What a beautiful evening for training! Using the various different mobile apps that we can use to assist both navigation and comms. Searching for marker posts in an area that we've been in multiple times on callouts. Thank you to Derriford Community Park and Poole Farm for letting us search in your grounds.

🚨 Callout 03/07/24 🚨

At 1855 hours the team were called out by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with two injured hikers in the Peat Cott area on Dartmoor.

On arrival, a swift response team, along with Paramedics walked to their location, whilst landrovers took the required equipment closer to the scene, via Gutter Tor and along the track towards Plym Ford.

The two hikers were located and first aid was administered. They were suffering from hypothermia and Devon Air Ambulance () was requested to assist with an immediate evacuation to hospital.

We wish to thank our colleagues from Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team - Tavistock, SWAST and Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response for their assistance. It was a good example of how seamlessly different teams work together.

It was good to see that the hikers did the correct thing when members of their team were unwell. They stopped, erected tents and called the emergency services.

The teams were stood down at midnight.

DSRTP’s thoughts and condolences go out to our Mountain Rescue brothers and sisters over the water in the Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team who had to rescue one of their own. Thank you for rescuing him and bringing him back to his family. May he rest in eternal peace.

On Tuesday 2nd July 2024 Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team were tasked to the Benbulben forest walk area, where a climber had sustained a serious injury.
Two local climbers were out climbing a gully above the Benbulben Forest Walk when the accident occurred.
The climber, a local man in his forties, slipped while climbing the gully, sustaining a serious head injury. Both climbers were active members of Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team.
15 Mountain Rescue volunteers responded to the call and rushed to the scene. They were accompanied by two ambulances from the National ambulance Service and Members of An Garda Siochána. Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue 118 was dispatched from Strandhill to assist in the operation.
A helicopter rescue from the mountain could not be attempted due to the location and prevailing winds but was able to provide extra illumination from the helicopter as the light began to fade. Four paramedics attended the scene alongside mountain rescue personnel and despite their best efforts they could not revive our colleague.
He was lifted onto a stretcher to be lowered off the mountain. The operation to retrieve our colleague was very precarious as the terrain was very steep and the weather started to deteriorate, making conditions very difficult underfoot. A brake rope was deployed on the stretcher to assist with extraction off the mountain. Despite the worsening conditions there was a concerted effort by all team members to bring our friend home.
As a team we are all devastated at the loss of our friend and colleague, for almost decade he was a dedicated member of the team coming to assist those in need. He was compassionate, professional, friendly and always had a big smile wherever you would meet him. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family at what is a very difficult time. We would also like to reassure the public that as we go through this period of mourning that the team is fully operational and ready to respond to anyone who may get into difficulty in the upland areas of Sligo and Leitrim.
Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team wish to thank An Garda Siochána, the National Ambulance Service and Coast Guard Rescue 118 for their assistance in the operation.

🌟 **Dramatic Recap of the Dartmoor Prison Break Ultra Challenge!** 🌟

Over the weekend, the imposing gates of HMP Dartmoor loomed large as competitors gathered for the annual Dartmoor Prison Break Ultra challenge. This extraordinary event beckoned participants from across the country, daring them to escape the confines of the prison using only their own two feet. But there was a twist: the distance would be measured "as the crow flies," forcing escapees to choose not just any route, but the straightest path to freedom.

The race village buzzed with anticipation. Prison-themed music set the tone as people shared their plans and swapped tales of past escapades. The pièce de résistance? Posing with the Prison Museum guard mannequin, complete with iron props – a thrilling taste of life behind bars.

The weather played its part, favouring the fugitives. Sunlight bathed the landscape, and a gentle breeze whispered encouragement. The tunnels were dug, ladders in place, and at high noon, the alarms blared. The prisoners burst forth from the granite gates, scattering left and right like startled birds.

Enter the Wardens – relentless pursuers. Mugshots snapped as they nabbed runners, even tracking down escapees as far afield as Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey. Beware, for they lurk everywhere!

But this event wasn't just about distance covered; it was about personal triumphs. Some raced against time, others simply ran or walked home. And then, a record was shattered: Jason Lee soared 84.3 miles "as the crow flies," nearly reaching Bristol! Bravo, Jason!

Hot on his heels was Lee Plank, a seasoned return Felon, clocking an impressive 70.5 miles to Marazion, Cornwall. Lands' End beckons next year, perhaps?
To all participants: You made this event unforgettable. And to those who raised extra sponsorship, your contributions directly support the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Plymouth. Without you, their vital service to the people of South West Dartmoor, Plymouth, and beyond would be impossible. 🙌🏼🔍🏃‍♂️🌄

Well that's it for another year. Our final 6 Felons have finally been rounded up and are heading back to their cells for a well earned rest.
Some amazing efforts from everyone over the last 24hours.
We now have a new record set by the awesome Jason Lee. 84.3miles (as the crow flies)!!
A great effort.
We thank you all for participation this year, and thank you for supporting Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team Plymouth.
We will be back!

With a little over 3 hours remaining there are now only 7 hardened criminals at large. A great effort being put in by all. Will they reach their targets?

01/06/2024

The 12hour escapees are now finished and tucked up back in their cells.
Only the 24hour hardened criminals are left.
Some tremendous efforts are going in at the moment. People are reaching Taunton to the North East, and St Austell in Cornwall to the West. Keep it going.
