What started as a beautiful morning for rugby latterly became overcast and cooler, however that didn’t deter our mighty minis from some hard fought competition with Marr Rugby. We loved having you visit and look forward to our next matches! Thank you for making the trek to us and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

Next week we welcome our friends from Dunfermline Rugby Club Minis, Livingston Rugby Football Club and GHK Rugby Club. We can’t wait to give them a warm welcome to the North Inch! See you next week!

CLUB NEWS 🦅 | YOUR SENIOR WOMEN COACHES!

Introducing Iona Coutts, Head Coach of the Senior Women. She is an essential asset, a driving force for the Women’s side. We are excited to see where she can lead them. We are ecstatic to welcome her back for another season.

Iona states: “We are hoping to build on the successes of last year in this, our second league season. We hope to increase our playing numbers and to grow the skills and experience levels of individual players. At all times we want to play with a positive approach, to continue to learn and love the game.”

Flanked by Arran and Ross—both brilliant additions to the coaching team returning for their second season with the Women’s squad— Iona leads a formidable trio. With Arran focusing on all things Backs and Ross bringing his expertise in the rugby rulebook, this solid team is committed to ensuring that the Women get the most out of their training sessions and excel in the league.

Bound to be a season of success, it will be great to see everyone down supporting and cheering on the Women.

Wow and just like that summer is over! Our wonderful mini section resumed training last week after their summer break and what a session they had. Today saw them meet at Tentsmuir beach for their annual training session and boy did they have fun! The weather didn’t deter them, they still had a mix of training and water play…rather them than me 🥶🥶🥶. I hope you’re all warmed up now and enjoyed meeting your new friends….the seals!!

Next week we welcome our first team of the season to Perthshire (Marr Rugby). This will be our first fixture with them and we can’t wait to give them a warm welcome to the North Inch! Marr hosted our U’12 tour last season and what a game it was! Can’t wait to see you all!

🌟 Last night was the first of many to come for the Bertha Eagles Launch Night at Bertha Park! 🦅

Our School of Rugby program is growing stronger every day, now with teams from S1 to S5 for both boys and girls. 🙌

It was an incredible evening packed with valuable information on our School Rugby program, upcoming fixtures, pathways, the Scottish Rugby blueprint, concussion awareness, and the transition from school to club rugby.

Plus, we had the honour of hosting a Q&A session with two Edinburgh Rugby players, brilliantly led by our S5 pupils! 🎤🏉

We can’t wait to see this program continue to soar! 🚀

Our U15s finished their pre-season with a win against Boroughmuir. Another good, competitive gam. We wish Boroughmuir all the best for the upcoming season. A huge thanks to some of the 1st XV for coming down, running the line and reffing - your presence and advice/support meant a lot to our boys 🙌

A huge well done to the 1XV and the Eagles taking the W over Murrayfield Wanderers and Arbroath. The Adam Pattinson Cup remains at home once again.

SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT 🦅 | Your Senior Squads to take on their respective opponents.

The 1XV welcome Murrayfield Wanderers Football Club down for a pre-season friendly in the goal of retaining the Adam Pattinson Memorial Cup.

The Eagles welcome Arbroath RFC to the North Inch for a pre-season warm up match.

Our Senior Women make the short trek down to Grangemouth Ladies Rugby at Grangemouth Rugby Club for a friendly game. A huge thank you to Dunfermline Rugby Football Club and Strathmore Rugby Club for lending us some players to break in the ole’ boots.

CLUB NEWS 🦅 | YOUR 1XV CAPTAINS!

Continuing on from last year’s captaincy, Captain Calum Chalmers, and Co-Captain Simon McGarry welcome the addition of Calum Bruce into the leadership team. Together, the three well versed, experienced players will take the lead on and off the pitch.

Calum expresses: “I’m very excited for the season ahead and also very grateful to be selected as Captain. Last season was a real learning curve for myself as well as the team. The drop out of National rugby was a tough pill to swallow but we have taken the off-season to rebuild and consolidate the squad. The addition of DNC to the coaching team has added some real positive momentum and the boys are excited to get started. There are big things to come at Perthshire.”

Both Calum and Si have said: “I'm really looking forward to the new season to see what the team can achieve in Cally 1. Having Dave come in has freshened things up and there has been a real buzz around pre season training so far. We'll certainly be giving our all to get Perthshire back where they belong!” and “I'm really looking forward to the season ahead, we have a brilliant oppertunity to dominate this league. The boys are all looking sharp and ready to go, the new coaching setup has really lifted atmosphere in the team, we're ready to get in about it”

The 1XV have had a reshuffle with the coaching set up going into this season. A huge welcome to David Nowell-Cook, looking to take on the challenge of the Caledonian Divison 1. A huge re-welcome to Sarah Hogwood taking charge for the second season in a row. 🤝

DNC states: “I am very much looking forward to this season. I’m looking forward to seeing what this group of players can do. We’ve got some unbelievable skill, some incredible determination and a strong strong work ethic in this team.

There’s been some big changes in the staff, in the squad and how we approach the whole season and it’s the smile on our faces and sheer enjoyment of playing together that’s going to drive us on to success. I say to the players we are the “big” team in this league, we’re a big club and that puts a target on our back and I for one LOVE that. The standards we are setting, the hard work, the ambition are in place to make this a GREAT season.

One thing I want everyone to focus on, we don’t HAVE to play for Perthshire…….. we GET to play for Perthshire RFC. So, if you’re reading this and have time on a Saturday afternoon, come down and support us, come and see us play. We need our crowd to feed off and I know it’s going to be exhilarating to watch.” 🦅

Last night, Craig Halley (Referee Development & Training) led an informative session for our senior men and colts, covering important law changes for the new season.

# # # # World Rugby Law Changes:
- **Offsides at Kicks**: Stricter rules on players loitering offside.
- **Crocodile Roll Ban**: This dangerous technique is now prohibited.
- **No Scrum Option from Free Kicks**: Teams can't choose a scrum after a free kick.

# # # # Scottish Rugby Opt-in Changes:
- **1 Stop at a Maul**: Mauls can only stop once.
- **Protecting the No.9 at Mauls**: Increased safety for the scrum-half.
- **Mark Called from Restarts**: Players can call a mark from restarts.

# # # # U18s Specific Rule:
- **Protecting the No.9 at Scrums**: Extra protection in Midi rugby.

Craig ensured we're all up to date with these crucial updates as we prepare for the season ahead. Let's put this knowledge into practice!

WHAT A DAY! Club Day 2024 🦅

The BIGGEST thank you to everyone who took part in our Club Day.

From ripping up weeds, cleaning the changing rooms, ripping out the inside of the shed, sorting it and then putting it back. To upstairs in our club room clearing out the bar, cleaning the glass and trophies. To filling skips, moving scrum machines and cleaning gutters. To much much more.

Your help is massively appreciated and all part of making sure Perthshire is ready for the 2024/25 season. Thank you again.
