A yellow cold-health alert has been issued for the South West today, this is expected to last until midday on Tuesday 5 December.

As the temperature drops, there are lots of things you can do to stay warm safely.
We have helpful advice available on our website, including guidance on safe fuel storage and the use of wood fires and portable heaters.

If you come across floodwater on the roads, please don't drive through it. Turn around and take an alternative route. Donโt take unnecessary risks.
โข Just 30cm of water is enough to float a car.
โข You donโt know whatโs under the water โ there could be hidden hazards, or it could be deeper than you thought.
โข Just an egg-cupful of water sucked into your carโs engine will lead to severe damage.

Winter is fast approaching and weโre encouraging everyone to check in on their loved ones as the weather turns colder.
We all have someone we care about who may need a little extra support if they have ill health or are less mobile.
Over the next few months, weโll be sharing things that you can do to help us keep those we love safe and reduce false alarms.
We already have lots of good advice on our website- https://orlo.uk/3k5VK
Last night was an incredible joint training session at Plympton fire station with Crownhill Fire Station blue watch and their on-call team, as well as Camels Head fire station blue watch. We simulated an RTC with multiple casualties, focusing on seamless coordination with the paramedics. A huge thanks to everyone involved, including the brave live casualties who endured the rain, making the scenario even more realistic. Kudos to our dedicated teams! ๐๐ง๏ธ๐ฅ
We want to say congratulations to Duncan Bibby, who stands fourth from the left, for accomplishing a significant milestone โ completing his initial recruit training and taking on the role of a firefighter at the Plympton fire station. ๐ฅ Fire Incident ๐ฅ
Yesterday, along with our colleagues from Crownhill Fire Station we where mobilised to a building fire between Mudge Way and Underwood Road.
On route, the thick black smoke could be seen from distance and an additional resource from Greenbank Fire Station was requested.
On arrival, crews found a garage well alight and used multiple hose reel jets to attack the fire and stop the fire spreading to the neighbouring garage and the house.
The Garage and the contents were completely destroyed by the fire. The images below have been provided by the occupant of the affected property.
For any fire safety advice, please check out our website below.

๐จ๐จ INCIDENT ๐จ๐จ
Earlier this afternoon we where alerted to a large vehicle fire up at the quarry on Lee Moor.
On arrival the large vehicle was fully engulfed in flames with thick black smoke billowing into the air.
We setup a team in breathing apparatus and attacked the vehicle with our hose reel and then had support from Yelverton Fire Station who likewise setup another team in breathing apparatus, and used a 45mm attack line.
Both teams quickly had the fire under control and had it ๏ฟผextinguished before it spread to nearby gorse bushes.
The workforce from the quarry saved the day supporting us with a water tanker for us to use to supply our deliveries.
Overall, a great team effort from all involved.
Our colleagues from Axminster fire station are undertaking an amazing challenge for an amazing course
Please show your support to our friends who challenged themselves to 'walk the service' starting from Axminster Fire Station as they start their 160 Mile adventure across Southern Devon and up into Northern Somerset!
We want to wish good luck to FF Moore, FF Bearpark, FF Shillingford & FF Goetz as they undertake this epic journey. so if you see them make sure to give them a cheer!
The crew are fundraising to support one of their own, FF Moore, who is raising funds for essential support for his son, Idris, who has Cerebral Palsy. Idris requires specialised treatment and equipment that will help him reach his full potential.
If you are in a position to do so please help by supporting them and donating via this link:

Once again thanks for all your support,

This morning we were called out to a fire caused by a toaster that caught alight.
A working smoke alarm alerted the occupant of the property to the toaster. They then managed to remove the toaster and extinguish the fire.
Below are images of the toaster where you can see the extent of the damage caused by the food catching alight and melting the plastic surround.
Luckily, due to the quick actions of the occupant, the damage was only to the toaster and the pop tarts.

This month we have been doing some joint training with Crownhill Fire Station Blue watch. Due to the dry weather and risk of a wildfire, we decided to go up on Dartmoor and do some wildfire training. SM Wonnacott was able to show us some of the new equipment we have and how we need to work as a team to deal with this type of incident. Please click on the link below regarding wildfires.

On the sixth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire, we remember the 72 people who lost their lives.
Our thoughts are with their families, friends and all those who were affected by the tragedy. ๐
On Sunday night Plympton and Crownhill were mobilised to a decking on fire in the Plympton area. When we arrived we quickly realised that the fire had spread to the house, which was well alight. The officer in charge from Plympton requested an additional 2 fire engines. Luckily all occupants of the property were free from the building. One dog was rescued by Firefighters in breathing apparatus. This is a good opportunity for us to request that you all check your fire alarms. If you need alarms in your property or if we can help you feel safer in your home with Fire safety advice tailored to you then please call us on 0800 05 02 999 or visit https://www.dsfire.gov.uk/safety/home/home-safety-visits

Over the past few days, our water bowser has been mobilised to support the fires that have been happening due to the demolition of the old gas storage tanks at Cattedown.
Interesting facts !!

๐ฅ Its diameter is a crazy 65 meters !
๐ฅ It held 6 million cubic feet of gas once full !!

To celebrate international womanโs day, we spoke to Katie who is currently our ONLY female firefighter on station.
We asked Katie a few questions.
How long have you been in the fire service ?
โI have now been a firefighter for 4 years and also supporting the cadet scheme based at Plympton for 2 years.โ
What do you enjoy about your job
โI like the fact, everyday is different and I am always learning new things. The team I work with are fantastic and I look as them as my second family. โ
What do you outside of your On Call role at Plympton ?
โI have been a teaching assistant for the last 13 years. Supporting primary school children. I really enjoy my job seeing children develop. The children also love the fact I am a firefighter and itโs always a fun topic to speak about.โ
Katie, happy international womenโs day ! โค๏ธ
