I haven’t turned anything on the lathe for a while so whilst between furniture projects I finished this Olive wood bowl. It has such an amazing grain!

Here are a few shots that show the work that goes into hand making my walnut and brass writing slope. The walnut comes as rough sawn boards that need to be meticulously shaped and planed to size . Each brass component is crafted from brass bar and sheet! Quite a bit of work!

This Ladies and Gentlemen is Wenge....Extremely hard to work but quite the finish

Olive Wood has such beautiful grain and these hand turned items show it off to the maximum

I have been hand turning a few items from Olive Wood (the vase and bowl to the right of shot are Olive Wood), Wenge (the dark bowl on the right) and Ash. The grain of Olive Wood is absolutely amazing as I think you’ll agree!

First turning of an Olive wood bowl. Hand turned bowls like this need to be allowed to dry out if the wood is what is called “green”. In a month or so this will be ready for finishing. The grain is quite something already though wouldn’t you agree?

Quite enjoy hand cutting joints, way more than using a router anyway!

Something new is coming...

A recent build and deviation from furniture completed as a birthday present. This mailbox made from oak started out as four rough sawn oak boards. Each flattened by hand and then cut and shaped into all the components (including all of the individual roof shingles). Particularly like the lead flashing. Not 100% essential but wanted an authentic roof look.
