2024 COMMUNITY FEEDBACK 🏳️‍⚧️📢

The team got together for a debrief last night, reflecting on how this year's events went, what we'd like to do differently as well as taking stock of the feedback you provided us with via our feedback survey. We wanted to provide you with some of our key takeaways from the survey!

Our team is excited and determined to keep making TPP even better, so thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts with us and has helped to shape our path forward. 💗

There's a couple of things we'll be working on throughout the rest of this year, including our annual general meeting which you're all invited to, so stay tuned for more details.

EDL members and fascists are holding a rally in central Plymouth tomorrow, so please come out and be a part of the counter protest!

There is no place for racism, xenophobia or islamophobia in Plymouth. ✊❤️

Our community is particularly vulnerable and at risk of violence, so if you are planning on attending please make sure to buddy up and don't arrive or leave the protest by yourself.

It's especially important to us that if you had a negative experience or witnessed transphobia at any of our venues that you report it - we're committed to working with local venues to make them safer for our community and your testimonies are extremely valuable!

This is a question we've gotten a lot, generally from well meaning cis allies who are concerned about taking up space where they shouldn't. And we appreciate that so many of you are mindful of that!

The truth is, your presence at Trans Pride is not only welcome but encouraged - we are living in an incredibly polarised time and our community needs your support more than ever.

So please come along and lend your voice to our struggle! We are working with so many wonderful trans creatives across our art market, open mic, exhibition and after party who all deserve your support.

Just remember: you are a guest in our space and we expect you to centre the experiences and needs of trans people at all of our events.

We're open to you using this platform in whatever way you think is appropriate, it's your place to talk about the issues facing our community on a local and global scale. Following in the footsteps of the event name, we encourage you to get TRANSGRESSIVE. ⚡

There are a couple ground rules - your speech slot is 5 minutes and while you are free to talk about politics and the election to your heart's content, this isn't a space to canvas for votes or encourage support for any particular political party. Cool? Cool. 🫵

PLYMOUTH TRANS PRIDE STANDS WITH PALESTINE AND AGAINST PLYMOUTH PRIDE IN THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH BABCOCK.

As we’re sure many of you are aware, Babcock is an official sponsor of Plymouth Pride this year.

We cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that a local LGBTQ+ event would accept sponsorship from Babcock, who work in partnership with Israeli arms companies, and who between 2008 and 2021 applied to the British government for 12 arms export licences to supply weaponry, components and military technology to Israel. This weaponry and technology has undoubtably played apart in the ongoing genocide Israel are committing in Palestine.

Their decision to take this sponsorship deal is not representative of the views of Plymouth’s Q***r community. As Palestinians continue to suffer at the hands of the Israeli government, not collaborating with defence contractors desperate to sanitise their image is the *bare minimum*.

Babcock being a prominent employer in Plymouth does not change this fact. To celebrate “Pride” with Babcock is to celebrate with blood on your hands.

We encourage Plymouth Pride to drop Babcock as a sponsor immediately and take accountability for this decision.

We had a sick time at the Trans Day of Collecting for at today! 🙏💞

A big thank you to everyone who came out and donated something, it was extremely cool to see such a variety of objects and stories from our local community (pictured: our t-shirt design from last year and a steward pack/notes from the first year of Trans Pride Plymouth 🥲🩷)

After the Museum of Transology exhibition next year this collection will permanently reside at The Box, where it will continue to grow and document the lives of trans people in Plymouth.

TRANS DAY OF COLLECTING 🏳️‍⚧️

We're buzzed to be supporting with their collection day for !

The Museum of Transology is building local trans collections across the UK & Ireland, with objects from each collection to be included in their 10 year anniversary exhibition in 2025. ✨

We'll be hanging out at The Box on the 27th April helping to sort your artefacts, so please come along, donate something and help us build an archive of trans joy in Plymouth! 🩷
