🎄✨ Creating a dementia-friendly Christmas experience is crucial. Here are four tips to make the holidays special for your clients:
- Get them involved
- Keep things plain & simple
- Reflect on joyful moments
- Keep it small
This week is Grief Awareness Week 💚
Grief is a universal human experience that follows the loss of a loved one, a pet, a job, a relationship, or even a way of life. It’s a complex emotional response that can manifest in various ways, including sadness, anger, guilt, confusion, and even physical symptoms.
For information and resources that can help you talk more openly about dying, death, and bereavement have a look at the Dying Matters website: https://ow.ly/RJ8V50QbhkV
Planning respite care over the festive season... 🎄
Respite care at home is a short-term care package that means a person can be cared for in their beloved home by a dedicated and experienced carer whilst a family carer is afforded time away from their role of caring to catch up and protect their own wellbeing.

Bonfire Night! 🔥✨
If going to a fireworks show is overwhelming, don't forget that being alone on Bonfire Night might be unsettling for some. Having company can provide a comforting distraction, easing any anxiety during the festivities and loud fireworks.
Why not plan your own celebration, from backyard sparklers to a cosy Bonfire Night dinner? It's a fantastic way to take your mind off the outside festivities. You can also choose calming music or enjoy your favourite movie or TV show.
Stay safe and enjoy.
What is respite care? 🏡
Respite care is a short-term type of care that gives family members and caregivers a welcome break from their caregiving duties while a professional carer looks after their loved ones. This allows family carers to rest, relax and catch up on personal affairs so they can get back to their loved ones feeling rested and recharged.

Our Story
Live-in care means you have a dedicated carer living with you at home. Older people benefit hugely - mentally and physically - from staying at home as opposed to residential care. It means they remain in familiar surroundings, amongst favourite possessions, perhaps in the family home, with a much-loved pet, or close to family and friends.
Oxford Aunts Care is a specialist company that provides nurse-led, live-in homecare. Our name is synonymous with delivering trustworthy, cost-effective and high quality care. We have nearly half a century’s experience of live-in care and have built an excellent reputation.
We work hard to maintain high standards of care. We are regulated and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Oxford Aunts is also a founder member of The Live-in Homecare Information Hub and the UK Homecare Association (UKHCA) and has nearly 50 years’ experience providing live-in services.
Generally, live-in carers will help with: mobility and personal safety, personal care, managing medication, shopping and cooking, housework, pet care, personal administration, driving and accompanying on outings, appointments and social activities.
As well as the general care and support outlined, we can provide live-in services for more complex requirements, for people who have:
• Dementia
• Post-operative/convalescent or respite needs
• Special communication needs
• Sensory loss
• Complex health care needs
• Stroke
• Palliative care needs
• End of life care needs
• Neurological conditions
• Sudden onset conditions e.g. brain injury
• Intermittent/unpredictable conditions e.g. MS
• Progressive conditions e.g. early onset dementia
• Stable neurological conditions e.g. cerebral palsy
• Cardiac conditions
• Respiratory conditions.
We are not able to provide services to clients with spinal injury.
