With the increase in the cost of energy prices.. there are various tricks we can all do to help reduce our bills.. a few OTP recommended tips that may help:

Insulate hot water tanks and pipes, a simple job that could save ££’s would be to fit a ‘jacket’ approved by British Standard around your hot water cylinder, this alone could reduce heat loss from the cylinder by over 75%. You can also insulate both hot and cold water pipes with quality pipe insulation wrap or strips of fibreglass taped around the pipes, by insulating the hot water pipes this raises the temperature of the water, allowing you to lower your water temperature setting to save precious energy.. it will also enable your hot water to come through more quickly.. saving water as well!

Radiators are another simple way we can save both money and energy, fitting thermostatic valves allows you to control the heating so that rooms not often used can be switched off or lowered to save money, also ensuring radiators are clear of any clothing, with nothing underneath or around the radiator, it is far more efficient to place clothing on an airer or similar near a radiator, than to place it directly onto one.

Another simple, if a little unorthodox, trick is to only drain the bath once it has cooled. Warm bath water is a natural source of heat, by emptying it before it has cooled down, you are quite literally pouring heat down the drain!

And finally, run the hot tap until the water runs hot.. don’t turn on the cold tap at the same time. This cools down water that isn’t even hot yet, meaning it then takes longer to reach your desired temperature.. using both more heat and water.
