Union Street Party 2014 – 15 years of love ❤️

Each year, the Union Street Party costs around £6000. Not exactly pocket change for a non profit! That’s six grand and lots of local people mucking in, swapping skills and services, and support from the brilliant volunteers. Most years they manage to secure funding to cover this cost, but this year it’s been tricky. Thanks to donations from , , Alison Raynsford’s councillor community grant and the proceeds from last week’s Real Steel event, they’ve raised just under £2000.

While they’ll always pull it out of the bag, this year they’re being bold and asking for help. How?

From 2021, we’ve been working with Babcock and Devonport Dockyard on a creativity for change project and it’s amazeballs! 😃❤️Babcock: design for change is a unique and innovative programme of inspirational design, artwork, murals and motivational language being applied to various spaces, across many mediums throughout Devonport Dockyard. It seeks to make a difference to the workforce and place, by raising aspirations and bringing creative action to how we engage with and are affected by the workplace.
The project's aesthetics draw inspiration from Dazzle camouflage, a technique widely employed during World War I and, to a lesser extent, in World War II and subsequent periods for ships. We infused a contemporary twist into this classic concept by incorporating the Babcock colour palette and complementing illustrations from . This fusion resulted in the development of an exceptionally adaptable graphic style that could be seamlessly applied to various forms, locations, walls, and windows. Additionally, we crafted the Babcock Creative Catalogue, providing different teams and sections within the Dockyard the flexibility to select their desired design solutions come to life.
