🌍 Immigration Changes Update 🌍
Hey everyone, we've got some updates regarding recent immigration changes in the UK from Spring 2024. Here's a breakdown of what's been happening:
Healthcare Surcharge Increase: The healthcare surcharge for migrants accessing the NHS has jumped by 66% to £1,035. This rise might deter potential migrants due to added financial strain, raising concerns about the UK's appeal to skilled workers.
EUSS Regulations: Changes in the EU Settlement Scheme have complicated family applications. The Home Office's stricter approach aims to bar ineligible persons, but concerns arise regarding eligible late applicants facing rejections, potentially locking them out of the scheme.
Family Visa Restrictions: Recent discussions confirm a stricter approach, especially for health and social care workers. This shift might prioritise individual skilled workers over family reunification, affecting immigrants settling in the UK.
Salary Threshold Increase: The skilled worker visa's minimum salary threshold is climbing from £26,200 to £38,700, signalling a move to attract higher-paid professionals and limit lower-wage migration.
International Student Regulations: Restrictions on bringing dependents align with reducing net migration, focusing on the educational aspect for international students and potentially impacting their families' settlement decisions.
Shortage Occupation List Overhaul: Planned changes aim to address labour shortages in specific sectors, aligning with the post-Brexit border control pledge to ensure the UK meets critical workforce needs.
These changes indicate a shift in immigration policy, aiming to attract higher-skilled individuals and address workforce shortages while imposing stricter controls on family reunification and lower-wage migration. Stay informed, and if you have any questions, let's discuss them here!
