Following population declines over several decades due to poaching for ivory and loss of habitat, the African forest elephant is now listed as critically endangered. The African Elephants play a crucial role in their environment by creating clearings in wooded areas as they move and feed, aiding in forest regeneration. Their seed dispersal through undigested seeds helps plant spread. Elephants' presence impacts the landscape, wildlife, and local communities dependent on natural resources. Protecting elephants ensures environmental preservation for future generations and supports local economies through tourism. #WorldElephantDay WWF UK

Recently, we had the pleasure of exploring the Willows Birds of Prey & Wildlife Trail and meeting the remarkable Baldrick, a barking Raven! Many thanks for hosting us and The Woodland Trust. We are looking forward to our next visit!

Dandelions are often one of the first flowers to bloom in the Spring, providing much-needed sustenance for bees as they emerge from winter hibernation. Their bright yellow petals and delicate structure make them an attractive landing spot for bees in search of food. By attracting bees to their nectar-rich blossoms, dandelions play a crucial role in supporting pollinators and promoting biodiversity in the ecosystem. So next time you see a field of dandelions, remember that they are not just weeds but important allies for our buzzing friends. 🐝

It's now early Autumn, but the pollinators are still out and about, looking for food. πŸ¦‹πŸ Succession planting, so you still have flowers flowering into late Autumn and early winter is the goal. Anna in the office planted Verbena in her garden this year (the purple flower shown in the video) and says it started flowering in early summer and is still going strong now. πŸ’œ

This gorgeous butterfly is called a Jersey Tiger and was spotted in our team member Anna's garden this weekend whilst she was doing her #BigButterflyCount. The Jersey Tiger was once confined to an isolated pocket Devon, but in the last 20 years has undergone a huge increase in distribution across Southern England and now there are regular sightings in Cornwall, Dorset, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Sussex and Kent. Have you spotted the Jersey Tiger?
