What’s on at the RNLI College Find out more about the upcoming events and tours taking place at the RNLI College.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of celebrating 20 years of training our charity’s lifeboat crew and lifeguards to save lives at sea here at the RNLI College in Poole. Since we opened back in 2004 we have trained over 25,000 Crews and Lifeguards.

The aim of the College was to become a centre of training excellence for volunteers, an increasing number of whom were joining the RNLI without a maritime background. Today, the RNLI College is internationally recognised as a beacon of lifesaving training.

The RNLI College is at the heart of the RNLI – where our extraordinary lifesaving volunteer crew and lifeguards from around the UK and Ireland will be trained for years to come thanks to your continued support.

The Peter Beales Roses garden featuring the RNLI for our 200th Anniversary is on display at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024 has only gone and won a GOLD medal.
The RNLI teamed up with Peter Beales Roses to create the flower ‘With Courage’, which was officially unveiled at the show yesterday, flanked by a D class inshore lifeboat – the workhorse of the charity’s lifeboat fleet.

The rose, created to mark the special anniversary, was bred by Peter Beales Nursery Manager Ian Limmer, who has a personal connection with the RNLI as his grandfather served at Sheringham Lifeboat Station.

Peter Beales has very kindly gifted 250 roses to the RNLI and we are very lucky it to have 25 planted outside the RNLI College.

If you would like your own RNLI 200th 'With Courage' Rose’ these are available online from Peter Beales Roses, with 20% going towards saving lives at sea.

Come down and enjoy the beautiful sunshine & see the boats as they set off to join the parade of sail on Poole Quay shortly. ☀️

We’re proud to announce that His Majesty King Charles III will be our new Patron, succeeding Queen Elizabeth II.

Since 1824, The Royal Family has supported the RNLI’s purpose to save lives at sea.
The King has a long history with the RNLI and has made several visits to lifeboat stations and sites over the years.
His Majesty’s first ever RNLI engagement was in 1964, when, as the then Prince of Wales, His Royal Highness accompanied The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and The Princess Royal to Cowes, Isle of Wight to observe the sea trials of a new Waveney class lifeboat.

During a visit to Atlantic College in 1971, His Majesty took the helm of a B-3 inflatable lifeboat and, with two crew members, made a 35-minute trip into the Bristol Channel in rough weather.

In 2021, The King visited the RNLI College, Poole and was given a tour of our All-weather Lifeboat Centre, where our all-weather lifeboats are manufactured. His Majesty was able to inspect the progress of the Shannon class lifeboat Duke of Edinburgh being built in honour of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Last year, The King and Queen Camilla visited St Ives lifeboat station in Cornwall as part of Their Majesties’ first official visit to Cornwall following the Coronation.
