Working for Wildlife raise millions of pounds every year for wildlife and environmental charity partners through face-to-face fundraising and promotional work, emphasising meaningful conversations to inspire long-term donations. We love wildlife and the natural world, and want to give everyone who carries that same passion the chance to follow their interest through by joining one of our brilliant wildlife charities, without feeling pressured into doing so.
β¨INSECT MANSION UPDATEβ¨
The insect mansion is almost complete, with only the pallet on top left to be converted into a planter for planting pollinator-friendly plants. All the components you see were already in storage; the only item purchased for this project was the straw. We believe it will be a wonderful enhancement to our wildlife area and are eager to see it in action!

β¨W4W TEAM DAYβ¨
Our car park and surrounding area had a spruce up by the team a few weeks ago. The bushes were pruned, new gravel laid, insect houses installed and the area was given a really good tidy. It was a very productive day and we are all enjoying the fresh look.
We have quite a bit of ragwort growing in our car park. Its flowers are attractive to a wide range of insects including butterflies and moths. The distinctive yellow and black striped caterpillars of the Cinnabar moth can be seen in our photos here.
5 seabirds have been added to the list of species at DIRE RISK of local extinction.
The food supply for arctic terns, common gulls, and other UK seabirds is at risk due to overfishing and warming seas. It is crucial to safeguard our oceans and protect our seabirds.

SHOCKING: FIVE seabirds added to the list of species at DIRE RISK of local extinction.
Overfishing and warming seas are threatening the food supply for the arctic tern, common gull and many others in the UK. We need to PROTECT our oceans and SAVE our seabirds.

Each whale shark possesses a distinct pattern on its skin, akin to a human fingerprint. This feature allows researchers to conduct visual analyses on individual whale sharks for accurate identification and tracking. Preferring the shallower parts of the sea, they are at risk from fishing nets and collisions with boats, along with having highly-traded fins and meat, whale sharks are being overfished and poached around the world, and their numbers are decreasing each year.
As part of the rewilding project we have ongoing at Working for Wildlife, we have started to build an insect/wildlife mansion in the office grounds. We used logs from around the area to create a hedgehog house at the base, then placed the pallets on top. The plan is to fill each layer with sticks, dry leaves, straw, pine cones and bricks and then to top it with pollinator friendly plants so we can encourage a variety of insects to visit, helping to boost biodiversity. ππππ·π¦
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates soon! π
This is fantastic news, the Flow Country, one of the most extensive peatlands left in Europe and key for tackling the ongoing climate crisis, is now a World Heritage Site!

Happy World Honey Bee Day! π
Fun fact - Β£690 million is the mind-boggling amount that insect pollination is worth to UK crops each year. 76 percent of globally important commercial crops depend on insect pollination. This equates to 1 in 3 mouthfuls of food!
These tiny yet mighty pollinators play a crucial role in our ecosystem, and they need our help. We can all do our bit to help bees whether thatβs in our gardens, balconies or windowsills. You can also chat to friends and family about how cool bees are and help them to make their wild spaces bee-friendly. Plant a range of flowers in your garden so bees have access to nectar from March to October. Bees love traditional cottage garden flowers and native wildflowers, like primrose, foxglove, and marigolds. π§‘

A few tips from WWF UK to help the wildlife in your garden during summer π
Following population declines over several decades due to poaching for ivory and loss of habitat, the African forest elephant is now listed as critically endangered.
The African Elephants play a crucial role in their environment by creating clearings in wooded areas as they move and feed, aiding in forest regeneration. Their seed dispersal through undigested seeds helps plant spread. Elephants' presence impacts the landscape, wildlife, and local communities dependent on natural resources. Protecting elephants ensures environmental preservation for future generations and supports local economies through tourism.

Lions are top predators in their environment, whether thatβs grasslands, desert or open woodland. It means they play a crucial role in keeping a healthy balance of numbers among other animals, especially herbivores like zebra and wildebeest β which in turn influences the condition of grasslands and forests.
By protecting a lionβs landscape, weβre helping the whole area to thrive, which doesnβt just benefit wildlife but the people who rely on local natural resources too. - WWF UK
