Ride London last weekend and we were there to get amongst the action!
The crew from Rockets & Rascals head to Ride London! Steve Toze and the gang from Rockets & Rascals Plymouth head to London to take on the mighty Ride London cycling event, 103 miles around London and Essex.
Cycling writer Katherine Moore rode Trans Devon this year and was kind enough to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) for us and, along with some great photos by Sam Voaden, give us some fresh material for our Rocket Report - that's right, two articles in the same year! Get a cup of your favourite and give it a read. Link below....
A Lap of the County - a bikepacking adventure around Devon by bicycle Katherine Moore rides the Trans Devon adventure ride - a three day cycling adventure around Devon taking in the south coast of Devon, Exmoor, the Tarka trail and Plym Valley before heading to Rockets 7 Rascals in Plymouth
With this in and out weather it’s the perfect time to come and grab one of our jumpers.
Rep Rockets while keeping yourself cool in the evenings.
Available in store and online soon!
We've been giving our website a little overhaul this week and this includes a return to writing some blog posts. Many of you will have noticed the big orange electic Mondraker bike inside the front door, Steve Toze (our owner) took it out for a blast on the moors on the infamous Widowmaker!
Mondraker Crafty x The Widowmaker If there’s one trail that people in the Plymouth area like to get stuck into it’s The Widowmaker. Notorious for its ability to absolutely trash your bike and leave you in the middle of nowhere the name was coined right back in the early 90s when attempting to ride this trail on a non suspension ...
This weekend is pirates weekend down on the Barbican!
We’ll be getting into the spirit down here at Rockets while still putting out banging coffee, food and cake.
Takeaways, as always, are available if you’re looking to wander round the stalls and don’t forget we’ve got draught on if you fancy a pint in the sun (🤞🏻)
TRANS DEVON 2024!
What a weekend that was. We want to give a huge shout out to all those that took part, it’s not an easy event and sometimes not everyone makes it to the end.
Those that made it to the end, whether you did it in one go without any sleep or took until Sunday to get back well done!
We love putting on these sorts of events and the vibe this year was second to none.
Here’s to next years Trans Kernow. The event is already up online but we’ll understand if you give it a week before signing up.
Honoured to be presented with John’s unopened fig rolls at the end of his epic ride, we’ll proudly display them until next years event or their use by date, whichever comes first - but we won’t open them!
First rider back was Nathan Woodhouse.
The Trans Devon event isn’t a race, you can do it as quick as you want or take your time. Finishing it is the only goal. Some take the whole weekend, some like Nathan here smash it out and get back before we’ve even arrived for work.
This weekend is our annual Trans Devon adventure ride. 65 riders are signed up for the epic challenge that will see them set off from Rockets & Rascals at 6pm heading towards Exmouth, they'll then check in and push onwards to North Devon and hit checkpoint 2 in Lynton sometime during Saturday, then the long ride home to Rockets. The fastest riders will hit home on Saturday, those taking a more leisurely approach will be back on Sunday. Pop down over the weekend to soak up the vibe and if you'd like to follow the riders then you can watch the dots (each rider has a GPS tracker) by following the link below...
https://live.opentracking.co.uk/transdevon24/
Entering the last 20 or so places for this year’s Trans Devon adventure ride. Full details of the event on our website, it all happens over the May bank holiday weekend… hopefully it’ll stop raining by then!
Trans Devon 2024 just under a month away and details of exact checkpoint locations should be dropping this week, GPS trackers are ordered and we're praying that this rain will p**s off as we're frankly sick of it. Entries still open, about 75 riders so far which is enough for a party but only just! Entry on the link below... https://www.rocketsandrascals.co.uk/collections/events/products/trans-devon-2024
A little thing like a Bank Holiday doesn’t change a thing for us.
We’re here all weekend and Monday with our usual opening times.
See you down here
TRANS DEVON.
It’s almost that time of year again. Trans Devon is coming up in May and there is still time to get yourself an entry into a fantastic event.
It may take one day, it may take three days. We don’t know what route you’re going to take, all we do know is you have got to get to a few definite places, you’ve got to do it without any outside help and you’ve got to do it with a smile on your face. There’s no number board, there’s no prize for winning, there’s loads of feed stations (they’re called cafes, shops or even fancy restaurants) but they’re not always open, there’s no accommodation provided and we don’t even give you a map. The joy of these Trans events is their simplicity. It’s one great big adventure, or more specifically it’s many adventures taking place at once, all in Devon.
Head to the link in our bio to grab your entry now.
The newest iteration of the Indy Coffee guide is out.
It features all the best coffee spots in the south of England and we’re in it, as are our two sister cafes and

Coffee and cake, it’s a winning combination no matter what day it is.
All our cakes are made in house and we’re pretty proud of them. But don’t take our word for it, come down and try a slice.
We’re always changing things down here and this year is going to be no different.
We’ve just had a fresh drop of items in with more on the way.
The weather is looking up today, we’ll be here all day serving coffee and food.
If you’re heading down to the Barbican you couldn’t find a better spot.

Plymouth's Crowdfunder is so close to the line! It all ends at Midday on Friday www.crowdfunder.co.uk/rocketsandrascals there's loads of great rewards left so join the crowd!
Not long and we'll shut up about this Crowdfunder and get on with building a great workshop & bike hire facility in RnR and getting ready to re-open. It's been a great day on the Crowdfunder, Plymouth City Council approved our match funding request and we've had a nice little capital injection. So now we're so close, 2 days to go, we're so thankful for everyone that has got onboard, we still have a load of raffle tickets left, they are £5 each, someone is going to win a party at Rockets, plus plenty of cool little rewards for getting involved. Join the crowd at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/rocketsandrascals this all ends at Midday on Friday! Thanks, thanks, thanks x
Plymouth's quest to get a workshop space back into our location has 4 days left, our crowdfunder ends next Friday at Midday and if we don’t hit that funding target all of the money people have pledged gets returned and we get nothing! Thanks so much to everyone that’s jumped onboard so far, now over 100 people, there’s still plenty of awesome rewards up for grabs and we still believe we’ll make it! Link in our bio, if you can share then we’d massively appreciate it. this will be positive for our business and also for our local community and the cycling community in and around Plymouth, it'll also be created at least one, maybe two new jobs. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/rocketsandrascals
Help Rockets & Rascals build a bicycle workshop! We're building a new bike workshop space with same day turnaround repairs and rental but Covid-19 has cleaned us out, we need your help
Ever been on a massive long ride in the rain, wind, snow, had three punctures, your chain snapped and your gloves were crap only to have a beer and a pasty at the end? Well good news, the end is somewhere in sight and the ride to the finish is pretty flat and we've got the refreshments covered!
So we're now taking bookings for parties! Hooray! We have a great party deal currently in our crowdfunder, it's £500, this includes the hire of RnR from 6-11, we'll push the tables back and make the place look great, put on some good tunes, dim the lights we'll supply a buffet (veggie/vegan/GF options available) for 50 people and we'll even supply a drink on arrival. We have 10 available in the Crowdfunder, make a pledge now, party later!
Parties are from June 21st onwards (subject to Boris not changing his mind). The crowdfunder ends on March 5th at which time the deal will end. Bookings on a first come, first served basis.

Great coffee, food and bicycle culture
When we opened Plymouth's only award winning bicycle shop and cafe, Rockets & Rascals, in Plymouth's historic Barbican quarter in the Spring of 2013 it made an immediate impact on the local cycling scene.
Six years on it’s achieving what it set out to do, get people riding bikes.
The mainstay of our store is the cafe, serving up great food, cakes and of course the kind of coffee that has earned us an amazing reputation for quality. Whilst we are not a bike store these days we play an active part of the cycling community with bike hire, cycling events and a range of cycling essentials, lifestyle clothing and emergency supplies.
Through the summer we have live music events and we’re an amazing venue for a party! There’s always something happening at Rockets & Rascals, check out our events listings for details. We also run a whole bunch of fun cycling and non cycling events. Drop us a message to book your party or for more information see our website.
