Connecting Youth CIC

Another fantastic Belong in Plymouth session with our guys at our new home at The Plot tonight with Fotonow (CIC). The project is running full steam ahead now with our young people taking more and more control over the project which is exactly what we want ✊

Filming has started on the Belong in Plymouth documentary led and delivered by our amazing group of young people with Fotonow (CIC). Can’t wait to see how this shapes up!

I’ve teamed up with Argyle Community Trust to offer 30 free spaces at a football roadshow in Manadon this Thursday.

Access to sport is close to my heart. But we know far too many families in Plymouth struggle to meet the costs.

In this last week of school holidays, I wanted to make sure there is an opportunity for any young people from any family to get out and get active.

It’s first come first serve and these places are aimed for young people who are on Free School Meals.

Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre are seeking keen, motivated and dedicated people to join their Outdoor Activity Instructors Apprenticeship programme to start in September 2024!

As an Apprentice you will complete all your training from the Mount Batten Centre, a key gateway to the newly formed Plymouth Sound National Marine Park where you’ll be trained to instruct a wide range of water and land based adventurous activities.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Mount Batten Watersports & Activities Centre for providing a week of funded activities for all our groups we work with. We managed to get a total of 46 young people from Ernesettle, Whitleigh, St Budeaux, Tamerton Foliot, Southway, North Prospect, Stonehouse, Kings Tamerton and Callington involved in a week of action packed activities which where a first for the majority of our guys. Mount Batten not only provides the activities and instructors but also transport. What a week!!

Great session with the production team and Fotonow (CIC) today as we started the story board for the Belong in Plymouth young persons documentary. We are going to be very busy with this project over the coming weeks with a great documentary at the end. Watch this space!

A massive thank you to the guys at Tamar Crossings - Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee for hosting our Pathways 2 Employment group today.

Our guys spent the afternoon learning about Tamar Crossings and finding out first hand from the apprentices currently there how they found their pathways into employment with Tamar Crossings. We also found out first hand the pros & cons of apprenticeships. It was great to also speak with the more senior members of staff about their journeys aswell and we would like to say a special thanks to the bridge manager Coral who’s story inspired our guys a lot.

This project will be running over the next few weeks and aims to give our group first hand knowledge of apprenticeships before they make that giant step themselves in the not to distant future. More organisations to visit over the coming weeks 😁

Want to take part in some Rockpooling whilst focusing on mindfulness and connecting with nature?

In partnership with Livewell, we have some mindfulness rockpooling sessions coming up.

Find some crabs, shrimp and even starfish along the coastline.

Young people can come along to meet us at the Aquarium on Tuesday 13th August 9am-11am to take part in some serene rockpooling at Teats Hill Beach.

A absolutely fantastic day spent helping out at the MVV Open Event today in Barne Barton!

We have our senior group made up of young people from Whitleigh & St Budeaux taking part in a project focused on apprenticeships in the STEM industry who volunteered at the event today. They helped the other stall holders out and gave feedback on a performance by the Belong in Plymouth crew. Amazing work by all involved.

We also had members of our Youth Ambassador team running our very own table again and promoting the work we do and a massive well done to them aswell.

A big big thank you to MVV for having us!

We spent the afternoon at the Community Funday delivered by the guys at the Pioneers Project and held at the Barn in Barne Barton.

We promoted our FREE boxing & dance sessions we run in partnership with Barnardos at the Barn on a Monday & Wednesday (more info included in pictures). We also made badges with anyone who wanted aswell.

Our Belong in Plymouth group had a fantastic time at playing their very own Dragons Den session.

We had three great media organisations come along to our session to pitch to our group on why they would be the best candidates to work with our group to deliver their documentary.

A massive thank you to Dom from Viewhear and Drew from The Hundred Hands for giving up some time to come along and well done to Fotonow (CIC) who will be working with us to deliver our groups vision.

Last week our Belong in Plymouth group were taught all about recording film with drones!

This was done as part or the project they are currently working on to create a documentary on what it’s like to be a young person today and what does and doesn’t make them feel like they belong.

We spent the weekend away on a residential at the serene Lopwell Barn with our guys who have just finished their A Levels & mocks. After all the hard work they put in they deserved a few days away with their friends.

We enjoyed exploring the moors, BBQs and 5am sunrises 🌅

The chubby bunny challenge after our boxing session last night between one of our young people and our student Rosie. Rosie displayed her fine youth work skills by winning the challenge as she managed to get 7 chicken nuggets stuffed into her mouth.
